Volume 1 Chapter 77 The Sleeping Kirschtein Castle
Inside the castle we arrived at using Sir Ciel's teleportation magic, everyone was sitting on the floor, sound asleep.
"...It feels nostalgic."
As I walked through the castle's corridor, Mr. Lucian said this.
In Mr. Lucian's arms, Eiris continued to cry softly.
"Mr. Lucian, are you okay?"
I wondered if he was remembering the cruel memories we had seen in the castle.
When I asked out of concern, Mr. Lucian shook his head lightly.
"...You're worried about me, huh, Lydia? Thank you. I didn't think I would get to talk to you again like this. I've been deceiving you all along."
"I thought Mr. Lucian was a womanizer and didn't really trust you, so I'm fine."
"R-Really...?"
"Half of that was a lie... I was worried. Mr. Lucian, you're my friend."
"Are you willing to take risks for just a friend?"
"Friends are important..."
I looked up at Mr. Lucian and smiled.
That's what friends are for.
──Someone taught me that. Who was it? I feel like I can remember, but I just can't.
"Is this the kitchen? ...It's pretty damaged. Leave it to me."
There were signs of Eiris having dug into the castle.
Rubble and holes were scattered throughout the castle.
The place that seemed to be the kitchen was also in ruins, with ingredients scattered on the floor.
When Sir Rail raised his hand, the broken kitchen and ingredients instantly returned to their original, clean state.
The cracked eggs and squished apples were back to normal. The fresh, shiny fruits and vegetables looked delicious.
"Honestly, I wish I could restore the entire broken town, but with my magic, I can only fix one room at a time. ...Besides, I don't think restoring everything is necessarily a good thing, so this time it's special for the princess."
"Thank you, Sir Rail. I'll start cooking right away."
I said while looking around the kitchen.
The castle's kitchen was much larger than the Rest priest's kitchen.
There were 9 stoves lined up, and the pots were big. There was a magic stone oven and a mixer too.
I had always wanted to cook for cute girls and children.
I think the food I make for them should be cute as well.
Eiris was scared, angry, and crying.
──I'll make the dishes that have been missing from my restaurant.
"Is there anything I can help with?"
"Yes... um, could Sir Ciel boil some water? I'm thinking of making tea. I'll make it sweet with milk."
When I asked, Sir Ciel filled the kettle with water and put it on the fire.
Sir Rail searched for tea leaves and prepared cups.
Feeling Sir Roxas's gaze on me, I asked, "Sir Roxas, could you please keep Eiris company?" He sighed and said, "I suppose I have no choice."
Mr. Lucian is sitting in a chair with Eiris on his lap.
Sir Roxas takes a small squirrel plushie out of his pocket and holds it out in front of Eiris.
I have that plushie too.
It's handmade by Mr. Leavis, the deputy of Saintwise.
It's so cute that I display it in my room.
I wonder if Mr. Leavis gives them to everyone he knows.
Eiris stares at the plushie with curiosity. For a moment, she quiets down, but then she starts crying loudly again.
"Be quiet, kid. Can't you stay silent for a bit? I didn't cry like you when I was your age."
"I remember Roxas being quite the crybaby, though."
"That's not true. You're remembering it wrong, brother."
I set the steamer on the stove and put a small pumpkin inside it.
I call over Sir Roxas, who looks very grumpy in front of Eiris, who is crying while holding the squirrel plushie, and ask him to keep track of the steaming time.
I take out the steamed pumpkin and scoop out the soft inside.
I mash the scooped-out pumpkin until it's smooth, then mix in sugar and fresh cream.
As it starts to thicken, I add milk, and then I stir in the well-beaten eggs.
"Lucian. I think we need to talk to His Majesty again about the people of Kirschtein."
Sir Ciel says to Mr. Lucian while pouring hot water into a teapot filled with tea leaves.
"...I can't do anything about deep-rooted feelings, but the suffering of the people of Kirschtein is also the fault of the Margrave Wisteria family. I have a responsibility as the son of Bianca, the eldest daughter of the Margrave Wisteria family."
"Ciel. This doesn't concern you. I plan to live quietly while protecting the people of Kirschtein from the Moon Soul Cult."
"That won't change anything. Lucian. You should hide your position and return to being the leader of Leonsroar. To change the country from within, you need to be inside. ...I don't think this is the end."
Sir Ciel quietly says while looking at Eiris in Mr. Lucian's arms.
I return the finished pumpkin paste back into the hollowed-out pumpkin, place it on a baking tray with water, and put it in the preheated oven.
I ask Sir Roxas again to keep track of the time.
A sweet aroma that calms the heart fills the restaurant.
When I take the baking tray out of the oven, the pumpkin paste inside the pumpkin is jiggly and baked perfectly.
I top it with whipped cream and place a raspberry from the kitchen on top of the cream.
"It's done! A jiggly whole pumpkin pudding that even small children can eat!"
Yes──this is something that has never been at Lobelia Diner House before.
A sweet dessert that makes children happy.
I've been thinking a lot about getting full until now, but sweet things are also important for a relaxed heart.
"Looks delicious, princess. Pumpkin pudding... I've never seen it before."
"Sir Rail, don't you know about pumpkin pudding?"
"That's right. There are many dishes that I don't know about that you make, princess."
Sir Rail said this with a look of admiration.
I placed the pumpkin pudding on a plate and set it in front of Eiris.
I added milk and sugar to the tea that Sir Ciel made for me and placed it next to the pumpkin pudding.
Eiris, still holding her stuffed toy tightly, opened her eyes wide and stared intently at the dessert in front of her.
