Chapter 1 Prologue
"You're a lowly commoner's daughter, acting like a Marquis' lady? What a joke!"
"Why do I have to live in the same mansion as a worthless guy like you?"
"You're a girl who reads books and thinks she's smart. Go back to downtown!"
Surrounded by 3 older kids who were physically stronger than her, the girl didn't back down, staring back at them.
"You have nothing to do with this. Return the book!"
The oldest-looking boy among them, seemingly annoyed by her unyielding attitude, held up the book above his head and pushed the girl with his other hand.
"Kyaa!"
The girl, who was trying to retrieve her book, lost her balance and fell backward, unfortunately landing in a pond with a water lily flower floating on it.
The girl wasn't unable to swim. However, she was wearing a formal dress that day because she had plans to go out, which meant it was heavy and waterlogged, making it hard for her to move her arms and legs.
There were no adults around (since bullying usually happens where adults can't see), and even though the girl was struggling in the water, no one came to help her.
The kids who were bullying her also thought it was getting too serious, but they hesitated to call for an adult because it would expose their bullying.
"I-I don't know anything!"
"It's not my fault!"
"Brother, sister, don't leave me behind!"
The girl who was the first to speak and had bullied her the most escaped from the scene, followed by her brother and a sister-like figure.
Now, the girl struggled for a while, but eventually, water started entering her mouth and nose, making her feel miserable and dizzy.
"Ahh, why did this have to happen to me... I wanted to fall in love and get married this time..."
'...'
'...'
'...huh?'
'Wait, what do you mean by "this time"?'
As her consciousness began to fade, the girl suddenly remembered her "past life".
"Ahh, this isn't an isekai reincarnation?!"
The next instant, a sudden change occurred in the girl's body as memories she had forgotten began to resurface. A intense heat burst forth from near her heart, spreading throughout her body through her blood vessels.
And without being taught by anyone, she naturally understood. This is magic, the power necessary to live, and...
"Water won't hurt me. Water will save me, protect me, and heal me. Please help me!"
Without saying a word, just by thinking, the water's surface began to rise as if lifting the girl up, and gently pushed her to the water's edge.
"Ugh, cough, cough..."
The girl who emerged onto land spat out the water she had swallowed, and collapsed onto the spot, her hair and dress drenched. The water that had entered her lungs was also expelled with her newfound magic, which she had just become aware of with each breath.
However, her physical strength, severely depleted, and the sudden revival of her past memories, as well as the exhaustion from using magic for the first time, had pushed the girl's spirit to its limits.
"Ah, I don't even have the energy to move a finger. Dammit, what are they going to do to me...?"
Thinking such unsettling thoughts, the girl lost consciousness just like that.
