Volume 4 Chapter 2 She Looks Cute, But...
--After finishing up some post-incident tasks, we safely returned to Kyunei's clinic.
"I'm Aina. I'm new here, but I'll do my best not to cause trouble for senpais."
Aina bows politely to Kyunei and Mikage. She's dressed similarly to when I encountered her in the city before, wearing a cloak, but this time with a longer robe and a staff with a gem at the tip by her side.
She really looks like a magician.
"We welcome you, Aina-sama. It might be a bit cramped to invite a princess, though."
"Thank you, Kyunei-san. Also, I'm no longer a princess. I'd be happy if you treated me as such from now on."
"Understood, Aina-chan."
"Hehe, calling me '-chan' is something my mother used to do when I was young. It's a bit refreshing."
Kyunei and Aina quickly started chatting away. Even though it might seem a bit strange to say, conversations between a beauty and a cute girl can really be picturesque.
"Are they unusually close?"
As I watched Kyunei and the others chatting happily, I quietly spoke to Mikage.
"Well, we had plenty of time to talk amongst ourselves while Yukina-sama was still asleep in the royal palace. Aina-sama was a bit nervous at first, but she seemed to loosen up completely as she talked with Kyunei."
"Among them, Kyunei seems to have the best social skills."
Being a pr**titute isn't just about selling your body; you also have to entertain the client in various ways. Of course, that includes conversation. And Kyunei has a caring personality, which helps.
"Hey, you address Aina as 'sama,' huh?"
"Well, it's just my nature. And of course, I have her permission to do so."
She's still serious as usual.
"Please take care of me, Mikage-san."
After finishing her conversation with Kyunei, Aina turned to Mikage.
"Oh, yes, I'm ready to protect you with all my might."
Mikage replied briskly and bowed. Aina seemed a little puzzled and smiled awkwardly at her behavior.
'Even though she's given up her claim to the throne, Aina still has royal blood. For a martial artist, protecting the royal family is the greatest honor. It's natural to be enthusiastic.'
Upon closer look, I noticed that Mikage's fox ears and tail were tensed with nerves. Just as Gram had said.
For now, I decided to pet her fox ears gently.
"Eep!? Y-Yukina-sama?"
Mikage suddenly felt someone stroking her ears and turned red. Meanwhile, I gently touched her fox ears.
"It's good to protect, but if you're so tense from the start, you'll get tired quickly. Let's take it easy a bit more, okay?"
"Um... okay."
Perhaps realizing a bit, Mikage's tense atmosphere softened.
"Yukina-kun is really something. Even when I try to talk to Mikage, it doesn't have much effect."
"Well, it might not work right away, but gradually getting used to it should be fine."
Responding to Kyunei, I removed my hand from Mikage's head.
"Oh... um..."
"Hmm?"
Mikage, still blushing, let out a voice. Her lingering gaze seemed reluctant, directed towards my hand that had been rubbing her ears.
"Oh, no... it's nothing."
It seemed like Mikage noticed what I was looking at and quickly looked away.
Maybe she wanted me to pet her more?
"Look, Aina-chan. Isn't she cute? She's usually serious, but when the moment calls for it, she shows this side, which makes her irresistible because of the contrast."
"Yes, I understand. I totally understand. I couldn't have imagined this from the way she was when we first met. She's definitely cute."
"Huh?! Hey, what are you two talking about?"
Mikage noticed Kyunei and Aina blushing and panicked again.
'It seems like you can build a harmonious harem relationship, partner.'
Don't call it a harem. But it's good to see that all three of them get along. I wasn't too worried, but seeing them exchange words so comfortably put my mind at ease.
