Chapter 47 The Disappointing Hero Can't Meet

In the Metropolitan Police Department, there is an organization called the "Special Crime Countermeasures Bureau," commonly known as "SpecOps," directly under the jurisdiction of the Police Commissioner, distinguished from other divisions by being an independent "bureau."

The members include Bureau Chief Shibuya Tamotsu, Section Chief Nada Kyouko, and Bureau Officer Yoda Kaisei.

The scarcity of members is due to the difficulty in acquiring essential skills during recruitment. Only those who have obtained extraordinary abilities, known as "Skills," beyond human knowledge in another world are allowed to join.

Their work is generally leisurely because the number of occurrences of "special crimes" they need to deal with is extremely low. Special crimes involve incidents that regular laws and police officers cannot handle, typically caused by individuals possessing "Skills" or "otherworldly items."

Most of their work involves identifying and investigating individuals suspected of bringing back skills and items from another world, known as "returnees." They also enforce the law, and in some cases, scout for the bureau.

"Well, it's probably just a rumor, right?"

As Yoda looked through the information about Higashimura Tadayuki, they asked Nada.

Nada gave Yoda a disdainful look in response to their question.

"I thought the same about you back then."

"Well, it might be true, though."

Incidents of Japanese people being abducted by higher beings or locals in another world, commonly referred to as "isekai summoning," have various theories about their frequency. The actual number is unknown.

The bureau has no data on how many people are summoned, how many of them die, whether summoners achieve their requests or find a way back on their own, or how many choose to stay in the foreign world.

As a result, the bureau's work inevitably becomes somewhat haphazard.

"Well, Yanashima-san is a capable officer, and he knows martial arts. It's worth checking. Nada-kun, take Yoda-kun with you and go confirm it."

Two desks away, Director Shibuya oversees the conversation, issuing instructions.

 "Uh? Just me alone..."

"Listen, if Higashimura is the 'achiever' and is aggressive, how will you handle it? As a 'dropout,' you won't stand a chance."

"Well, there aren't many 'achievers' anyway."

"There are two right here, me and the director."

"No, you two are monsters. People like that are rare."

There are two types of returnees.

 'Achievers' and 'Dropouts.'

Achievers are those who have returned after accomplishing the defeat of local high-level entities or fulfilling requests from locals—usually beings with outstanding combat abilities in that world.

Dropouts are those who have returned by means other than completing a request.

Currently, in the Special Unit, Director Shibuya and Nada are achievers, and Yuda is a dropout.

Achievers, having completed challenging missions in another world, often become entities beyond human understanding in terms of combat abilities.

On the other hand, dropouts, depending on when they return, exhibit significant variations in combat abilities.

"No way, with a ratio of two achievers and one dropout in this department. It's possible, right?"

"But even if we add other Thomas's, there are only two achievers, right?"

"Imagine the worst, it's common sense in this world and here."

Nada held Higashimura's document in hand.

From the attached photos, it doesn't feel that threatening.

 But, if only──.

"It'd be more fun if this person was an achiever and a criminal, huh?"

 "Hey, Nada-kun..."

Shibuya groaned with half an eye at the insensitive words.

"But, you see, all the other Thomas's we've 'processed' so far, they're all unresponsive. My skills might get rusty, you know?"

"You know, police officers who are happy about criminals are a problem, right?"

 "Just kidding, just kidding."

 "Seriously..."

"Anyway... I'm looking forward to meeting him."

* * *

 [I can't meet you!]

[I can't meet you at all!]

After returning to Tokyo, I quickly decided to ditch my virginity and registered on a dating site.

Subscribed to a monthly payment of nearly 4000 yen, but for the past month, no encounters have occurred.

However! Finally! Exchanged contact information, including the ID of the messaging app! Even though today was supposed to be a meeting!

 I got stood up!

I've been sending messages several times since earlier, but not even a read receipt!

 Seriously, what the heck.

Just to be sure, let me send it again.

[Hana-chan? I've been waiting at the meeting place for two hours. Did something happen, like an accident? Are you okay?]

Hmm, even I have to admit it's a considerate message. Oh.

 Read receipt just appeared!

After a while, a reply came.

[Got a bit troublesome, so not going today.]

 Huh?

[No, don't say that. I'm already at the meeting place, so let's at least meet?]

[I said I'm not going. Are you a virgin? You're too desperate, it's creepy.]

 Whaaat!?

You! Breaking the promise! What's with that attitude!

 [Personal information disclosure]!

[Hey, hey, Hana-chan, or should I say Tanaka Sadako, don't you know how to apologize? Should I teach you? It's the apartment in Hatsudai, Room 501, right? And you said you're 19, but you're actually 26, that's a bit too much of a lie. And about being chubby, we call people like you "fat." Can't you use Japanese properly? Should I go to the apartment right now?]

After a while, there was a reply from Hana-chan, aka Sadako.

[If you come, I'll call the police.]

[Yeah, go ahead, call as many as you want. I was thinking of forgiving you with just one proper apology, but if you say that, then forget it. See you later.]

 [Um, I'm sorry.]

[Hey, can't a pig like you even apologize properly? Are you really 26? Apologize more sincerely.]

[I broke the promise, I'm really sorry. Please forgive me.]

[Hey, I don't want to waste any more time on a pig like you, so I'll let you off the hook. You're only getting attention because you're on a dating app. Understand that in normal circumstances, it would be a hard pass, got it? In reality, no one would give you the time of day. Just like your name, Sadako, showing up at the meeting place is a bit of a horror story for guys! Keep squealing away in the pigsty without ever being shipped out, you trash!]

Phew, that should be enough. I've said what I wanted to say, got the 'seen' notification, so now it's block and move on.

But seriously, 'I'll call the police'? Do you think I, the hero of this otherworld, would be scared of the police? I'll take them on any day!

 Wahahaha!

Hello, we have a new project about someone who has returned from an isekai. The main character is a hero who has defeated the Demon Lord. However, for some reason, the human-demon war has resumed and will take place in the MC's original world. The MC, unaware of this, meets a Saint from that world and asks them to join the war. But what does the MC say? They refuse. Is it because their love was rejected by the princess when they adventured together in the past or are they simply fed up? And are the MC will join later?
