chapter 235 Golem's Sophia

Chapter 235 Golem's Sophia

"Sara can make golems, and the golems outside are really good at talking naturally, right? I don't understand how that works, but can't we just make a golem that looks like Sophia and move it like that?"

"Even Mr. Paracelsus tried to create a golem that was close to being human... or rather, cute, but he couldn't do it. It must be really hard."

Floating gently in the air, Mike lightly waved the tip of its tail and touched Sara's head just a little.

"I think both Sara and Paracelsus are overthinking it. How do you think we fairies change into human forms?"

 "Is it through magic?"

"Exactly. Humans and animals are made of things from the ground and magic elements, so if we gather them and use magic to put them together, it works. We fairies are like beings that have a self because of gathered magic elements, so we can take form like that, and if we stop using it, we can break apart."

Mike quickly transformed into a small beautiful girl and then back into a cat.

 "Hmm?"

"Sara, you make golems using earth magic, right?"

 "Yeah."

"Well, we don't really think about attributes like humans do. We just strongly imagine the form we want and use magic to create our bodies. But, I guess... if we think about it, we might have a lot of water attributes. But I think we also use earth and wood attributes too."

"I understand what Mike is trying to say, but can I really do that?"

"When Sara changes into Sophia, I don't see how it's different from using magic to wear a dress. You're analyzing and reconstructing the target, right?"

"Oh! I see what you mean!"

Sara was keenly aware of her appearance as Sophia and began to observe herself as if analyzing. It was likely that her non-elemental magic appraisal was activated, but Sara was using it without much awareness.

After a while, the image of herself as Sophia appeared in her mind. She instinctively understood what she was made of and began to recreate the details of each movement in her mind.

'Magic has no attributes, it only has direction. Since it is made up of things in this world, I just need to assemble the same shape with magic...'

Before she knew it, a golem that looked exactly like Sophia was completed right in front of her. This time, she had only created the shape, so the core magic stone was not embedded, and it was just a doll that smiled gracefully.

 "I did it!"

"I can't believe it. It's just like Sophia!"

"Wait, does that mean you can make a Miss Sara version too?"

The maidens stared intently at the golem of Sophia.

"If a magic stone embedded like the other golems, will it be able to respond like Sophia?"

"It seems possible if I connect it to the magic system, Mike. To pursue a special personality that reflects Sophia's behavior patterns, it might be better to have Sophia observe the other golems regularly."

Mike perched on the shoulder of the golem Sophia, poking its cheek with his front paw, and nodded in satisfaction as if pleased with the texture. It seemed that the feel was also fine.

"But don't forget. You can't create a 'soul' with magic. That is a power only the Creator God possesses. No matter how much personality we give the golems, it's not a soul."

"You're saying something complicated. I don't really understand what a soul is."

"Even fairies don't know. Because we don't have souls."

 'Really? Is that true?'

"We don't have souls, so we're attracted to the shine of human souls. And if we're lucky enough to make friends, we can change our appearance to match that soul."

"So, if a person who loves war makes friends with a fairy, that fairy would also start to like war?"

"That's right. And it can go the other way too. If the soul's owner strongly wishes to be a certain way, the fairy will lend its power to help. If the shine of the soul increases, more fairies will gather around it."

"So, it can change for better or worse, right?"

"Noir said before, didn't he? Fairies can't understand good and evil or justice. That's something only those with souls can think about."

"But souls aren't just for humans, right?"

"Yes. Most living beings have souls. But only a limited number have self-awareness, and some beings can share the same soul among multiple individuals."

"Then why are fairies only attracted to humans?"

"Soul grows. Even if a living being loses its body, the soul doesn't disappear; it just moves to a new body. By repeating this, the soul matures and shines more. Fairies are attracted to that shine. In fact, there are many fairies who have formed bonds with dragons."

"Ah, I think I get it."

'It's such a fantasy image to see fairies flying around a dragon.'

"So, does that mean the souls in humans and dragons are mature souls?"

"Basically, that's true, but sometimes an immature soul can inhabit a being. We call such beings 'God's beloved child.' Most of the time, they are given special abilities by the Creator God and become beings that bring about significant changes in the world. However, since their souls are not very mature, they attract few fairies and don't live very long. By the way, they can be surprisingly short-sighted in their thinking and can go on rampages without deep contemplation. For example, about 1500 years ago, a beloved child dragon went on a rampage because it got angry when humans tried to steal its eggs. It burned down that country and about 3 surrounding countries."

 "No room for discussion?"

"Not at all. Plus, in its rage, it accidentally crushed other eggs, and when it came to its senses, it was so sad that it stopped eating and just died. Also, since dragons have strong marital love, its partner died with it."

"...It's unfortunate, but couldn't something have been done?"

"That's just how beloved children are."

