Chapter 66 New Friends

Chapter 66 New Friends

"Ms. Sara, I have a proposal, but how about we invite the fairies from the garden to come here for now?"

 "Here?!"

"Well, if it's the fairies, they can come right away, can't they?"

 """Huh? Is that so?"""

 Rebecca nodded.

"The fairies have a special path, the 'Fairy's Path', that only they can use. If they use it, they can come even if they're far away."

'What, I didn't know that! Is it really limited to fairies only? Will they teach me how to use it?'

"Ms. Sara, I can sense what you're thinking, but it's really limited to fairies only. I've tried it myself to confirm."

'Ah, I knew it! Everyone thinks the same thing, don't they?'

 Sara smiled wryly.

"For now, let's call Fey and have him talk to the kids in the flower garden, okay?"

"Then should I call Mike too?"

Rebecca looked around and thought for a bit.

"It might be a bit too crowded, though. There aren't many people who can see fairies, but it's not like no one can, so someone might notice. It's okay for me since people know I have fairy friends, but Ms. Sara might not want it to be too well-known, right?"

"That's right. Even if it gets out eventually, it's not information I want to make public in a big way."

'This is so scary! It feels like I'm being targeted or something!'

Just then, Mike suddenly appeared above Sara.

"Don't you think it's mean to not call me? Shouldn't we make sure that no one except the maidens notice?"

'Ah, Mike gets angry and his ears fold back and his tail puffs up. He's just like a cat!'

Sara, who was watching with a gentle smile, was actually a huge cat lover.

"Miss Rebecca, Mike has already come even though I didn't call him."

"Yes, I can hear his voice."

 "I can hear it too."

"Ah, I can hear it too."

It seemed that the maidens could hear the voices, but the guys, who were still passionately discussing, didn't seem to notice at all.

"It doesn't seem like they can hear it, so it's probably okay."

Then, the fairy friends of each of the girls appeared beside them.

"Ah, in the end, everyone came, didn't they?"

"That's right, if a friend is in trouble, anyone would help out, right?"

Fey, who was circling around Rebecca, said with a cheerful smile.

"But Sara doesn't get it at all!"

 Mike still looked indignant.

"Sorry about that. I'm really happy, thanks Mike."

 "Yeah, it's okay, Sara."

Mike's mood improved, and he started teasing Sara's hair. When Sara lightly stroked Mike's forehead with her finger, he let out a silly "purr" sound.

"Let's go outside for now and call the other fairy folks. Even if there are people who can see them, we can pretend they're gathering around Miss Rebecca."

* * *

Leaving the hot guys behind, the maidens went outside the tent and looked around. Compared to before they entered the tent, the surrounding wheat field had been harvested quite a bit.

"Isn't Sara going to help with the reaping?"

 Mike asked Sara.

"Hmm... I know it'll be faster if I help, but I'm a bit hesitant."

 "Why?"

"If I do it quickly right in front of them, it might seem silly for them to do it themselves. Plus, since it's a crop that requires care, I think they want to do it themselves."

Amelia the Pharmacist Girl, who was watching this exchange, prefaced her opinion with "But as someone who has helped with farming..."

"I think it's a good idea to ask them about your feelings too, Miss Sara. Reaping this entire field quickly is a huge task, and it's an emergency situation. I think they'll be happy if we do it quickly."

"What do you mean, Ms. Amelia?"

 "That's what I mean."

Amelia the Pharmacist Girl smiled and nodded. Rebecca agreed with her opinion as well.

"Ms. Sara, you thinks of yourself as a commoner, but from their perspective, you're a lady from the Grandchester family. It's pretty important to create a track record of 'the lord's family helping themselves with magic.' It might be a noble-like way of thinking, and Ms. Sara might not like it, but I think it's okay to do it all at once here."

'That makes sense. It's also good for demonstration purposes.'

"Miss Rebecca, is it okay if we dig holes or set fires and burn things?"

"I think they'll be very welcome. Especially digging holes, it's really hard work."

"Okay. Then, I'll confirm with Grandfather and the others if it's okay to help with magic and get their permission."

Just then, Fey flew over to Sara and pulled her hair.

"Wait a minute, Sara. Let's call the garden fairies first."

 "Is that better?"

"I think they can teach you a lot, including about the disease affecting the wheat."

 'That's a great idea!'

"That might be good. Fey, can you call the fairies for us?"

 "Leave it to me!"

Fey slipped into the fairy path with a whoosh.

Alicia the Alchemist Girl, who was watching, couldn't help but stretch out her hand to touch the crack where Fey disappeared. However, she couldn't touch the crack, and her outstretched hand swung through empty air. Sara and Amelia the Pharmacist Girl also tried to touch it, but they just swung through empty air too.

Rebecca smiled slightly at the sight.

"Hehe, I used to do the same thing."

"This is really strange, Miss Rebecca!"

"Right? But they can bring small things they can carry, and it's convenient."

"That's true. It's already pretty convenient just for that."

Suddenly, the crack grew to about twice its size, and a large number of fairies flew out from it. The fairies that had just arrived were thrilled by the unfamiliar scenery and flew around, bumping into each other mid-air and occasionally getting dizzy.

