Volume 12 Chapter 6 Mirabell's Aim
"By the way, is Mirabell going to continue as an adventurer?"
I tried to change the subject forcefully.
"Huh?"
"Well, you used to be an assassin, right? Are you thinking of going back to your old job?"
Well, suggesting going back to being an assassin is a bit dangerous.
"...I'm done with assassination."
"Huh?"
"I don't feel that way anymore."
Mirabell let out a small sigh.
There was a hint of sadness in her face.
I've never seen her make such a face before.
"Was it a change of heart?"
"A little."
"Really?"
"After meeting Rain, meeting Lily, and traveling and completing quests together..."
Mirabell took a breath there.
She looked into the space with somewhat lonely eyes.
"I see..."
Well, I do consider Mirabell a friend, so I don't want her to get involved in assassination.
Of course, her past as an assassin won't just disappear.
But--
Maybe it meant that even as an assassin, she was starting to feel warm emotions like a normal girl her age.
"Being an assassin doesn't pay off. It's too dark. I want to earn big bucks in a more wholesome environment."
"Oh, come on, it's all about the money."
What was the point of her earlier preamble?
"Of course. I'm always practical. There's no room for sentimentality. The reward is everything."
Mirabell insisted.
Well, maybe that's just how she is.
"Nom nom... delicious"
Furthermore, Mirabell casually started eating her sandwich.
She's so carefree...
I looked at Mirabell with a wry smile.
"Besides... it's fun with Rain... I want to, you know, be together more..."
"Huh?"
"Just talking to myself."
"Did you say something about being together?"
"No prying into personal matters."
Mirabell turned away with a huff.
What was that final attitude all about, I wonder...?
