Volume 8 Chapter 39 Interlude - Heart Pounding! Lisha's Magical Cooking! Prepping Phase

Volume 8 Chapter 39 Interlude - Heart Pounding! Lisha's Magical Cooking! Prepping Phase

 "First, let's cut the vegetables!"

Lisha said that and took the knife, grabbing an onion.

After staring at the onion for a while, she turned to Hinata.

"Um, how much should I peel the onion skin?"

 "Huh, from there!?"

Hinata exclaimed involuntarily. Although she didn't have the image of being good at cooking, Lisha often stood in the kitchen with Kanami.

She never thought Lisha wouldn't know how to peel an onion.

Lisha looked embarrassed and said, looking down.

"Oh, um, it's not like I haven't seen it. It's just that Kanami said no knives for a while and only did prep work by hand, tearing things apart."

 "Oh, I see."

She nodded somewhat, but she couldn't quite understand.

Certainly, Kanami seems to have a somewhat overprotective or sister-like attitude towards Lisha.

However, it seemed hard to believe that she wouldn't even let her handle a knife. Hinata wondered if there was a reason for that as she pointed at the onion.

"After cutting it in half, trim both ends and peel off the brown skin."

 "I see, I understand. I'll give it a try!"

"Yeah, just be careful not to cut yourself."

 Hinata warned.

Even so, it seemed unlikely that Lisha would get injured just by cutting an onion. Lisha firmly held the onion with her cat-like hands and started cutting it with a knife.

But then, a loud thumping sound echoed, causing Hinata to jump in surprise.

"Wait, what was that sound? Weren't you just cutting it normally?"

"Oh, I'm sorry. I guess I used too much force. I'll try to be more gentle next time."

As she said that, Lisha tried to cut off the onion's stem. Once again, there was a thunderous sound.

 "Why does it keep happening?"

That sound was something Hinata only heard when her mother was furious during an argument with her father. It was a sound she didn't hear unless something hard was being cut. Yet, in this case, the object was just an onion.

Lisha shook her head in a panicked manner.

"I-I'm fine! I have Sanctuary set up on the cutting board, so it's not injured!"

"Is that the problem...or rather, huh? You're using magic on the cutting board?"

It was a while ago when Yuusuke made some incomprehensible comment about Lisha having Sanctuary in her mouth. Hinata, who had been thinking that this guy only talked about other girls, listened half-heartedly.

So this is what he meant, and now it makes sense.

By the way, she also understood why Kanami didn't give Lisha a knife.

'This girl is not good at controlling her power. She can probably make fine adjustments when touching directly, but she becomes completely confused the moment she holds a tool.'

 Oh, is that so?

Hinata responded silently to Noire Toare's sudden voice in her mind.

'It's an incredible amount of magic power, even for a human, and due to constantly flowing through her body, her body unknowingly gets strengthened. It's a common story for demons.'

Oh really? Doesn't that make daily life quite inconvenient?

'It can be inconvenient, yes. But if you've been living a normal life since childhood, you get used to it. It's the same for saints, and they must have had a very sheltered life. They didn't even use cooking utensils, let alone any tools for that matter.'

"What kind of life is that..."

 Hinata murmured unconsciously.

Hinata also comes from a relatively affluent family, but she couldn't imagine a life without using tools.

But as Noire said, most of Lisha's life was supported by her attendants.

And the result is this saint with messed up power.

Hinata gently reassured Lisha, who was feeling anxious.

"For now, let's take it easy, Lisha-chan. It's okay, even if we take it slowly, we can still get things done."

"Y-Yes, you're right. Thank you. I'll be gentle."

As Lisha carefully and skillfully cut the remaining ingredients and peeled them, it took nearly three minutes to process a single onion.

After what felt like an eternity, with thoughts of preparing a full course meal, the initial preparations were finally complete.

"Now all that's left is to sauté and simmer."

"Yes, I will follow Kanami-san's recipe."

At this point, even if one struggled with handling kitchen tools, it wouldn't be a problem. As long as the heat and proportions were not mistaken, a delicious curry should be the end result.

Hinata let out a sigh of relief, and Lisha's face brightened as she spoke.

"This time, I discussed various ideas with Kanami-san and made some modifications to the recipe, aiming to create a flavor that Yuusuke-san would enjoy."

 "Lisha-chan..."

Seeing Lisha's overly joyful expression, Hinata faintly smiled.

Hinata couldn't quite grasp the true nature of the feelings Lisha had for Yuusuke. Whether it was friendship, affection, or love, Hinata didn't know for certain.

'Oh, so this is the taste that Yuusuke likes?'

The love beast that was silently watching just now showed its fangs.
