Chapter 189 It's Better To Learn
The Conservatory had the same members gathered as last night's dinner.
"Good morning. There are a lot of people today, aren't there?"
"Good morning, Sara."
Robert responded brightly. The other members also returned short greetings.
"I didn't mean to be late, but I ended up being the last one."
"I guess I went to bed early last night."
Marquis replied with a hint of embarrassment.
"Ah, I see. Has everyone's magical power recovered?"
"By the way, Sara, did you do something?"
Edward looked at me seriously and asked.
"Do what?"
"The speed of my magical power recovery is fast. Last time Icollapsed from magic exhaustion, it took 3 days to recover, but this morning I woke up feeling refreshed. It feels like my magical power has increased a bit, but I've never heard of one's magical power increasing after adulthood."
"No, I didn't do anything. Is it just Uncle imagination?"
Just then, soup was served in front of Sara.
"Thank you."
Sara smiled brightly at the young apprentice butler who served her, and he blushed slightly and bowed.
The butler, who was checking on the boy's work, wondered if he should warn him not to show his agitation later. Today's Sara looked more beautiful than usual, so it might be unavoidable.
"As it turns out, I was thinking the same thing."
"Yeah, me too."
Marquis and Robert also chimed in, saying the same thing.
"Is there such a large amount of recovery?"
"That's right."
"I really don't remember doing anything. I didn't do anything, so..."
'The common point among these 3 people is... that they all collapsed from magic exhaustion yesterday?'
"Are Adam and Chris doing okay? Do you seem to be recovering your magic?"
"A little more sluggish than yesterday, but I don't think I'm recovering that much."
"I don't think I've recovered that much either."
"Ah, that means you can't play chess today."
""Eeeeeeeee!""
"What will you do if you collapse again?"
Seeing the two of them looking so disappointed is kind of pathetic, but it's not like they can just drop everything and play.
"Adam and Chris, who also collapsed from magic exhaustion, don't seem to be feeling that way. So, what's the other common point?"
But Adam and Christopher were being stubborn and arguing loudly.
"We're definitely recovering!"
"It's refreshing!"
"I get it, I get it. Let's observe while we study later. But don't overdo it, okay?"
""Yeah!""
Elizabeth, who saw this, was genuinely surprised. Her sons, who had never shown any enthusiasm for studying, had suddenly changed their attitude.
"Ms. Sara, didn't you say they're going to study now?"
"Yes, that's right. They fired their previous tutor just before coming here, so I'll have Scott's tutor take care of it later."
"Scott, the son of the knight commander?"
"Yes. He's also preparing for the Academy entrance exam next year, so it's perfect timing."
"You said 'Scott and the others', are there more?"
"Sir Jeffrey has adopted a talented magician boy. He's a wonderful boy with exceptional talent. His name is Blaze, and he's the same age as Chris, so they can motivate each other, don't you think?"
"And, but wasn't he originally a commoner?"
"Aunt, if you say that, Scott and I are commoners too. You're being pretty harsh, aren't you?"
The atmosphere in the conservatory suddenly dropped to freezing point.
"Oh, I didn't mean to look down on him... I just think their level of study is different, that's all."
Elizabeth hastily followed up on my words.
"I see. You do have a point."
"Don't you think so?"
"Adam and Chris can't possibly win against them, can they?"
"Huh?"
Sara's remark made Elizabeth's shoulders quiver slightly.
"Scott's academic ability is more than enough to get into the Academy next year, apparently. Blaze was initially struggling with reading and writing, but it seems he's caught up with Scott pretty quickly."
"That's right. They have an excellent private tutor, after all."
"Well, their tutor is a former bureaucrat from the royal palace, so there's no doubt he's excellent. And he's a commoner, too. He's the grandson of Viscount Tyler, though."
Elizabeth suddenly stood up with a clatter.
"What?! Thomas Tyler?!"
"Yes. Do you know Mister Thomas, Aunt?"
"There's no noblewoman in the capital who doesn't know him, I suppose!"
