Chapter 188 Candy And Whip, Or A Carrot For The Horse
The next morning, Sara woke up to the sound of loud knocking. Judging from the light peeking through the curtains, it was probably still early morning.
She could hear Adam and Christopher's voices from the other side of the door, as well as Maria's voice trying to stop them.
"Maria, I'm already up, so it's okay to let them in."
Sara called out to the outside of her room. She wasn't exactly locking the door, but at least they had the decency not to barge in without permission. However, if they had just a bit more common sense, they wouldn't be bursting into a girl's room at this early hour in the first place.
"Good morning, Adam, Christopher!"
"Sara! Where's that chess set?"
"Let's play soon!"
Sara, who had used her wind magic to cut off a bit of their hair, smiled sweetly as she replied.
"First, let's exchange greetings!"
"Yes, good morning."
"Good morning?"
The two, whose hair was slightly shorter, returned Sara's greeting politely.
"By the way, don't you guys know it's rude to barge into a girl's room this early in the morning?"
"We're family, so it's okay!"
"Shut up, pervert. If Father found out you let your creepy cousin into my room, he'd freak out."
"No way, even I'm not that...at 8 years old..."
"No need to explain your weird fetishes in detail."
"Ah, okay."
Sara let out a deep sigh, even though it was morning.
"You guys don't have much magic power, and you can't even control it, so if you play with that, you'll end up collapsing like yesterday, won't you?"
"Yeah, it's fine. We'll stop after just one round, I promise!"
Adam hung his head in front of Sara. Christopher was nodding in agreement beside him.
"If you liked that so much, why don't you train while the adults are watching?"
""Okay.""
"But you need to finish today's study schedule first, and you can't play until you get a passing grade from the teacher, got it?"
"Ugh..."
Adam's face suddenly fell.
"Adam... if you don't use your head, you'll be in trouble in the future, you know? By the way, isn't your home tutor coming with you?"
"I fired them right before coming here."
"Why?"
"I made a calculation mistake, and they started whipping me!"
'Hmm... so even tutors whip students in this world, huh?'
"I don't think whipping is good either, but was your mistake that bad?"
"I only got 6 out of 10 questions wrong!"
"That's more than half! You're an idiot!"
"You fired your tutor, which means you don't plan to study while you're here, right?"
"Can't I just relax a bit, like during the hunting tournament?"
"You guys were always skipping school in the capital, weren't you? Anyway, you'll be studying with Scott and Blaze from now on. I'll ask Mister Thomas, their tutor, to take care of you."
"Aww, no way..."
"No chess for you either!"
"Fine..."
Adam slumped his shoulders in disappointment, but reluctantly agreed.
"Is that okay with you too, Christopher?"
"Sara, you can call me Chris. And, I'm not that against studying, okay?"
"Okay, Chris. It's good that you don't hate studying. Let's report to aunt during breakfast. Can you go back to your room first?"
As Adam and Christopher left the room, Maria and 2 other maids began assisting with the morning preparations. Sara thought to herself while getting dressed.
'Those kids might not know since they collapsed first, but if they're going to make a Golem battle ring, they'll probably get hooked... The adults were just as enthusiastic, after all.'
Just thinking about it was giving her a headache. However, at the same time, she could smell a huge amount of money involved. The aroma was extremely enticing.
'But let's not think about that for now...'
Thanks to Pochi, Sara was able to relax and get some sleep, and she realized that she wasn't as pessimistic as she was last night. She figured that worrying about things that hadn't happened yet was pointless, so she decided to be optimistic about it.
'If someone's going to put pressure on me or people around me, I'll just use my full power to blast them away! With a bag full of gold!'
Sara knew that she was being a cheat, but sometimes she didn't even realize it herself. It was likely that she could destroy a country with just her magic, without even needing her "gold bag." After all, she could wield Dragon-class magical power.
Even if she used magic to cook meat at the dinner party, she hadn't thought about what would happen if she used it on people. If she had a more direct thought process, she would have considered military uses when she created the Golem.
Even the backend system of the Golems at the Sophia Merchant Guild was overkill, just for operating the Golems. If she learned various things from the Magi System (the Three Eastern Scholars), she might be able to make frighteningly accurate predictions someday.
Sara wasn't unaware of the possibilities of the Magi System. However, she hadn't thought about how it would turn out if it was applied to military aspects. This was a problem with Sara's personality, but it was easy to imagine that things would take a drastic turn if someone were to attack Sara or those around her.
In short, making Sara angry was like stepping on a dragon's tail. The fairies knew this, so while they worried about Sara getting stressed, they didn't feel threatened for her safety.
"Milady Sara, the preparations are complete."
Sara, looking at her reflection in the mirror, was slightly surprised when Maria called out to her.
"This dress, isn't it something made for everyday wear in a women's village?"
"Yes, it is."
"But it's made with satin, organdy, and tulle, isn't it?"
"The child who designed this dress saw a picture of a princess's dress in a picture book and arranged it in a childish style. The weaver and dyer sisters who saw the design prepared a new fabric to match it."
"Ah, that boy, right? I think he should be taught design. And, of course, I'll change into this."
"Looks like an angel, doesn't it?"
"Are you going to make an angel appear at the breakfast table or something?"
The maids all made disappointed faces at the same time.
"What's with the long faces?"
"We don't want Milady Sara to lose to Lady Chloe, after all!"
'Eh, is that the reason?'
"So, I guess I have no choice but to go with this for breakfast, but change into something else when I get back. I have to go to Maiden's Tower and I'll probably get into Secret Garden too. It's okay if it's not a Horseback Riding outfit, but can you make it a simple cotton dress?"
"Alright, I'll prepare the gingham check apron dress! The same designer made this one too. It's really cute!"
Sara doesn't dislike cute or beautiful clothes, but she thinks there should be a bit of balance between being "on" and "off". However, for some reason, Sara's closet has been filled with nothing but adorable designs lately.
'I wonder? Do Chloe's maids have some kind of rivalry or something?'
Sara thought this was strange, but she headed towards the conservatory where breakfast was prepared.