'Was it the Creator God's will to let humans steal the eggs and cause destruction? If so, that's a terrible way to do things. I can't imagine liking such a Creator God.'

"But you know, no matter how mature a soul is, it's always somewhat vague and unstable. There isn't a single fixed form, and each has its own personality. People's values differ completely based on the era, region, and religion they were born into, yet the soul that inhabits a person struggles and tries to solve things rationally at different times. And strangely enough, it can be swayed by 'affection,' 'desire,' or other mysterious emotions, betraying the rational answers it came up with. To put it in human terms, it's very irrational and full of contradictions."

"Ah, I kind of get that. It's not about logic."

"Fairies don't act based on logic, so it's hard to understand."

Alicia the Alchemist Girl, who was listening to Mike's story, suddenly realized something.

"Sophia, you can give golems countless personalities. They can even seem like they have emotions. That's because the magic system is designed that way. But it's hard to make golems act in absurd or contradictory ways."

 "Is that so?"

"Well, for example, the golems in Maiden's Tower have learned that 'being touched is unpleasant,' so they dislike being touched carelessly. But the golems in the main store are more tolerant of contact because they often interact with customers. Even though they are connected to the same magic system, their responses change based on different conditions."

 "I see."

"But for both types of golems, their important job is security, right? So when they catch suspicious people, even if the person struggles and touches them, their mission takes priority, and the golems don't feel unpleasant emotions. They don't even feel uncomfortable when they're holding alchemists."

"They can't afford to feel uncomfortable all the time."

"Exactly. But the moment they relax their guard, they realize that something unpleasant happened during their mission, and they start to feel disgust towards the person. This isn't a contradiction; it's because they have clear criteria for judgment. And once they feel disgust towards someone, that person becomes someone to be wary of unless they learn something new."

 "New elements?"

"I think there are many things to consider. It might be fastest for us to teach that 'this person is not a bad person.' Hmm... for example, I think we could set it up so that the golem Sophia responds with 'I don't like being touched,' but maybe we could add that 'if it's a good-looking guy, she lowers her guard.'."

"Stop it! That makes it sound like she's a looks snob!"

"Hehe. With so many beautiful guys around, a little bit of good looks won't faze her."

Alicia the Alchemist Girl smiled at Sara, who looked like Sophia, with a grin.

"Thanks to the vast data learned by the magi system, the golems seem to have a pseudo-personality. But you know, even if they have individuality, they are still rational, and even if they seem to have emotions, they are just mimicking emotional expressions. Above all, they don't have contradictions or absurdities."

"But if the golems have individuality, their answers might change, right?"

 "Yes, they might."

 "Isn't that a contradiction?"

"The magi system consists of independent entities, and they evaluate each other's answers as third parties. One might agree while the other 2 disagree. However, just because an answer is denied by others, they won't discard it. Even if others deny it, they will keep it as an answer that came from within themselves."

"This is complicated... So, it means that the way things are perceived changes based on the information and criteria given, which also changes the answers, right? So, keeping all answers as independent rather than conflicting is correct?"

 "Exactly!"

"The magi keep generating hostile information against the other 2 and often take votes to make decisions. They are learning things at an incredible speed, which is why the golems have diversified so quickly."

 "That's a bit scary, isn't it?"

"I was thinking about requesting a golem to assist me and Amelia."

Then Mike turned around and took on a human form again.

"I don't really understand the complicated stuff, but how can you make this Sophia golem like the outside golems?"

"I think we need to rebuild it. The golems connected to the magi system move by linking their core unit with the golem's magic circle. This unit contains a magic stone for power, a magic circle for magic replenishment, a magic stone for internal processing, a magic stone and magic circle for memory, a magic stone and magic circle for controlling sound information, a magic stone and magic circle for controlling visual information, and a magic stone and magic circle for communicating with the mage system."

Alicia explained, but it seemed Mike didn't understand at all. Even Sara only understood about half of it, so it couldn't be helped.

"So, we need to create the core unit for the Sophia golem first?"

"That's right. Since it's different from the other golems, it might take a little time."

"That's fine, no need to rush. Let's prioritize getting your health back."

"I'm okay because Sara used healing magic on me."

"That's not okay. Your strength hasn't come back yet."

Since Sara and Amelia the Pharmacist Girl stopped her, Alicia the Alchemist Girl had no choice but to lie down properly on the bed.

"I'll be quiet and sleep for now, but I think I'll feel better tomorrow."

"Then let's get some sleep to prepare for tomorrow."

 "Okay!"

Amelia the Pharmacist Girl is a very skilled pharmacist, so the medicine to recover her energy had a tiny bit of a sleepy ingredient in it. After a while, regular breathing sounds started to be heard, so the other 3, except for Alicia, left Alicia's room.
