Chapter 194 At The Knights' Headquarters
Marquis, after finishing breakfast, headed to the Knights' Headquarters and called for Jeffrey, the Knights' Commander.
"Did you call for me?"
"A list of participants for the Hunting Tournament and a list of accommodations. This time, the Crown Prince of Roisen and Prince Andrew will be accompanying us. There's a possibility that the schedule for the regional inspection may change at the last minute. Of course, both of them will have knights escorting them, but we need to double-check the security measures as well."
"I understand."
Jeffrey confirmed the few documents handed to him and instructed his vice-officer to review the security arrangements.
"And Jeffrey, after the Hunting Tournament is over, would you mind taking a look at Adam's swordsmanship?"
"That's fine, but isn't Adam being mentored by a Royal Guard knight?"
"Adam originally wanted to be your disciple, and it seems he wants to learn from you while he's here. It's okay, Sara and the others will be there too."
Jeffrey thought for a moment, stroking his chin, before ordering everyone to leave. After a while, only Marquis and Jeffrey were left in the office, and Jeffrey spoke up.
"I don't think it's a good idea for Miss Sara to learn swordsmanship. While it might be a good stimulation for my son, Sir Adam might only end up feeling inferior."
"Adam will benefit from it. He's been looking for a fight with Sara anyway."
"That's incredibly reckless."
"He's been spouting weak excuses, so he'll get his first bald spot in Grandchester."
"Hahaha. Sir Adam's hair is like a candle in the wind."
Jeffrey laughed with a fierce grin.
"Miss Sara will soon surpass Scott in strength if she continues to build up her physical power. In fact, Sophia's abilities are already on par with Daniel, her escort. Although Daniel has an advantage in actual combat experience, Miss Sara's potential is immense. I wouldn't say it's easy to win against her. Of course, I don't intend to lose either."
"That's something I'd like to try out myself."
"Don't overdo it, or you'll strain your back."
"Don't treat people like they're old."
"Miss Sara is truly exceptional. Does she have any weaknesses?"
'A weakness of Sara's, you say...'
"If I had to say, it's her quick-to-anger personality."
"I see. That's true. As things stand, she'll likely catch the attention of the royal family and other countries. Does she really intend to keep her abilities hidden?"
It seems that Sara's reckless behavior is a source of concern everywhere.
"It's likely that she'll eventually be forced to reveal her true nature somewhere. She can't keep her abilities hidden forever. If the royal family makes unreasonable demands on Sara, Grandchester will take her side, even if it means going against the royal family."
"I think Miss Sara could win even without Grandchester's support."
"Of course, that's true. That's why we'll take her side."
"That's like betting on the winning side, isn't it?"
"Naturally. We have a duty to protect the people of Grandchester. It's foolish to confront the Dragon head-on. Edward and Robert are aware of this, but if Adam doesn't understand, Grandchester's future will be in danger."
The 8-year-old girl is already being treated as an outsider.
"That makes sense. So, it's about swordsmanship, huh?"
"If we don't try it out, we won't know how Adam reacts, after all."
"Well, even if we lose an arm or a leg, Miss Sara can heal us right away, so that's reassuring."
They're too influenced by Sara. It's not reassuring at all.
"If Miss Sara takes the path of conquest, we, as the vassals, can just follow her and not worry about the difficulties."
"That's exactly what will happen if she doesn't do something troublesome."
"Haha, that's certainly true if it's Miss Sara."
However, in the next moment, Jeffrey's face turned grave.
"Your Excellency the Marquis, Grandchester may be targeted by another country, I suspect."
"Did you receive a message from Sara too?"
"Yes, I received a secret letter."
"In reality, I don't know what's going on. Sara hasn't grasped it either. But, there's a merchant guild that bought my family's crest and lent a large sum of money to Edward, and that's all."
"But, the main branch of that merchant guild is in Lombart, Coastal Union, and the wife of the third prince who gave up his right to the throne of Roisen was also from Lombart, right?"
"That's right."
"The previous riot also involved Roisen. It's unnatural to think these are unrelated."
"I still can't say for sure. Even if they're related, why would they target Grandchester?"
"There's too little evidence, so I have no idea."
"But, considering that the Crown Prince of Roisen is staying in Grandchester, it's likely to spark a fire. This hunting tournament requires more caution than ever, you understand?"
"Ah, got it."
