Volume 5 Chapter 10 Magic Society

Volume 5 Chapter 10 Magic Society

I was called by Kagami-san to the Anti-Demon Special Forces Seijo Branch. It seems that Kagami-san's usual workplace is also Tsukiko's workplace.

Honestly, it's painful to face Tsukiko now. It can't be helped, so I came to the Seijo Branch with Lisha and Kanami.

"I'm sorry for calling you here while you're busy."

 "No, it's totally fine."

"Please have a seat. I'll bring some tea."

We were led by Kagami-san to a room that resembled a reception room and sat on the sofa as instructed.

Despite being called the Anti-Demon Special Forces, the building itself looks like a regular office.

Fortunately, Tsukiko doesn't seem to be here, and I feel relieved.

A tired-looking man brought us tea, and Kagami-san entered the room again.

"Thank you for coming today. I assume you're busy with university?"

"No, it's okay. Is there something going on?"

It doesn't seem like I'm being scolded. I'm glad, as I was secretly worried if I had done something wrong again. Even a former Hero has things they fear.

At the same time, it's a bit awkward to look at Kagami-san's face. This person not only scolded me but also hugged me and shed tears in the end, saying, "I'm glad you're safe."

People who would say such things to me, who used to be a Hero, have been decreasing. Winning is natural. There's no one who worries about an unbreakable blade.

But it would be rude not to look at her face just because it's embarrassing. I gathered my courage and looked at Kagami-san.

"Well, there are some things I need to tell you."

Kagami-san said that clearly, clearly showing signs of fatigue. There are dark circles under her eyes that can't be hidden by makeup, and her skin is rough. Naturally, my spine straightened as I thought that I might be partly responsible for this. I'm truly sorry.

"So, tonight, Silver-san and Kanami-san, and the rest of us will be guarding the city as usual."

 "Yes, thank you as always."

"That's fine. It's our duty to protect the city."

Even so, daily patrols must be more burdensome than I imagine.

Nevertheless, the members of the Anti-Demon Special Forces do it without a single unpleasant expression. I should bring them something next time as a token of appreciation.

"By the way, we're currently short-staffed."

"I'm sorry, that's true... We had some incidents recently."

"Oh, it's not your fault, Yuusuke-kun."

 Kagami-san quickly waved her hand.

"We haven't really talked to you three about our work, have we?"

"When you say 'our,' do you mean the Anti-Demon Special Forces?"

"Yes, that's right. We usually fight against supernatural beings, such as youkai or demons. But besides that, we have various other tasks."

Listening to Kagami-san's explanation, it seems that the Anti-Demon Special Forces not only exorcise supernatural beings but also play a role in adjusting the Aether balance of the land and calming the restless spirits that sleep in various places. One of those beings we fought the other day was a demon.

Among those tasks, there seems to be another important one.

 "A magic society?"

"That's a group of magicians and onmyoji who don't belong to the Anti-Demon Special Forces."

"I see. It's not surprising that such groups exist."

Indeed, it has never happened to me, but when I think about it, it's only natural. There are routes to acquire firearms and weapons, so they can be somewhat regulated, but magic is a matter of "knowing or not knowing."

Depending on the situation, those who "realize" it will realize it. It's what's called a sixth sense, spiritual sensitivity, or similar abilities. Now, does a person who has awakened supernatural powers really want to be tied to a country? The answer is no.

When a person first awakens to magic, they feel an immense sense of power. If it were Asteris, there would be plenty of magicians who could crush their elongated nose. But on Earth, it's not that simple.

The skill to easily bypass human-made laws. Of course, there are plenty of people who refuse to be bound by the country.

But if they do whatever they want as an individual, they will be captured by the Anti-Demon Special Forces. In that case, it is natural to form a group.

"There are magic society that operate as ordinary profit organizations. So, there are plenty of useful magic as long as you don't use it incorrectly."

 "Oh, I see."

Surprisingly, Earth also has its fair share of fantasy. It seems that there is a world like a manga that I didn't know about.

"But you know, there are also plenty of people who are not like that. People with a bad nature who interpret having power as being able to do anything."

Kagami-san's words were quite venomous. It seems that she is quite troubled by those people.

Yeah, I understand. It's really annoying when criminals use magic. I've been sent to suppress Eris many times when she gets angry.

"I understand the story well. We also had a hard time dealing with such people in Asteris. I can guess that they are up to something."

"That's right, Kanami-san. Normally, they don't do anything openly, but recently they have started moving without paying attention to us."

"When you say they have started moving, do they have a purpose?"

Kagami-san suppressed a sigh and took out a small pouch. The blue bag seems to be something close to a magic tool. Similar to the nun's outfit Lisha is wearing, it exerts its effect through embroidery with threads infused with magic power.

Kagami-san opened the bag and took out a coin.
