Volume 2 Chapter 77 It Looks Like Shibata-San's Birthday Party Is Going To Be At Kokonoe-San's Place, And They're Planning To Have It Garden Tea Party Style
Now, I was working at the patisserie, and I was surprised that Kokonoe-san came the first time the store opened not just because she came by so early, but also because it turns out Kokonoe-san and Shibata-san have become good friends.
However, it was way busier than I expected, especially during the peak hours from morning till just after lunch. And since I worked a full shift from 7 AM to 4 PM, I didn't really get a chance to chat much about the birthday party plans Kokonoe-san suggested for Shibata-san.
Anyway, the shop's sales are booming, and we're short on staff, which I bet is a good problem for the owner, Ikurumi-san. And I'm not complaining—if my paycheck increase.
Anyway, Kokonoe-san from our class came up with this idea, and I can meet with Shibata-san and Saikachi-san on Monday to talk about it, but it's kind of hard to get everyone together to discuss things since Kashiyama-san is in a different grade, even though we go to the same school.
So, I'm thinking it might be better to chat about it in our social media group first.
I decided to reach out to Kokonoe-san first through social media.
'Good evening, Kokonoe-san. Thanks for coming to the shop today and for suggesting the birthday party for Shibata-san.'
After I saw that my message was read, it took a little while, but I got a reply back.
'Good evening, Hata-kun. Oh, it's nothingu, I just go to that shopu because their sweetsu are super tasty. Plus, I know the peopleu who worku there, so it's easy for me to stop by, desu.'
Maybe it's because she's still getting used to typing in Japanese, but it takes her a while to reply.
'I see, if it's a hassle to type messages, don't worry about it, but I kind of want to organize some stuff about Shibata-san's birthday party in a message group. Is that okay?'
'Of course, that's fineu.'
'Then I'll create the group and invite the members.'
'I got itt.'
Hmm, was that last 't' a typo?
Anyway, let's invite other people to the party.
Obviously, Kashiyama-san will join. And maybe we should check if Kokonoe-san, who teamed up with Shibata-san in the girls' doubles and was at the celebration party, wants to join Shibata-san's birthday party too.
So, let's start by sending a message to Saikachi-san to confirm.
'Saikachi-san, good evening!'
After I sent a message, it took a little while, but I got a reply back.
'Yeah, good evening!'
'Today was my day to work part-time, and Kokonoe-san came my part-time job first thing in the morning and had a meal. It seems like she really liked the sweets from the patisserie.'
'Oh, I see, that's what happened.'
'Originally, it was during the sports festival when Kokonoe-san and Saikachi-san's girls' tennis pair won, and we celebrated with Shibata-san who was cheering for them. It turns out, September 7th is Shibata-san's birthday, so we decided to throw a birthday party. And since you celebrated the tennis victory with us, how about joining?'
'Got it. Then, please count me in too!'
'Okay. So, I'm inviting everyone to the birthday party group, so please join in!'
So, I made a group and invited Kokonoe-san, Shibata-san, Kashiyama-san, and Saikachi-san.
Akihiro:
'Hey, everyone, did you all join in? By the way, this icon is Hata Akihiro.'
[Eri joined]
Eri:
'Good evening, everyone. I'm Saikachi Eri. Nice to meet you all.'
[Saya joined]
Saya:
'Good evening, I'm Kashiyama Saya. Since we're in different grades, we might not talk much usually, but let's get along!'
[Mayuri joined]
Mayuri:
'Good evening, I'm Shibata Mayuri. Thank you, everyone.'
[Lotti joined]
Lottie:
'Good evening, I'm Kokonoe-san Arianna Charlotte. Nice to meetu you all!'
Akihiro:
'Hey, looks like everyone we invited is here. So, what should we do for Shibata-san's birthday party? Just so you know, we had Hirose-kun's birthday party in a karaoke party room, and Shinonome-san's was at her house.'
Saya:
'Ah, I'm planning to spend a lot during summer break, so I'd rather not do anything too pricey.'
Mayuri:
'Yeah, I feel the same. Actually, I'm kinda on a budget too.'
Lottie:
'How about a low-costo house paatii then? We could have a garden paatii on my home's tiled deck.'
Akihiro:
'Wow, you have a tiled deck at your place, Kokonoe-san? Then, we could totally do a barbecue or a tea party at your house!'
Lottie:
'Yep, I can totally do that. Since it's still pretty warmu in September, how about we chill under a sun umbrella and munch on some cool cakesu and sweetsu? Sounds good, right?'
Mayuri:
'Does Kokonoe-san's house have one of those fancy three-tier cake stands, and do you guys have tea parties there?'
Lottie:
'Absolutely, we can do that. You know, even though peopuru in Japan mightu thinku Americans are all about coffee, we actually drinku a rotto of tea too.'
Akihiro:
'Oh yeah, speaking of America, wasn't there that Boston Tea Party thing? And back in the Meiji era, didn't Japan export more tea leaves to America than to England?'
Mayuri:
'That sounds amazing. Please, I'd love to do that.'
Saya:
'It really does sound wonderful. It's like we could be stepping right into one of those tea parties you read about in novels.'
Eri:
'It's really awesome, isn't it? Opportunities like this don't come around very often.'
So, even though there are lots of little details to figure out, it looks like Shibata-san's birthday party is going to be a garden tea party at Kokonoe-san's house.
