Chapter 28 The Young Lady Ponders Her Hobby

Chapter 28 The Young Lady Ponders Her Hobby

Considering Sara just got out of bed, she decided to learn sewing, which doesn't require much physical energy, for the day.

"This is, um, quite creative, isn't it?"

First, she learned the basics of embroidery, and it turned out her hand-eye coordination wasn't that bad. Then, it was time to embroider a handkerchief, but that's when the problems started. The beautifully embroidered "cat" looked like a mysterious 4-legged creature, and the "flower" looked like a weird, star-shaped thing.

In short, Sara had no artistic talent whatsoever. If Rebecca drew a rough sketch, it would turn out to be a beautiful piece.

She hastily switched to painting lessons, but the result was disastrous. When she tried to paint a flower, it looked like a Rorschach test pattern, and when she drew Maria sitting in a chair, it looked like a cursed painting that would summon an evil spirit.

If it continued like this, Sara might get accused of heresy, so Rebecca gave up on teaching her painting.

"I've realized that I can't solve everything with cheats," Sara thought, feeling a bit down. Looking back, her art grades were pretty bad too. Her teachers even scolded her for choosing art, saying it was a waste of her good grades in other subjects.

"Miss Rebecca, I remember you saying that noblewomen should have hobbies, but it seems difficult to make embroidery a hobby. And as for painting, it just gives my teacher a headache."

"Ordinary noblewomen have a lot of free time, so they can devote themselves to their hobbies. They also gather with other ladies from different families who share the same interests and deepen their friendships..."

"But I don't have that kind of time, do I? I have duties to attend to later."

"That's true. You're too busy, Ms. Sara."

"That's the same for you, Miss Rebecca, isn't it? You have bookkeeping to do with uncle today, don't you?"

 "Yes, that's the plan."

"We need to overcome this difficulty first."

 "Yes, that's true."

Sara and Rebecca looked at each other and exchanged a wry smile.

"I know you can do a lot of things for socializing, but what is your favorite hobby, Miss Rebecca?"

"It's not very ladylike, but I loves Horseback Riding. I especially enjoys long-distance riding."

"That's amazing. I want to learn Horseback Riding too when I'm a bit older."

"Let's go on a long-distance ride together when that time comes."

 "Yes, definitely!"

It seems that in her past life, Sara also enjoyed horseback riding, so it's likely that her hobby in this life is also Horseback Riding. After all, it wouldn't be fitting for a noble lady to have a hobby like "bar-hopping".

When she was asked about her hobby in her past life, she said "reading", but books are really expensive in this world, so it's hard for a commoner like Sara to call it a hobby.

Although paper and printing technology have already been invented, the prices are still quite high because the technology hasn't advanced much. There are many books with elaborate bindings, and in noble families, books are treated as assets.

There is a library in Grandchester Castle, but it's mostly filled with academic books, dictionaries, and books on history and military strategy. There are also old maps written on sheepskin, which might be interesting from a historical perspective, but it's not exactly a hobby fit for a noble lady.

Of course, there are stories and picture books in this world too. However, even among nobles and wealthy merchants, owning a few books is considered a luxury, and having a large collection would make you a collector.

'I wonder if there are any cheap books like paperbacks circulating around. Are there no authors writing stories?'

As she was thinking about this, it became lunchtime, and after lunch, it was time for her duties.

In the office, Rob and the bureaucrats were waiting.

 "Sara, are you okay now?"

Everyone was looking at Sara with concern, seemingly worried about her magic exhaustion.

"Yes, I'm fine. Thank you for your concern."

Then James handed her a small bouquet of flowers.

"Miss Sara, congratulations on your magic manifestation. But please don't overexert yourself."

"Wow, they're beautiful. Thank you, Mr. James. I'll train hard without overdoing it."

"Ah, James is trying to suck up to her, isn't he?"

"That's right. Even her uncle hasn't congratulated her yet."

Ben suddenly chimed in, and Robert agreed with him.

"Milady Sara, I'll take care of this bouquet for you."

Maria took the bouquet and left the room, and after a while, she placed a small, delicate vase on the desk. The vase, with its subtle blend of green and blue glass, was extremely beautiful.

"The flowers are lovely, but this vase is also beautiful, isn't it?"

"Actually, Mr. James gave me this vase too."

 "What, really?"

"Again, it's James... I'm so jealous. I should've prepared a gift for Sara too."

Then James looked a bit embarrassed and said, "That vase was given to me by my fiancée, who wanted me to present it to Miss Sara..."

"Wow, your fiancée went out of her way for me?"

"I visited her family for our wedding arrangements, and when I told her about Miss Sara's magic, she insisted that I give this to you. It's her handmade work."

"What, she made this vase herself?"

"Her father is a glass craftsman, and she's been making all sorts of things since she was a child. Maybe it's a bit too much for a hobby, though."

When I looked at the vase again, I saw that the decoration was understated, but the gentle curves were beautifully crafted.

"This can't be called a hobby. It's a truly magnificent work of art."

"Haha, I'll make sure to tell her that."

"Mr. James, it's not just flattery. This is genuinely amazing. What does Miss Rebecca think?"

Rebecca, who was sitting next to Robert, also started gazing at the vase on Sara's desk.

"This definitely surpasses the realm of a hobby. I think it's a work of art."

"Yeah, I think so too, James!"

 "Yeah, but..."

James hastily replied, but his expression was relaxed. It seemed like he was happy that his fiancée was being praised.

"Please convey my gratitude to your fiancée. I really love it."

"Yes I'm sure she'll be thrilled."

'Ugh... I wish I could have a refined hobby like that too...'

While thinking to herself "and so on" and whatnot, Sara silently tackled the mountain of documents in front of her, just like she did every day.