'It feels like a fantasy scene again.'

For the time being, the miadens decided to let the fairies do as they pleased until they were satisfied. It's possible that they were so cute that it's more accurate to say they were being doted on.

After a while, Fey spoke up to them. The fairies gathered around Sara all at once. Some of them even tried to ride on Sara's head, only to be chased away by Mike.

"Sara~, is it true that you need our help with something?"

"That's right. It's just that the rye here has fallen ill, so I'm reaping it."

"What do you mean by 'ill'?"

A fairy with a green, dog-like body picked a nearby ear of rye and tossed it away with a "Thwack" sound. The ear of rye that fell into Sara's hands had a black fungus growing on it.

"These kids aren't malicious, you know. It's just that they want to increase their numbers, which is an instinct for living things."

"That's true. While it's toxic to humans, the fungus is just trying to propagate itself."

"Ugh, I don't think you fairies thinking that deeply about it, though."

The palm-sized green dog fairy fluttered over to Sara's hands and lightly touched the rye with its front paws. Then, the ear of rye broke apart into tiny particles and dispersed into the wind.

"The fungus that Sara was calling 'rye fungus' has disappeared. Well, the rye itself disappeared too, but it had already changed, so it couldn't go back to its original state."

"You mean you erased the changed rye and the fungus?"

"That's right. If we put it in human terms, it's like we killed them."

At that moment, Sara felt a chill. This fairy had just wiped out the rye and the fungus right before her eyes, and maybe even other microorganisms.

Of course, Sara was planning to reap and incinerate the rye and weeds anyway, so what this fairy was doing wasn't any different. However, seeing this fairy eradicate the rye in an instant made her wonder what would happen if the target was a human.

"I think I understand what Sara is thinking. You're thinking that if I were to erase humans like I did with the rye, it would be scary, right?"

"Yeah, sorry about that. I was scared even though you did it for us..."

"Don't worry about it, it's a normal reaction for humans, I know that."

The green dog gently patted Sara's head with his front paws... or rather, he lightly tapped her head with his paw pads.

"I'm a spirit who controls plants. That's why I have the power to change wheat, which is a plant, into something else. This is a special ability given to me by the Creator God."

'Creator God? Does such an existence really exist? Did the Creator God also reincarnate me?'

"So, you can only erase plants or something?"

"It's not exactly erasing, but more like changing them into different plants."

"Does that mean you can create a different plant from wheat?"

"Yeah, that's right. I changed that kid into a marigold flower earlier."

'What the heck?! That's an insane cheat!'

"That's an amazing ability, isn't it?"

"But it uses a lot of magical power, so I don't use it often."

"Can I borrow your magical power?"

"If Sara becomes friends with me, I might be able to lend you some magical power."

Then Mike stood up, bristling with anger.

 "Hey! Sara's friend is me!"

"Oh, being friends doesn't have to be exclusive to one person. I want to be friends with Sara too."

 "What did you just say!!"

A small dog and cat started fighting above Sara's head. It was cute, but also a bit annoying.

"Sorry, you two. Please calm down. My ears are going to go crazy."

"Hey Sara, can you teach this dog some sense?"

 "Sense?"

"Yeah, Sara is my friend, after all!"

 "That's true, isn't it?"

Mike gave the green dog a smug look and slapped its face with his long tail. The green dog cowered under Mike's tail attack and slid off Sara's head, landing on her shoulder.

"Hey Mike, what are you doing? That's not very nice."

"But this dog is being too cheeky."

"So, Mike, I have a question. Would you be cruel to a kind spirit who is friends with me?"

 "That's... not okay, but..."

Mike hung his head in shame, looking dejected.

"So, one more question. Can I only have one fairy friend??"

"There's no such thing, but Sara is my Sara, right?"

"Hmm... I think Mike wants to be friends with many humans and fairies. It's more fun that way, don't you think? Even if you're friends with others, it doesn't change the fact that I'm Mike's friend, right?"

 "That's true, but..."

 "Then, apologize properly!"

Mike apologized to the green dog sitting on Sara's shoulder.

"I'm sorry. I thought I might lose my friend, and I got worried."

"It's okay. Sara is amazing, isn't she?"

 "Yeah! That's true!"

"So, Mike, I'm jeaolus of you."

"Then, why don't you become Sara's friend too?"

 "Is that okay?!"

"If it's Sara, it's fine, don't you think?"

'Ah, Mike is so simple-minded... This is getting out of hand...'

"Will you become my friend too?"

 "Yeah, I will!"

"Then, I will name you. Hmm... How about 'Pochi' for your name?"

"Yeah Thanks for the name, Sara. My name is Pochi."

Author: Ugh, that's a terrible naming sense...

Sara: If it's a dog, then Pochi is fine, right?

Author: You should give it a more green-like name, don't you think?

 Sara: No way, that's different...

Author: If a dog is Pochi, then a cat should be Tama, right?

Sara: Tama has to be a white cat, or it's no good.

 Author: Why is that?!

Sara: It's a Sunday evening tradition, isn't it?

Author: I don't watch that show. Listening to that ending theme makes me depressed, thinking about work the next day...

Sara: Huh, don't you think work is fun?!

 Author: You're such a workaholic...
