Volume 6 Chapter 21 Why We Don't Ask Why It's A Hidden Place

In the countryside, once the sun sets below the horizon, everyone goes home, eats dinner, and then goes to bed. This is basically the same in the royal capital. The lights of magic tools are more prevalent than oil or candles, so the nights are quite bright, but people still return to their respective homes at night.

However, just one step away from the main street, there are places that come alive as if to say that this is where the real action is. This area is somewhat similar to Eubarest that I visited on my travels with the others.

Now, we went to one of these back alleys.

There were taverns lined up haphazardly and stalls selling strange goods. Beautiful and ugly women dressed in provocative outfits were standing.

Kyunei led the way, followed by me and Mikage, Rouza and Getsuya. Aina had to stay home due to certain circumstances. I'm sorry, but she'll have to wait this time.

Eventually, we reached the entrance of a slightly dilapidated building, a stark contrast to the cheerful atmosphere of the surroundings.

"...Are you sure this is the right place?"

"'Outsiders' are not supposed to come in, so it's intentionally made to look like this."

I asked, pointing to the building, but Kyunei went inside without hesitation. Rouza followed her with excitement, and Getsuya followed silently. "Let's go too," Mikage urged me, and I followed.

As we entered and turned a corner in the hallway, an elegant door appeared, a stark contrast to the shabby surroundings. In front of it stood a sturdy man. He glared at us with a stern face.

'If it's a Lower Rank of a 3rd Rank mercenary, I think he could send them away with bare hands even if they're armed.'

Ignoring the man's intimidating aura, Kyunei approached him and reached into the valley between her ample breasts. She took out a card.

Let's not ask why she kept it "there." There's no other way to put it but that it's Kyunei.

"Here you go. I got this a while ago, but I wonder if it's still usable?"

The man took the card, read it, and then glanced at us.

"...Go ahead. However, your companions' weapons will be kept at the 'lower entrance'"

 "I understand. Thank you"

The man who returned the card took a step back and opened the door. Inside was a staircase leading down.

Following behind Kyunei, who had once again hidden the card in her cleavage, we descended into the basement.

After going down what felt like a floor and a bit, we emerged into a more open space. There was a counter to the right, and at the back were double doors. There were 2 men standing guard, like gatekeepers.

However, unlike the man upstairs, they had a cheerful atmosphere.

"Welcome. I'm sorry, but we'll have to check your weapons here. If we find any weapons, you'll be forced to leave. Please keep that in mind."

As one of the men gestured towards the counter, Kyunei nodded at me. We each took off our weapons and placed them on the counter. Finally, Getsuya was very reluctant, but on Rouza's orders, he reluctantly took his sword off his waist.

However, I -- and probably Rouza too -- didn't mind not having weapons on hand. There was no need to mention it.

When the men confirmed that we were unarmed, they smiled and opened both doors and bowed respectfully.

"Now, ladies and gentlemen, enjoy yourselves tonight."

And then, I gasped at the sight that unfolded behind the doors.

A bright and cheerful space that was as bright as day. There were many people, and the sounds of excitement and shouts echoed from all over the place. If it weren't for the well-dressed people, I might have mistaken it for a market.

The main difference from a market was that the tables were filled with table games like cards and dice. There were also other unfamiliar objects, and I could see that the customers were getting excited about them.

"Wooooowwww! Is this the 'casino' of the royal capital? It's great! It's getting exciting!"

Rouza's eyes sparkled with excitement, like a child with a new toy.

Yes, the game that Rouza had asked Kyunei about was a 'casino'.
