Volume 6 Chapter 15 Special Human

Volume 6 Chapter 15 Special Human

A popular song is playing in the car. I'm pretty sure it's the theme song of a movie, but I haven't had time to go watch movies lately. Taking a break from university and isolating myself from daily life, the feeling is slowly sinking into my heart.

I am currently in a car, heading towards my destination.

The person holding the steering wheel in the driver's seat is humming along with the lyrics of the song.

 "Are you nervous?"

The driver is Yotsuji Senri. It's a bit confusing, but currently, it's not Tsuchimikado. I got excited for a moment because of the crossdressing thing, but TS genres are outside my area of expertise.

Now, I turned my gaze away from the window and answered.

"Well, yeah. There are a lot of things on my mind."

"If it's Isumi-san and the others, they'll be fine. At least until this job is done, there shouldn't be any attack."

"There's no proof. It's not just the New World (Try Order), there could also be demon attacks."

"If you say that, all I can ask is for you to believe me."

If that's possible, I won't have any trouble.

By the way, only me and Yotsuji are in the car that's speeding on the highway. Lisha and the others are all waiting at the base.

In the end, it was decided that only I would move. Apparently, Tsuchimikado received an order from the Try Order, and this operation would be based on that.

Kanami and Sharla are at the base too, and I don't think they would lose easily if they were attacked, but I'm still worried. That's what made me speak up.

"I think we could have gone with everyone."

"Didn't I explain it many times? The job that Seirin got from the Try Order was to call only you. If we go with everyone, we would look suspicious and Seirin's position would worsen. The worst scenario is that a full-scale war breaks out here"

"Can they move so fast, even though they're a huge organization?"

It's the same for countries, but organizations become harder to move as they grow bigger. A full-scale war is not something that can be executed easily, even if you want to.

Yotsuji pondered with a cute voice, saying hmm.

"The Try Order is a bit different from normal organizations. They're not a solid block. Or rather, from my estimation, their concept of cooperation is terribly thin. They even seem to interfere with each other sometimes"

 "What's that?"

I wonder if such an organization can last for a long time. In fact, it's impossible for a full-scale war to occur in that state.

Perhaps noticing my doubts, Yotsuji continued to speak.

"However, even in such a state, loyalty to the organization is genuine. That's why it's frightening. If we put all our forces into it, there's a possibility that the enemy might unintentionally unite."

"So, even without a leader, individuals could decide to go into full-scale war?"

"You're kidding, right? But it's entirely possible, and if it happens, it's over. To fight against the Try Order, individual defeats are an absolute requirement."

"If it turns into a full-scale war, it feels like the assumption is that we'll lose."

 "Indeed, you'll definitely lose."

That's quite an intriguing conversation. Although my own thoughts might be somewhat arrogant, the power of Earth's magicians is several notches below that of Asteris. It's due to the world's structure and the inescapable historical factors.

Kushina's magic was certainly a heinous creation, but it must have required considerable preparation, and her combat abilities were low. Frankly, I don't feel like I'd lose in a direct face-to-face battle.

And no matter how large the organization is, quality is more important than quantity in battle between magicians. There are exceptions like Dragarts (Dragon Claw Knights), but that is made possible by Vice's power and extensive training. It is hard to believe that such proficiency in composite spells exists on this Earth.

To be frank, I feel uncomfortable about the Try Order, but I don't feel a direct threat.

"I don't know if Yotsuji knows it, but judging by that feeling, Tsuchimikado must have been watching my battles, right?"

 "Battles with demons?"

 "Yeah."

"If that's the case, I've been watching too. It was quite a challenge to sneak a peek because you were always on the battlefield."

It's ironic coming from a turtle-like spirit. However, I was able to notice during that demon incident because Tsuchimikado's shikigami or something similar was nearby. The demon was creating a different dimension, and it was in the mountains, so it probably couldn't be seen unless you got close.

"If that's the case, you should know about the power of demons. I hate to say it, but I've been fighting against them."

Saying that, Yotsuji answered while still facing forward.

"Yeah. We think we understand your power and the demon's power correctly. But still, it's not good to have a full-scale war now."

Really? I don't mean to insult her, but that's a pretty doubtful judgment.

When I was silent, Yotsuji smiled slightly.

"You don't agree, do you? I just want you to think about it, though. You're also a human from Earth who fights demons, right?"

"Huh? Well, yeah, I guess so. But isn't my situation a bit different?"

 "You think you're special?"

 "..."

When she said that, I couldn't say anything. My face felt so hot that it seemed like fire would come out. It was like being pointed out that I had a middle school syndrome right in front of me.

No, wait, calm down. I am special, aren't I? I've never heard of anyone else who was called a hero and fought in another world.

A light laughter drowned out the song.

"Hahaha, that was a mean question. You're definitely special. I'm telling you, there's no mistake. Just like the First-rank Seirin."

 "Thanks a lot."

I haven't been humiliated like this in a long time. Damn you, girly boy...

"What I want to say is, there are a few special individuals on Earth, just like you. Seirin is one of them, and also Isumi-san. Have you ever felt that too?"

"Well... yeah. I definitely think Tsukiko has exceptional potential."

In the first place, I didn't realize that she was a magician. The precision in manipulating magic power is on par with the top three that I know of.

 But, what if...

"What if people with special abilities like Isumi-san and you have been quietly practicing the inherited principles in this world, pursuing the mysteries that are laughed at as impossible as scientific technology advances?"

The car stopped at a traffic light, and Yotsuji turned towards me with a strange expression as if giving up on something.

"That might not be someone we know anymore."

I see. I understand what she's trying to say.

Although it's hard to say without actually seeing the other person, I felt a chilling sensation crawling up my spine, with an even more eerie feeling.

In silence, the car continued to drive towards its destination with us inside.
