Volume 1 Chapter 2 Self-introduction Is Crucial On The Day Of The Entrance Ceremony

Volume 1 Chapter 2 Self-Introduction Is Crucial On The Day Of The Entrance Ceremony

Summary of the previous chapter: The protagonist, a cosplay-themed adult entertainment store employee (image club/cosplay brothel), finds themselves transported back to before high school due to a fatal accident caused by sleep deprivation.

And so, after one night's sleep, it's the day of the high school entrance ceremony.

When I woke up in the morning, I took a quick shower just in case, looked in the mirror, styled my hair with a dryer, brushed my teeth, and used medicated mouthwash to make sure my breath was fresh.

If I do various things, maybe my acne will also get better... probably.

I think this will give off a sense of cleanliness.

Then, I cut my nails short, filed them, tidied up my appearance, had breakfast, and washed the dishes like yesterday.

I must maintain the image of a fresh and clean new student.

"Are you ready? If you are, let's go."

My mother said with a smile.

 "Yeah, I'm fine. Let's go."

I headed to high school with my mother.

As soon as we entered the school gate, there was a large cherry blossom tree planted on the side, and seeing the cherry blossoms in full bloom fluttering down gave a real sense of it being the entrance ceremony.

"Having cherry blossoms flutter down during the entrance ceremony feels nice, doesn't it?"

I said, and my mother nodded.

"Yes, it does. Recently, it's been common for the cherry blossoms to fall before the entrance ceremony, so I think it's good."

So, I checked which class I belonged to on the bulletin board in front of the entrance.

 I was in 1st year, class 1.

It's probably supposed to be the same as "before," but I don't really remember.

Also, this high school was supposed to be a relatively lenient one in terms of school rules.

Even though I've experienced high school life once, living a busy life as an adult, I tend to forget most of what it was like when I was a student.

After parting ways with my mother as she headed to the parents' explanation meeting, I entered the classroom for 1st year, class 1, and there were already a few students there.

However, during junior high school, there were friends from the same elementary school, but in high school, there aren't any, so there is a subtle tension in the classroom.

I would like to initiate a conversation if possible, but if I can't talk well, it would be awkward, and what should I do? It's that kind of feeling.

At times like these, it's best to play it safe with a smile and a greeting.

 "Good morning, everyone."

Well, there was no response to my greeting, but there were people who looked at me, and I'd like to think that I didn't leave a bad impression.

A smile and a greeting are lubricants for human relationships, and since high school is different from before with many familiar faces, it should be easy to change the image.

I pulled the chair with my name tag on it and sat down.

Then, I took out materials and stationery from my bag for confirmation.

At that moment, the girl in the adjacent seat spoke to me.

"Ah, nice to meet you. I'm Saikachi Eri. It's written as 'Saikachi' with the character for 'plum blossom' in the west."

"Wow, that's a rare last name. I'm Hata Akihiro. My last name is the same as the artist Hatabo. Nice to meet you, Saikachi-san."

"Yes, it's good to have someone nearby who is easy to talk to."

"I'm glad you approached me. When I approach girls, it might seem like I have some ulterior motive."

 "If it's Hata-kun, it's okay."

It's still a bit difficult to approach someone you've just met, but if you have a friendly atmosphere, a straightforward attitude, a smile, and a safe greeting, it somehow feels like it's okay to talk.

However, people form about 80% of their impression based on the first meeting, and changing that is not easy, so it's not a loss to at least smile and greet.

Until the homeroom teacher arrives, I was talking about trivial things with Saikachi-san, but when the time came, the homeroom teacher entered, and a short homeroom of about 10 minutes was held before the entrance ceremony.

Our homeroom teacher is a middle-aged man in charge of mathematics.

At this point, it's just an explanation about the entrance ceremony. Once that's done, our homeroom teacher guides the students to the venue where the entrance ceremony will be held, so we follow along.

The vice-principal's opening address is declared, and the entrance ceremony begins.

First, the new students enter, and the faculty, guests, and parents applaud to welcome us.

Once that's over, with the cue from the host during the national anthem, everyone stands up and sings the national anthem.

Next, the principal makes a declaration allowing the new students to enroll. With this declaration, the enrollment is confirmed, and we officially become "new students."

Following this, the principal extends congratulations to the new students. Speeches are given by two guest speakers, such as the PTA chairman, a representative of the parents, a city council member, or a politician. Introductions of the guests and the sharing of congratulatory messages are presented.

Then, a representative of the new students accepts the congratulatory messages, expresses gratitude, and shares their aspirations.

Well, it's pretty much the same flow at most schools, but it's quite boring.

Finally, the new students exit, bid farewell with applause, and the entrance ceremony ends smoothly.

After the entrance ceremony, we returned to our respective classrooms and had a long homeroom session.

First, our homeroom teacher introduced themselves.

"Well then, I will be the homeroom teacher for this class for the next year. My name is Akiyama Naoto. I will also be teaching math, so please rely on me. Now, please submit any necessary documents. After that, we will proceed with self-introductions in order of attendance number."

And so, each student began their self-introductions.

Well, it seems like some of the new students are feeling nervous and having trouble expressing themselves.

And then, it was my turn.

I walked up to the teacher's desk, took a deep breath, looked around the class, lifted my head, straightened my chest, put on a smile, and started my self-introduction in a loud and slightly slow voice.

If you get nervous, mumble, speak softly, or avoid eye contact, it gives the impression that you're difficult to approach. And if you appear too timid, you might even become a target for bullying, so it's important to avoid that.

On the contrary, by staying composed and standing tall in moments like this, you appear confident and won't be underestimated.

"Nice to meet you, everyone. My name is Hata Akihiro. I enjoy reading a wide range of literature, from manga and light novels to philosophy books. I would be happy if I could find people with similar hobbies. Nice to meet you all."

I want to break free from being a loner otaku, but that doesn't mean I'm going to force myself to make a lot of friends.

It's enough if I find people who share my hobbies and interests.

Well, in that sense, it was really helpful when the girl sitting next to me started a conversation.

Approaching someone of the opposite sex without a specific reason might be misunderstood as having ulterior motives.

Figuring out how to maintain the right distance and approach people is simple in theory but actually quite difficult.
