Chapter 55 Ramen And Ginger Grilled Pork
"Sara, are you a reincarnator?"
Sara was taken aback, her ladylike demeanor crumbling, when the word "reincarnator" came out of Marquis's mouth. She never thought he'd know about it.
"Huh? How did Grandfather know about it?"
Rebecca quickly cautioned, "Ms. Sara, your language is getting rough," but honestly, Sara wasn't in the right state of mind.
"From your reaction, it seems you're not a Grandchester ancestor. I've cleared the room, but I suppose it's still embarrassing here. Let's go to my room. Will you come with me, Lady Rebecca?"
Rebecca looked perplexed.
"I don't mind, but is it okay for an outsider like me to participate in your family's secret matters?"
"Sara's condition is something only Lady Rebecca understands. I don't think we can hide it, and I also want to hear the opinion of someone who's made a pact with a fairy."
"Then let's go."
This time, Marquis scooped up Sara and started walking quickly. He instructed Maria, who was waiting outside the room, to return to the room first.
In Marquis's room, a servant was waiting. It seemed they were preparing for a snack, and a plate with light refreshments was on the table. Marquis instructed the servant to prepare wine and tea, then gently placed Sara on the sofa in the center of the room and sat down himself.
"You two can sit down as well."
He gestured to Robert and Rebecca to sit, and they sat on the opposite sofa, across from Sara, with the table between them.
"By the way, Sara's performance was impressive."
"Thank you, Uncle."
"It was good. Revi couldn't teach you music, so I was going to arrange for a different teacher, but if you've got that talent, it's fine."
'Uncle, it's not fine at all! Miss Rebecca's eyes aren't smiling!!'
"I'm also stroking my chest in relief."
Rebecca's elegant, unsmiling smile seemed to freeze the air in the room. However, Robert didn't notice at all.
"Robert, you're getting old and still haven't grown up at all. Lady Rebecca, I apologize for my son's misconduct."
"It's not that, it's my problem as a governess that I lack power..."
Robert realized his mistake in that conversation, but it was too late.
"Ah, no, I mean, I'm not saying Revi is lacking something."
'No way, you said it already, Uncle,' Sara thought, but she judged that it was better not to continue this conversation.
"I'm just glad Grandfather approves of me. It was 'worth' it."
"That was a song I heard 'a long time ago', wasn't it?"
"Yes, it was. It's been many years."
In the awkward atmosphere, they continued their intentional conversation, and the servant returned with wine and tea, served them, and then left the room after reading the mood.
"Well, shall we get to the main topic?"
"Yes, Grandfather."
Robert made a gulping sound, swallowing his saliva.
"First of all, let me tell you. The first generation of the Grandchester family was a reincarnator. The current head of the family has inherited the records left by the first generation."
"I see. I heard that from Uncle Rob before. There's a record of opening up the Grandchester territory using memories from a past life."
Then Robert looked surprised.
"Wait a minute. Does the 'Zense no Kioku (Memories of a Past Life)' magic really exist?"
"Robert, don't cut me off and listen to the end."
Marquis let out a sigh and scolded Robert.
"Uncle, 'Zense no Kioku (Memories of a Past Life)' is not magic. It's a word from another world, meaning memories from before birth. The first generation of Grandchester used knowledge from their previous world to open up the territory."
Sara was born and raised in this world, so she could understand and read the language normally, but of course, the language of this world is not Japanese. However, 'Zense no Kioku (Memories of a Past Life)' was clearly a Japanese phrase.
"The ancestor who possessed memories of their past life was named Henry, but it's said that they also went by the alias "Kazuya". I wonder if Sara is from the same country as Kazuya?"
"Probably from the same country. 'Zense no Kioku' is a phrase from the language of the country where I was born."
"So... maybe Sara can read it too."
Marquis stood up and brought back an old parchment from the next room.
"This is one of Kazuya's records, but no one has been able to decipher it."
Sara gently unfolded the parchment.
[Ugh, I wanna eat ramen so bad. With extra garlic. And I wanna eat rice too. I miss the ginger grilled pork (shogayaki) set meal from Tsurugame restaurant...]
"Can Sara read the wisdom of our ancestors?"
"Wisdom...?"
'Uh, what do I do? Should I just say it straight out? But they'll definitely get disappointed, right? Like, can I even get them to believe me? They're expecting so much!'
But I couldn't bring myself to make a false report, so I reluctantly decided to reveal the contents.
"I can understand the contents. Well, Grandfather... please don't get too disappointed, but this is just a casual scribble, like our ancestor's complaints."
"Hmm, what's written in it?"
"It seems he was very hungry and missed the food from his past life..."
Robert showed interest in this.
"Is that a food that doesn't exist in Grandchester territory?"
"I've never seen it here. It might exist in another country, though."
"Can I hear the name of the food? I'll look into it. If it exists in another country, there might be another reincarnator there too."
Sara had also predicted that there would be other reincarnators. With 2 reincarnators already in Grandchester territory, it's highly likely that there are others in different regions.
And there's the piano and violin too. It's too much of a coincidence for them to have developed such high-level techniques on their own.
"I also think there are other reincarnators. For example, the piano and violin are almost the same as they were in our previous world. These aren't things that can be developed overnight. I think it's likely that craftsmen were reincarnated."
"That's amazing. So Sara can play the piano, huh?"
"Your Excellency the Marquis, Ms. Sara's violin skills are also incredible, you know."
"Hmm, I think I'll have her play the violin for me next."
"No, it's not that great...if I get too much attention, I might end up disappointing you."
The Marquis poured wine from the bottle into his glass with a glug, and then filled it to the brim.
"It seems Sara saved Grandchester's crisis, didn't she?"
"No, no, I just lent a little hand."
"If Sara wasn't there, we wouldn't have been able to finish all those documents, and we'd still be using those old, hard-to-use ledgers. I, and even the bureaucrats, are truly grateful."
"The ledgers are thanks to my past life. I brought the system I used over there and applied it here. It's not my achievement, but thanks to the people of that world."
Rebecca elegantly picked up her cup and saucer, took a sip of tea, and then gazed at Sara with a smile.
"That's exactly what you'd call 'Zense no Kioku (Memories of a Past Life)' magic, isn't it?"
