Chapter 36 Security Measures

Chapter 36 Security Measures

By the time we reunited with our guardians and maids, the sun was already setting. It seemed like we had spent more time in the eastern building than I had thought.

"I'm so sorry to have kept you all waiting."

Rebecca apologized, and our guardians all looked embarrassed.

"Miss Rebecca, we don't have much time, so shall we decide on our schedule for the rest of the day?"

"Yes, that's right. Today has been full of unexpected events."

Sara thought for a moment about their future plans.

'Thanks to Grandfather, our schedule has changed significantly, but in a way, this might be a good opportunity to return to a normal state. If that's the case, it would be better for the office maids to stay in this tower and help with document organization. By the way, is it confirmed that the girls will be moving into the tower?'

"By the way, if I get Uncle's permission, will the 3 of you live and work in the tower? Your guardians seemed to be against it..."

"I want to organize the plants in the Secret Garden," Amelia the Pharmacist Girl said, and Alicia the Alchemist Girl chimed in, "If possible, I'd like to organize Paracelsus's documents and continue his research."

Teresa the Blacksmith Girl said, "I need to maintain the distillation furnace, so I need to return to my workshop," but then added, "However, if possible, I'd like to commute from here to my workshop. And if we're going to brew liquor seriously, I want to make a bigger still."

Sara thought for a moment before bowing her head to our guardians.

"Respected ladies, sisters, and assistants, I'm aware of your positions, but if the preparations inside the tower are complete, would it be okay for us to take care of the girls here?"

Even the guardians couldn't refuse when the young lady of the lord's family bowed her head to them. Although they were reluctant, they gave their permission for us to live in the tower.

"Starting tomorrow, we'll need to confirm the work locations of the maids with Uncle, but it might take some time for us to return to the office. Can we ask you to help with cleaning and organizing the tower in the meantime?"

"I understand. Probably Sir Robert won't refuse either, so let's prepare the 3 of your rooms first. Would the guest rooms on the second floor be acceptable?"

Then Amelia panicked and exclaimed, "No, no, no! We can't possibly use the guest rooms! Please give us the servants' quarters instead!"

"But, you ladies are experts, so..." Eliza started to say, and Alicia chimed in, "I also think I wouldn't be able to sleep in a noble's guest room." Teresa was nodding in agreement as well.

'I see, so noble guest rooms might be too much for commoners, huh?'

"Then let's prepare 3 spacious servants' rooms with good sunlight. Eliza, can you take care of that?"

 "I understand."

"Today, let's all go back and clean up to a decent point. As for tomorrow and onwards, the girls can come and go as they please until the rooms are ready. Once the preparations are complete, you can move in without any issues. If there's anything urgent, please let Eliza know."

 """Yes."""

The guardians looked worried, but in this country, someone is considered an adult at 16, so the 3 of them are already adult women. Excuses like "living alone is worrying" or "it's too early to be independent" won't fly.

Moreover, working at Grandchester Castle is a dream come true for commoners living within the domain. And Robert has set their salaries to be the same as those of the guild- dispatched alchemists, blacksmiths, and pharmacists. In other words, it's the best workplace they could hope for, even if they can't officially register with the guild.

"Miss Rebecca and I have classes, so we can't come in the morning. We'll try to show up as much as possible in the afternoon, but it's unlikely we can make it every day. We'd like detailed reports, but please work as independently as possible."

 """"I understand.""""

"There's a special request for Mr. Fran..."

 "What is it?"

"We need to take care of the important ladies, so I want to review the security measures from scratch. Can you replace the front gate and locks with new ones? And can you also review all the entrances and exits, including the servants' back door?"

 "Understood."

"Eliza, do we need to inform the butler or the steward about this matter?"

"Yes, I'll take care of it."

"Thank you. And Mr. Fran, I'm sorry to ask you for so many favors, but can you also make a new gate for the Secret Garden? If you can be the go-between, I don't mind asking the other members for help. I think it's probably made of wrought iron."

"No problem. I'll take care of it along with the tower's entrance and exit."

 "Great, thank you."

"Will the bill for the expenses be okay if we go through Eliza...?"

 Then Theofrastos and Alexander interrupted.

"Regarding the expenses for the entrance and the tower's repairs, the Alchemist Guild will cover the costs, so would it be possible to share Paracelsus' documents with the Alchemist Guild as well?"

"The Pharmacist Guild will also cover the expenses for the garden gate's repairs, and we'll arrange for personnel to maintain the garden's interior, so can we prioritize selling those plants to the Pharmacist Guild?"

"I'm sorry. I can't make that decision on my own. Can I discuss it with my uncle and grandfather and get back to you?"

 ""Yes, I'll wait.""

For now, we've made arrangements for the future, and today we'll all withdraw. Teresa and Fran will disassemble the large distillation furnace and move it to Teresa's workshop today. They'll schedule the cleaning and repairs with Fran's other work.

'Maybe making the herbal medicine and documents public will lead to unexpected profits...? Even if it's no good, we can use the repair and maintenance fees to cover the costs. We could even try to auction off the documents and herbal medicine without relying on the guild...'

Sara started thinking seriously about how to utilize the assets she had on hand to maximize her profits. Since Grandchester was currently short on cash, she wanted to find a way to get her hands on some money here.

'However, since Paracelsus' documents and herbs are Grandchester's assets, it's impossible to hide them from Grandfather. We need Uncle's cooperation, no matter what. Ugh... I'm getting tired of thinking about this...'

On the carriage ride back to the mansion, Sara let out a deep sigh.
