Volume 1 Chapter 49 More Menu Options
People heard that there's a restaurant that serves a mysterious dish that can cure White Moon disease.
It's not like a lot of people come at once, but little by little, people with White Moon disease and their families have started visiting my restaurant.
Because of this, I'm getting fresh octopus from Mr. Tsukuyomi and having Sir Roxas make it super soft every day.
The soft octopus is needed for the soft octopus risotto.
Sir Roxas comes every day to soften the octopus and ends up having breakfast before he leaves.
So, I asked him if he could soften the octopus for free in exchange for breakfast.
But he said he wasn't short on money and ended up softening the octopus for free while giving me extra money. Sir Roxas is really rich.
"But living every day with octopus is a bit tough..."
I always want to provide soft octopus risotto for people with White Moon disease.
Cleaning the slimy octopus every day is a bit hard.
Realizing this, I thought of preparing a batch of octopus in advance and storing it.
Once it's prepared, I can keep it in the ice magic stone storage for a few days, so I might not have to fight with octopus every day.
But as Lobelia Diner House, I also want to add more items to the menu.
"Mr. Lucian, what do you think about the new menu? We have 3 types of sausages, bread, and octopus. Maybe fish, meat, or vegetables? Personally, I'd prefer something that doesn't require much work, so I'm not really into octopus..."
"Lydia, your voice calms me down."
Next to Sir Roxas, who was elegantly eating the breakfast set of 'Early Bird Fried Eggs, Realistic Sausages, Fluffy Bread, and Vegetable Soup,' Mr. Lucian quietly sipped his coffee.
Mr. Lucian used to come here almost every day, but I hadn't seen him lately.
The knights seemed busy, too. Today, he finally came back. Alone.
He said it was his first day off in a while.
But even so, he didn't have his usual energy and wasn't trying to recruit anyone for the knight order.
I started to worry, so I decided to talk to him about the new menu. After everything that happened, Mr. Lucian is a regular, and if he didn't compliment my cooking, I probably would have just stayed home crying all the time.
So, when Mr. Lucian isn't cheerful, I get a little worried.
"...Did something happen? Did you get dumped by a girlfriend? Or maybe all 5 of your girlfriends dumped you at once..."
"...Isn't that just your own fault?"
Using a knife and fork, Sir Roxas neatly cut his fried egg into small pieces and ate them, swallowing carefully before he spoke.
"Five girlfriends? That's a lot. If you meet one each day, there are only 2 days left in a week for free time. ...You're quite energetic, Lucian."
Sir Roxas also said this with a tone of admiration.
Indeed, treating 5 lovers equally, Mr. Lucian might be amazing.
"...Sir Roxas, please don't take it seriously. Lydia, I don't have a girlfriend. Why do you have such a misunderstanding?"
"Mr. Lucian, when I walk around town, I often see many women clinging to your arm, saying, 'Sir Lucian~'..."
I answered while pinning the flyer for the 'Autumn Festival's Annual Mushroom Picking Contest' that was handed out in the shopping district to the restaurant wall.
"It's a misunderstanding. They just come to me because... I've protected them when they were about to be attacked by monsters, or I've been on guard duty for them, or I've saved them from bad guys. Anyway, we're just acquaintances. Not lovers."
"Lucian. You should perish."
"Mr. Lucian... it would be good if you perished..."
My voice and Sir Roxas's voice overlapped.
After giving Mr. Lucian a cold look, Sir Roxas started cutting a realistic sausage into bite-sized pieces with graceful movements.
"Lucian. You're so realistic."
"What kind of insult is that? Sir Roxas, the Girard family's sausage is a mythical beast!"
"Well, I'm generally satisfied."
Both Sir Roxas and Mr. Lucian like sausages.
I wonder if men really like meat.
Thinking about that, I finished putting up the mushroom picking contest flyer and checked from a distance to make sure it wasn't crooked.
Yep. Perfect.
"Mr. Lucian, the women Mr. Lucian helped really like you, I'm sure."
Even I can tell, but does Mr. Lucian not notice?
No wonder the older ladies who come to eat Mr. Lucian's realistic sausages have such strong feelings, like a grudge or obsession.
So, it's unrequited love.
It makes my heart race a little. I love stories about romance.
They make me feel happy.
"I don't plan on getting a girlfriend."
"Why not? You're popular with women. If Mr. Lucian said you liked them, many women would be happy, I'm sure."
"...Lydia. I like you."
"That kind of thing is called shallow, shallow... I worried for nothing about Mr. Lucian being a womanizer..."
I puffed out my cheeks.
I wish he wouldn't say things like that.
Actually, I think he should say those words to other women, not me.
Sir Roxas somehow dropped a knife on the table and hurriedly picked it up. His movements are graceful, but he's clumsy.
When Mr. Lucian stood up, he came over to me and looked at the mushroom picking flyer.
"Isn't the flyer too low?"
"Is it low? Should it be higher?"
"Ah. Lydia is small, after all. I'll fix it."
Mr. Lucian took down the pinned flyer and put it up a little higher.
Since Mr. Lucian is tall, he can easily reach places that I can only touch if I stretch.
On his day off, Mr. Lucian isn't wearing his knight uniform. Instead, he's in simple black clothes: a black shirt and black pants. When he moves his arms, I can see the muscles in his back.
I guess women really do like muscular guys.
"I felt better when I saw your face, Lydia. Really, if I don't come to Lobelia Diner House, my day doesn't start."
"Isn't that the kind of thing that makes more unhappy women...?"
"I'm honest. Always. ...But it's true I haven't been feeling well. Maybe it's mental. I haven't had much of an appetite."
"Today it's just coffee, Mr. Lucian. You move around a lot for the knights, right? You should eat properly."
"Yeah, you're right. Thanks, Lydia. You're kind. And, you've stopped crying so much since I last saw you."
"Y-yes... A lot has happened. Have I been that busy?"
"Ah... There are rumors going around that Lydia saved people from the White Moon disease. Lady Francois seems to be getting competitive and has been visiting orphanages and hospitals more often. I've been dragged along for security every time. Honestly, I'm tired of it."
Mr. Lucian sighed, looking tired.
Then he quietly said, "Mushroom hunting sounds fun..."
