chapter 187 Turning Point

Chapter 187 Turning Point

After the meeting ended, Sara left a golem toy (first-class dangerous goods) in the living room, using magic to store it away so the guys from Grandchester (those annoying brats) wouldn't play with it and break it.

As Maria led her back to her room, Sara was lost in thought.

'Hmm... I think if people supply magic to the golem through the board, it'll flow into the magic stone on the golem's side too. But if they do that, the kids will drain their magic in no time, won't they? I should ask Ms. Alicia (Alchemist Girl) about how to control magic consumption. And I should ask about safety devices too...'

Sara suddenly stopped in her tracks.

 'Safety devices?'

She had made the toy in a reckless mood, but Sara finally realized she had stepped into dangerous territory.

If she sold the golem toy at Sophia Merchant Guild, people would definitely catch the attention of the golems guarding the main store. It was already a hot topic in the capital. And if the royal family saw it, they would definitely consider using it for military purposes.

'If I present a golem that can fight with magic to the royal family, and they order me to present the same kind of golem as the ones at the main store... what would I do then?'

 "Milady Sara, what's wrong?"

"I was just thinking about something."

"It's getting late, so you should get some rest soon."

 "That's true, isn't it?"

Sara went back to her room, still feeling uneasy.

After changing into her nightclothes and getting into bed, for some reason, all the animals gathered around her. Mike, Pochi, Sedrick, and their companions all transformed into animals and jumped onto her bed.

"What's going on with all of you today?"

"I saw Sara getting all riled up, so I got worried. You okay?"

"Surprisingly, I'm feeling pretty refreshed. I said what I wanted to say, after all."

 "Well, if that's the case..."

Mike looks at Sara with concern.

"But I think I'll have to ask Mike to do a bit more of work, though."

"About Cider? I saw it. Why don't you ask Blaze and Noir to help you?"

 "Ah, that's a great idea!"

 Sara claps her hands together.

"But do you think that black wolf will listen to my request, though?"

"Let's try asking, at least. I have a feeling Elma brandy might be running low, too."

"'Phantom Liquor' wasn't it called? Well, Mike and Grandfather didn't drink it, so maybe you don't need to add more."

 "Muuuh..."

Mike flops onto the bed, dejected. Sara chuckles and pats Mike on the head. Then, Pochi looks up at Sara with sparkling eyes.

"Hey, hey, don't you need my help with anything?"

"Pochi, you need to prepare fresh flowers every day until the last guest of the hunting tournament leaves."

"Tell me what and how many I need to prepare in advance, okay?"

 "Is that all?"

"Yeah, doing something for Sara's sake is always fun."

 "Thanks!"

Sara gently strokes Pochi's forehead with her fingertips.

"Sedrick and the others are still in their black panther forms today, huh?"

"Milady Sara's reception was unexpectedly good, after all."

"Is everything going to be okay today, just like usual?"

"That's right. Then, let's get started!"

Sedrick and his subordinate transform into a group of young men and boys in black uniforms.

"Sedrick... please don't sleep in that form."

 "Oh, sorry about that."

Sedrick gets out of bed, laughing.

"So, what's been going on with the Silt merchant guild since then?"

"There hasn't been a drastic change in just one day, but among the thieves who infiltrated the Sophia Merchant Guild's headquarters, there were also people from the Silt merchant guild. Some of them managed to escape."

 "I see..."

'The golem was exposed, and it's not like we were trying to hide it in the first place. It's pointless to hire human guards, anyway...'

 "Milady Sara?"

As Sara was called out, she snapped back to attention, and Sedrick, along with all the fairies, looked at her with concern. She had fallen back into her thoughts.

"Ah, sorry. I was just thinking about a lot of things."

"Is there some kind of problem?"

"Umm... I might have gone a bit overboard..."

 Sedrick tilted his head.

"As a fairy, I'm not sure if I truly understand, but if we're going to call Milady Sara's actions 'going overboard,' then it's not just 'a bit'..."

Mike and Pochi also agreed with Sedrick.

"Yeah, yeah. It was a huge mess."

"In a sense, Sara is broken through and awakened, right?"

