Volume 2 Chapter 33 The Preparations For Fumi-Chan's Cultural Festival Seem To Be Going Well, Which Is Good
Today is Sunday, and Fumi-chan and I planned to go shopping together.
When I woke up and looked at the clock, it was 7 in the morning.
I opened the curtains and saw that it was raining outside.
Well, it's probably already the rainy season, so there's nothing I can do about it. But since it's raining, I'll have to walk to the station with an umbrella instead of riding my bike, so it might take a bit longer.
Even though I woke up later than usual on a weekday, if I have breakfast and get ready to go at a relaxed pace, it should still be a good time, right?

[I wanted to confirm the meeting time and place for our shopping today. Can I come to pick you up at your house at 9 in the morning?]
[Yeah, that's fine with me. I don't have much time left for preparations, so see you later.]

Yeah, it seems like two hours isn't enough time for girls to get ready. I got changed and went downstairs to say hello to my mother.
"Good morning, Mom."
"Oh, good morning. I was thinking of waking you up if you overslept, but it looks like you got up on time."
"Well, I went to bed early yesterday."
"That's good. Wash your face now. I'll make breakfast since you're up."
"Okay."
I brushed my teeth, washed my face, and fixed my hair before going back to the living room. On the table, there were fried eggs, salad, and milk, and a nice smell of toasted bread was coming from the toaster.
"I made a light breakfast so you can eat slowly at lunchtime."
"You don't have to be so thoughtful."
"Our neighbor Fumi-chan said, 'Today, Atchan will pick me up around 9 am. Wake me him at 6. And since it's embarrassing to have a full stomach, a light breakfast is enough.' That's what she told me."
"Oh, maybe Fumi-chan's mom told everything to my parents, so I guess Fumi-chan knows everything about me too, huh?"
"Well, she lives next door, so maybe that's how she found out."
It's kind of scary how moms share information. It feels like everyone knows everything about what I do with Fumi-chan and Yayoi-chan. Oh well.
"Well, at least mom seems much better now than she was in April."
My mom agreed with what I said.
"Yeah, I feel a lot better now, especially since I lost some weight."
"That's great."
"And my skin looks much better now too."
"Yeah, I noticed that. I guess diet and exercise really make a difference."
"That's true."
Because of high sugar levels before, cells that weren't working well might have improved.
While we talked about these things, I finished eating and took the dishes to the sink.
"After this, your mom will wash it, so get ready to go out."
"Okay."
With that, I go back to my room.
But I wonder why it's so hard to choose what to wear when shopping for clothes.
Still, I can understand the feeling of not being sure what to wear when you have a good amount of clothes.
Today, it's raining lightly and the temperature is a bit low, but it's likely to get warmer at night, so maybe I should wear a thin long-sleeved shirt and a cardigan just in case.
After eating breakfast and thinking about what to wear, it's already 9 o'clock.
"Well, I'm leaving."
I tell my mom that I'm going out.
"Yes, be careful."
"By the way, is Dad still sleeping today?"
"Since the weather is bad today, Dad is sleeping in."
"Well, everyone needs a day off to sleep in once in a while."
"That's true."
Then, I grab an umbrella and go to the neighbor's entrance, pressing the intercom.

"Hello, Atchan, please wait a bit longer."

After standing at the entrance for a bit, the door opened, and Fumi-chan came out.
"Sorry. I couldn't decide what to wear."
"Well, it's raining today, and the ground seems slippery. Also, it's a bit cold in the morning, so I get why you had trouble picking an outfit."
Fumi-chan is wearing a cardigan and pants, just like me, and sneakers on her feet.
We opened our umbrellas and started walking to the station.
"Hey, I'm happy you get how hard it is for Atchan to choose clothes. When I mentioned being concerned about that, I was actually a bit upset, you know? It's a special date, and I really wanted to go out in a cuter outfit."
"Yeah, but if you slip and get hurt on those tiled floors, it would be a problem. Besides, Fumi-chan is cute, so I think you look cute even in active clothes."
When I said that, Fumi-chan smiled playfully.
As we walked together, Fumi-chan suddenly brought up a new topic.
"Hey, Atchan, do you love your mom a lot?"
"Huh? Do you think so? I just think it's normal."
"Normal? Is it normal to suggest buying a swimsuit for your mom before your cute childhood friend and then swimming together?"
"Well, um, I guess if Mom starts taking care of her diabetes by changing her diet and doing some exercise, and she becomes slim and beautiful, then maybe it could happen, right?"

"Well, if that's the case, then it's not so bad. Maybe it's just how things are for first-year high school students. So, first, let's go see some cool vintage clothes at Funabashi's Treasure Factory, then look at some miscellaneous goods at Lalaport, and maybe even check out some swimsuits?"

So, when we arrived at Magome-sawa Station, we took the train to Funabashi station.
After getting off at the last stop, we headed to Treasure Factory.

I said that, and Fumi-chan responded.

After that, we went to the bus stop for Lalaport and waited for the bus to Lalaport.

"Everyone is much more enthusiastic than I thought, and we're making progress with the preparations while having fun. Fumi-chan said that, but I couldn't help but tilt my head in confusion.
Fumi-chan shrugged her shoulders and then explained to me.

Women's fashion has trends that come and go, but there are many aspects that men just can't understand.
Should I choose a bikini? Or is a one-piece swimsuit cuter? Fumi-chan is seriously choosing a swimsuit, and well, she really is a cute girl after all.
"Hey, which one do you think is better?"
Fumi-chan brought an ivory-colored one-shoulder type bikini swimsuit and a gingham check one-piece swimsuit with an off-shoulder type.
"I think the gingham one-piece swimsuit is cuter."
"Hmm, well, I think this old-fashioned style is quite cute, so let's choose this for now."
Huh? I feel like I'm not getting praised for saying it's cute, though.
I've heard that recently, old trends are coming back and becoming new again. Well, anyway, it seems like Fumi-chan enjoyed shopping, and I feel like I learned something too.
It would have been nicer if the weather was good, though.