'I see. This means Mister Thomas is in trouble.'
"Aunt, I'm sorry to say this, but... it's embarrassing. And your face is red too."
"Oh, I'm sorry."
Although Elizabeth tried to cover up her fluster, she couldn't hide her agitation and slowly sat back down in her chair.
"If you know the reason why he had to leave the capital, you understand that there are things that shouldn't be said, right?"
"Indeed, that's true."
I'm glad my aunt wasn't involved in that commotion."
Indeed, Elizabeth wasn't involved in the incident where Baron's daughter fell in love with Thomas and went wild. But she might have spread some rumors. Thomas was incredibly popular, after all.
'Was he like an idol from a past life or something? Seriously, Mister Thomas was a bureaucrat, and that's quite a hassle."
"Anyway, while we're here, I'll have him teach Adam and Christopher. After that, the two of them can play chess, and that'll also help with magic control training. If you can use magic, that'll be a bonus, right?"
"Uh, I knew Blaze was a magician, but Scott too?"
"You didn't know? Both of them can use fire attribute magic. I think they might develop other attributes soon too."
"Mister Thomas as well?"
"It's impolite to reveal someone's secrets when they're not around, but apparently, he can use earth and wood attribute magic. And since I'm training with him, my mother--I mean, Miss Rebecca--is also teaching me magic. So, my healing magic is coming along quite well, isn't it?"
Sara smiled elegantly at Elizabeth. Rebecca, standing next to her, was smiling in the same refined way--a perfect ladylike smile.
Of course, Elizabeth was smiling too, but her lips were twitching slightly.
"By the way, what about swordsmanship?"
"What about Scott and the others?"
"Normally, Sir Jeffrey teaches us directly, but he might be too busy, so we might have a substitute teacher instead."
Then, Adam's eyes sparkled with excitement.
"I want to learn from Sir Jeffrey! I've asked Grandfather many times to let me learn swordsmanship from him, but he refused, saying I couldn't leave Grandchester territory!"
Sir Jeffrey, who has won many tournaments in the capital, is a hero to the nobles' children. As a knight of Grandchester, he's also someone Adam brags about.
"Well, if he's here, he can give you some pointers."
"Yes!!"
"But if you whine, he'll shave your head on the spot."
"Okay! ...Wait, does that mean Sara will train too?"
"Of course."
"You're a girl, aren't you?"
"Well, that's true, but there are female knights in the capital too."
"But they're commoners, right? Ugh!"
A small ice pellet hit Adam's eyebrow with a "thud" sound. It didn't hurt much since it was just a light tap, but Adam overreacted as if it was painful.
"You're not really learning, are you? Is your head just for show?"
"Why are you getting angry just because I said 'commoner'? It's the truth, isn't it? Ugh!"
Another ice pellet flew.
"Hey, Adam...you're a noble only because your ancestors made some kind of contribution to this country. You're not great just because of who you are, okay?"
"But I'm the eldest son of the Grandchester Young Marquis!"
Sara let out a deep sigh and slumped her shoulders.
"It's pathetic to measure a person's worth just by their bloodline. At least, Adam right now seems to only have that to boast about. What's even more problematic is that he doesn't think it's embarrassing. A person who hasn't accomplished anything on their own, only bragging about their ancestors' achievements, is just ridiculous. Ugh, I'm so tired of this conversation from last night. Can't you learn anything? Are you stupid or something?"
It seemed like Sara was talking about Adam, but her words were severely criticizing his parents. Then, Christopher whispered from the side.
"Sara, you should learn too. Adam can't learn, that's why he's stupid."
"Chris, you're saying your own opinion for once."
"I'm surprised myself. I thought no one would care what I said, and as long as I followed Adam and Chloe, I wouldn't get scolded and it would be easy. But if I keep doing the same as Adam, I won't be able to play with Sara anymore."
"Do you want to play chess that badly?"
"Uh, that's part of it, but it seems like there will be a lot of fun things to do if I'm with Sara."
'Huh? Aren't they saying the same thing as Scott and Blaze?'