As if stepping on an invisible platform, Mike left a trail of golden light as they jumped up and floated in mid-air, talking to her.

"Still, we think it's interesting, so it's okay, but Sara, are you worried about something?"

"I'm not worried yet, but I feel like I'll be in trouble soon. Remember when Fey taught me about a magic array that imbues magic stones with specific attributes? The country that used that magic array was destroyed, right?"

"But Sara wouldn't do something like that, would she?"

"I don't want to do that sort of thing. But people with power are different, aren't they? Just like magic stones, they'd want to utilize golems too. I might have gotten too full of myself."

Pochi is floating above Sara's stomach, lying on her back on the bed, and whispers in a gentle tone, shining golden light.

"Sara, are you scared that your creations will be used by others?"

"Yeah. In reality, the golems of Sophia Merchant Guild have combat abilities, even if they prioritize defense. There are definitely people in power who want soldiers that don't feel pain or hunger. We even get inquiries from other merchant guilds asking if we'll sell them golems."

"Can't you just not sell them then?"

"Uh-huh. It's okay if I can refuse, but if it's a decree from the king, I can't refuse."

"If you don't like it, you can just leave and go to somewhere. Fairies don't care about national borders, so we can follow you anywhere, right?"

"That's true, but honestly, there are too many important things in Grandchester that I've gotten involved in."

Finally, Sedrick waves his hand, and golden light pours down on Sara's entire body.

"Hey, I've been wondering, what's up with this golden light that fairies shed?"

"""It's a fairy's blessing (if I do say so myself)."""

"Can I hear about its effects?"

"It slightly improves your luck," Mike says, and Pochi adds, "It calms your heart and helps you sleep well!" Sedrick explains, "It makes it easier to come up with wonderful ideas."

 "Are they all separate?"

"I think each of the fairies believes what Sara needs is important. It's not like it has an overwhelmingly strong effect, but it has a decent amount of power, doesn't it?"

 "That's right. Thank you, everyone."

Sara smiled brightly and expressed her gratitude to the fairies.

 "I think, though..."

 Sedrick began to speak.

"If Milady have the power, wouldn't it be better if you didn't worry about the pressure from the royal family or other countries on Grandchester?"

 "Huh?"

"If Grandchester is important, then Milady Sara should protect it herself, don't you think?"

"But wouldn't that be treason against the royal family?"

"There's no need to oppose them. If they think 'Grandchester's mood will be ruined if we do this,' then that's enough. Milady don't have to be so pressured from the start. With Milady Sara's current abilities, it's not like it's impossible, is it?"

"I didn't plan on doing something so drastic, though..."

Then, Sedrick bowed his head respectfully.

"That's exactly what I mean. You can use magic like a Dragon, form bonds of friendship with fairies, and master magic of all attributes. If you wanted to, you could even reduce this country to ashes."

"That's terrifying. If I accidentally destroyed this country, what would I do?"

"We're fairies, so we'll just accept it as part of human nature, without any fuss."

'Maybe this is a turning point. Until now, I've been protected by Father and Mother in the Grandchester territory, but it's not like I can say that anymore. Whether it's Sara or Sophia, I don't know...'

"Hey, is there a fairy who controls space?"

 "Yes."

"If I form a bond of friendship, can they make instant transportation possible for me?"

"Milady Sara, I don't really recommend that."

"There's a reason humans can't take the fairy path."

"What kind of reason is that?"

"In the fairy path, we fairies don't have physical bodies. For Milady Sara to teleport, you would need to break yourself down into pieces using magic and then reassemble yourself at the destination while maintaining your sense of self. However, it's not easy for humans to maintain their sense of self without a physical body, and they often lose themselves and cease to exist."

"That's scary. But if I get caught physically, I want to be able to use magic to escape."

 "Is that so..."

Just as Sedrick replied, Sara let out a small yawn. It seemed Pochi's blessing was effective. Sara began to breathe peacefully and soon fell asleep.

"It seems she's fallen asleep. We still had a report to give, but let's do it again in the morning."

The fairies watched Sara's sleeping face for a while, relieved to see her peaceful expression, and quietly left the room.
