Chapter 46 A Cheat Was Hiding In An Unexpected Place
After finishing breakfast, which was a bit embarrassing, Rebecca and Sara headed to the music room. It seemed that playing indoor music was one of the accomplishments of a lady, and they needed to be able to play several instruments.
What was strange was that the instruments in this world were very similar to those in Sara's previous life. There was a grand piano-like instrument in the room, and when she opened the lid, she saw black and white keys, just like the grand piano in the Sarasa era.
"This instrument is called a 'piano.' The workshop that can make this is the only one in the country, so even noble families don't have many of them."
'Wow, it even has the same name, "piano"?'
"It's a rare instrument, I see."
"This piano was specially ordered by Marquis Grandchester for his wife, but she passed away before it was completed, so it's been left untouched for a long time."
"What a waste. But if grandfather treasures it, we can't play it, right?"
"No. His Excellency the Marquis wants someone to play it. His 3 sons don't have any musical talent, after all."
"I see."
Rebecca lifted the roof, propped it up with a stick, and sat down on the chair in front of the keyboard. There were 3 pedals at her feet, just like before.
"Since the craftsmen tune it regularly, we can play it right away."
Rebecca started playing the piano... or rather, she started tracing the scale from the beginning. Until now, Rebecca had been showing off her amazing skills in various areas, so Sara had expected her to play the piano beautifully too. But she felt a little disappointed.
"Aren't you going to play a song?"
"Actually, I'm not good at piano... but I thought I'd explain it to you since you're interested, Ms. Sara."
Rebecca's face turned a bit red. It seemed she was forced to challenge herself in an area she wasn't good at.
"Can I try playing too?"
"Of course!"
As Sara adjusted the chair to match the height of the piano, Maria called over the exclusive maid from the music room next door and set up a piano accompaniment pedal.
'Whoa, an accompaniment pedal? This is seriously high-end. Did someone from a past life develop this?'
When she sat down, she felt strangely at ease.
'Hmm... I think I used to take piano lessons when I was a kid, just like Sarasa.'
Although Sara couldn't clearly remember parts of her past unrelated to work, the moment she sat in front of the piano, memories of attending piano lessons as a child came flooding back into her mind.
She waited for the rush of past life memories to settle, and took a few deep breaths to calm my racing heart. Just as Rebecca was about to call out to her, noticing that something was off, Sara raised her hands and began to play the piano.
It was Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor, also known as the "Moonlight Sonata".
'Hmm, this is weird... I wasn't this good at piano. I liked this song, so I tried practicing it, but my fingers wouldn't move at all...'
Back in her Sarasa days, her piano skills were only at a child's level, but her fingers were now effortlessly playing the melody she had imagined in her mind. It was as if her body had memorized the song without her even realizing it.
'Wait, what? Is this some kind of music cheat????'
Although she was getting a bit panicked, she finished playing the first movement and stood up. When she turned around, Rebecca's face was beaming with a noble smile, while Maria and the music room maid were frozen in place with their eyes wide open.
"Milady Sara, you're a seasoned pianist, aren't you? It's amazing at your age!"
After the shock wore off, the music room maid started crying.
"What's wrong? Why are you crying?"
As I watched the maid sobbing uncontrollably, I couldn't remain calm either. I rushed over to her, worried that she might be feeling unwell.
"This piano has been waiting for its destined player, untouched by anyone else. It seems to have finally found its match."
"Hey, that's not a big deal, right? I just tried playing it."
Then, Rebecca chimed in from behind.
"Ms. Sara, I think your explanation is a bit far-fetched. Miss, would you tell us your name?"
"Ah, I'm Juliette."
"Ah, Juliette. Since Ms. Sara is so talented, it's not like she's crying just because of the piano. Can you show us what other instruments you have?"
"Yes, I understand."
Juliette moved towards the instrument cabinet and brought out a leather case. From its shape, it was probably a violin-like instrument.
"This is a violin. It's a bit old, but if you'd like to try playing it, I can tune the strings and prepare the bow and rosin, milady."
"No, this instrument is too big for me. I'll have to wait until I grow a bit more."
"That's true, just as you said."
'Looks like it's a violin after all. This is definitely a leftover from a past life. And it's a professional one at that!'
As Juliette picked up the violin and examined it, the curve of the neck and the bulge of the lower bout were quite pronounced. The f-holes were slightly warped.
'Yeah, I've got a bad feeling about this. Could it be... that there's an IHS logo inside the body or something?'
Sara hadn't learned violin before, nor did she have any knowledge about it, but some unfamiliar knowledge like "Del Gesù?" started swirling in her head.
'What's going on? Is this knowledge from some old book I read? Is some kind of cheat ability activating or something?'
"I thought Ms. Sara might want to practice with a kid-sized kitara or something, but... at this rate, it might not be necessary. I've never seen a noble lady play the piano like that before."
"Milady Orson, pianos aren't something you find in every household, so we have kid-sized violins and guitars. We also have some wind instruments, but they might be a bit heavy for Milady Sara's build."
"That's right, please go ahead and ask. And, call me Rebecca, okay?"
"I understand, Milady Rebecca."
The result of Juliette trying out the children's instruments she brought was that Sara could play the violin at a professional level, but the kitara was only played poorly like a child.
'Maybe it's because I saw Sarasa play before, and I can imagine the performance, so it's not possible if I don't have that image?'
"For now, since you can play the piano and violin that well, you might not need to dedicate a lot of time to music practice, Ms. Sara."
It was Juliette who was shocked by Rebecca's words.
"But, with such a wonderful player right here, you're saying milady won't perform? Please, if you have some free time, come visit me and play the piano, milady. It's a pity if the piano goes to waste like this."
"It's okay, Juliette. If it's me, I'll play for you. I don't think I'll come that frequently, but it's not bad to make piano playing a hobby, I think."
Sara thought she had no artistic talent since she had no talent in painting. However, it turned out that she had an incredible talent for music, which could be called a cheat level, and she secretly felt relieved.
'Good. For now, I've found something that can be a hobby for a noble lady like me!'
