Chapter 45 Grandchester's People

Chapter 45 Grandchester'S People

Sara and Rebecca sat down at the breakfast table when the Marquis Grandchester and Robert entered from the garden.

 "Good morning Grandfather, Uncle."

 "Good morning, Sara."

"Father and I went to watch the knights train."

"That's why Grandfather and Uncle came from the garden. I didn't think the knights trained so early."

"They train before breakfast. This morning we had a surprise inspection to check if anyone was slacking off."

Apparently, the Marquis had become suspicious and was carrying out surprise inspections. The embezzlement by a trusted subordinate seemed to have deeply troubled him.

"So how did the knights perform, Father?"

"They weren't lazy, but they seemed a little lax. We told the captain to tighten things up before the season of monster activity."

"Aren't you being too strict, Father?"

"What are you talking about? The knights are responsible for protecting the people, so they can't afford to be lax."

The Marquis Grandchester seemed to be a very serious person. While in the capital, Sara had rarely had the opportunity to see him work, so it was an eye-opening experience to see her grandfather in action.

"Grandfather, there's something I'd like to tell you."

 "Oh?"

"I've discovered my magic ability thanks to Miss Rebecca's guidance."

"Yes, I heard about that. I heard it's multiple attributes."

'He must've known. Miss Rebecca, nice work.'

"I've discovered the fire, wind, water, and earth attributes."

 "All 4 attributes!?"

The Marquis looked surprised, which suggests he hadn't received a detailed report. Robert was also surprised because he didn't know about Sara's attributes.

"I thought you only had fire and wind like Arthur, but all 4 attributes. It's a shame you're a girl."

"That's a mean thing to say to Sara."

"It's true, though, Robert. It's too late now anyway. I apologize, Sara."

'Even Uncle, who should understand me, calls it cruel for me to be a woman. This world really takes for granted superiority of men over women, huh.'

 "No, I don't mind."

Both Sara and Rebecca understood correctly that there was no point in giving any other answer than this. Even back when Sarasa was in her previous life, she had keenly felt the hardship of living in a male-dominated society. She wouldn't be hurt by something like this now.

"Hmm. By the way, Sara. I'm assuming I'll give you a magic manifestation gift, but is there anything you'd like?"

"It's enough for me to take me in and educate me. So, no more, and I don't know what to ask for."

This was the kind of game that Rebecca had thoroughly drilled into her as part of her etiquette education.

"That's what a grandfather should do. There's nothing for Sara to worry about. It would be a disgrace to the Grandchester name if we didn't give a gift for your magic manifestation. Just ask for something you'd like."

"What did Uncle get as gifts?"

"Land. Ed got land in the Royal Capital, and Arthur and I got land in the Grandchester territory. Of course, Arthur gave his to me when he left home. That's why it would be great if you got some land or a mansion, Sara."

"That's right. I should gift Sara some real estate too."

 'Okay, I have his word.'

"In that case, Grandfather, can I have the tower where Paracelsus did his experiments, and the land it's on?"

"Now that's a blast from the past."

"I want something in Grandchester Castle that I can call my own own. I've been told that it was a building that my great-grandfather worked hard on. I'd love to study and train my magic in a place where I can strongly feel my connection to the Grandchester family!"

Robert, who was next to her, knew about the situation and was looking around nervously. He didn't seem to be planning to object.

"Hmm. It seems that my father would often do various experiments in this castle with an alchemist magician named Paracelsus who became famous in the Royal Capital. They closed the tower after Paracelsus went missing, and my father passed away...but if that's the kind of tower you want, I have no problem with it, Sara."

 'I did it!'

"Thank you. Also, there seem to be various documents inside, so would it be okay to hire someone to organize and investigate them?"

"A few people is fine. Do as you please. It's much cheaper than the dresses and jewels Chloe demands."

'Wow, Miss Rebecca, you're spot on with your reading!'

"Robert, the expenses for Sara's new servant and the tower's repairs should come from your end, not the estate. The income from the land handed down by Arthur should be sufficient. It's land that Sara should rightfully receive."

"The income from the land so far should be sufficient, Father. In addition, I will give Sara Arthur's land as a gift. If she continues to hire servants in the future, it's best to use the income from this land."

"I see. If you're okay with that, it's best to transfer it to Sara."

 "Yes, Father."

Robert gave Sara a meaningful look and a refreshing smile.

'Uncle understood the value of the tower and handed it over to me...'

 "Grandfather, Uncle, thank you."

Before she knew it, Sara was crying. She didn't intend to cry, but tears flowed from her eyes. It was the first time she had cried since her memories from her past life returned, and probably since her mother passed away.

"Sara, can you please not cry?"

Robert stood up, walked over to Sara, and lifted her from her chair.

"But I'm happy... I finally feel like a true member of the Grandchester family."

'I see. I wanted to become a part of the Grandchester, not to become a noble, but to be recognized as a part of the family.'

Even though her memories from her past life were strong and tended to be forgotten, the girl who had lived in this world for 8 years, Sara, was definitely there. It was a moment when the girl Sara and the past life's Sarasa finally became one.

"Sara, you are Arthur's daughter and my granddaughter. Without a doubt, you are a member of the Grandchester family."

"Yeah, and you're my adorable niece."

 "Yes... Grandfather, Uncle..."

Sara suddenly looked at Rebecca and she was smiling with eyes that seemed to be looking at something dazzling.
