Volume 1 Chapter 72 Lately, I've Been Thinking That I Should Start Studying Properly And Fumi-Chan Made It Easy For Me To Understand. It Was A Relief

The study session at the library with Nakagaito went well.

She didn't seem very confident about studying, but there shouldn't be any issues for now.

And it would be good for her to believe in herself a little more though. Maybe she hasn't received much praise before.

For example, when you get 90 points on a test, being scolded by your parents for not getting 100 points is different from being praised for doing well with 90 points.

By the way, the midterm exams are from Tuesday, May 14th to Friday, May 17th.

The week after Golden Week, which is the week before the exams, we won't have any club activities because it's a preparation period.

The results will be announced the following week, and if you score below half of the average, it's considered failing. If you fail, you'll have to attend remedial classes on Saturday, May 25th.

Based on past trends, it seems that failing often happens when you have around 30 points.

Of course, I'm telling Nakagaito and Shinonome-san to aim for scores above 60 in all subjects, as I want to avoid scoring below that myself.

Moreover, high school students often get called names based on how well they do in the first part of the school year. This decides how people treat them. The word 'labeling' means giving them a name that shows if they are good at something or not, depending on how well they can study.

Since a student's main job is studying, I think this is something that has to happen. Not only do others, like teachers and classmates, give them labels, but it also affects how they see themselves. It can make them think, 'I can handle high school studies because I understand them,' or 'High school studies are hard, and I'm not sure if I can keep up, what should I do?' It's also true that when someone has a hard time with their studies and can't understand them, it's tough to move forward.

Also, people have habits they do regularly, and they usually stick to promises they make to others. There are rules called the law of consistency and the principle of consistency. This means that when someone gets labeled as good or not good at something, it's hard to change from what they think about themselves.

It's really important to keep three specific things the same in the law of consistency.

First is keeping the same attitude.

This means having the same attitude towards others, especially those in lower positions. The attitude towards people who are weaker or closer has more freedom. The attitude in such situations shows the person's true attitude, and their true nature is more likely to show.

Next is keeping the same attitude in normal and difficult situations.

Even if someone is reliable in normal situations, their true nature shows when they get upset or try to avoid responsibility in difficult situations, or when they act without thinking about their convenience.

In difficult situations, showing one's true nature involves being able to think from the other person's point of view and respond calmly. Being able to consider things from the other person's perspective and respond calmly in difficult situations can gain a lot of trust.

It's also important to keep the same words and actions.

This means keeping promises and not lying, even in small matters.

 These things are really important.

However, if the labeled evaluation doesn't match one's true abilities too much, it can cause suffering. So, it's also important to have a moderate level of confidence in oneself and receive evaluations that don't require excessive effort.

In high school, a standard deviation of 61 corresponds to about 15%. For example, in a class of 100 students, someone in the top 15 academically falls into this range, which is considered quite high.

Now, Fumi-chan's standard deviation of 73 or higher is less than 2% of the total. In a class of 100, only the top 1 or 2 students could reach this level. Her intelligence is way beyond mine.

Anyway, it's Wednesday. I went to work at the patisserie, helped with opening preparations, and handed over to Kashiyama-san. Kashiyama-san seems quite cheerful lately.

"Kashiyama-san, you seem really happy these days."

When I said that, Kashiyama-san replied with a big smile.

"Yeah, that's true. I've made some friends of the same gender that I get along with, and we can talk about our hobbies even when we're working together. Plus, I'll be participating in an event this weekend."

Well, it's easy to imagine that it's something that makes her very happy... so I decided to ask.

"Are you doing well with your midterms?"

"Oh, yeah, I'm doing fine. I study properly, you know."

She seems a little unsure, but... well, based on what she's saying, it seems like she's doing well.

"Well, if that's the case, then it's good."

With that said, when I finished work and returned home, Fumi-chan was waiting for me with a smile.

 "Welcome back."

"Oh, yeah. Did you wait for me to come back?"

"Yeah, because you didn't come back yesterday."

 "Oh, yeah, sorry about that."

I said that and asked what I was thinking.

"Hey, Fumi-chan. Can you teach me during Golden Week if you're okay with it?"

When I said that, Fumi-chan looked surprised.

"Huh? Yeah, sure, I'm okay with it."

 "Why are you so surprised?"

"Well, you've been teaching other kids, right?"

"Yeah... but even so, I'm not really sure if I can do it myself."

"I see... Okay, then leave it to me."

 "I'm relying on you."

The lunch that was made for me had dishes like 'Simmered Hijiki and Abura-age,' 'Miso-stewed Mackerel,' 'Tofu and Wakame Miso Soup,' and '16-grain rice,' all very Japanese-style.

 "Today's menu is very Japanese."

"Welll, Japanese food has many ingredients that are good for memory."

"Indeed, things like bluefish and soy products are definitely good for that."

 "That's right."

"Yeah, it's not just delicious but also good for the brain, it's the best!"

 "Exactly!"

After that, I took Fumi-chan to my room for studying.

"It's a bit small, but please come in."

 I said, leading Fumi-chan inside.

"Thanks! It feels cozy and neat."

"Yeah, it's good to have a lived-in feel."

We started studying, and Fumi-chan began explaining something.

"Do you know that high school teachers don't randomly pick midterm questions?"

 She asked.

 "Huh? What do you mean?"

"Midterm and final exams cover essential textbook content. They want to see if students understand the material."

"Oh, so the key points are important."

"Exactly. If you grasp those key points, you can do well in assessments. The questions are likely similar to university and secondary exams, so memorizing them is useful."

"Can we say that regular high school exams are basically practice for university entrance exams?"

"Yes. But, many high school students don't even realize that, so just knowing whether they know it or not makes a big difference."

 "Well, that's true."

Basically, I think the main purpose of university entrance exams is to evaluate how well students can understand and remember what is necessary.

Well, whether it works well or not is a different matter.

"Anyway, it's important to first master math, Japanese, and English, and then apply that knowledge to subjects like physics. As for the problems that might come up in the mid-term exams..."

Fumi-chan selected sections from the textbook I'm using that seem suitable as exam questions.

"I think you'll be fine if you understand this part."

"Mm, thank you. With this, I think I'll be able to prepare for the mid-term exams."

"Hehe, I'm glad I could help."

Being able to explain things clearly to others and teach them efficiently, even if they are smart, is a separate skill. But it seems that Fumi-chan is perfect in that aspect as well.

Moreover, her appearance and personality are really good, and I think she might become popular because of that.

So... if I keep depending on her like this, I feel like she might get tired of me just like she did to Haga.

No, if she became my childhood friend as a result of my wish to the Firebird for her to be happy, then I should try to be the man worthy of her and make her happy... But honestly, our basic qualities are just too different, and it's a bit difficult, to be honest.

Even though I tell Nakagaito to have more confidence, I think it's a sad thing.

Hello, we have other project about someone who has returned from an isekai. The main character is a hero who has defeated the Demon Lord. However, for some reason, the human-demon war has resumed and will take place in the MC's original world. The MC, unaware of this, meets a Saint from that world and asks them to join the war. But what does the MC say? They refuse. Is it because their love was rejected by the princess when they adventured together in the past or are they simply fed up? And are the MC will join later? You can find out by clicking on the following => [Link]
