Volume 1 Chapter 93 Sir Ciel's Jewel
The beast trapped in the mirror lifted its head and looked at me.
A sharp pain shot through my head.
I feel like I know that beast.
"Tell me, holy beast. You're giving my sister the power of Alexandria, aren't you? Transfer her power to me!"
Francois shouted from the other side of the mirror.
In response to Francois's anger, multiple lightning strikes hit the other side of the mirror.
The lightning burned the beast's body.
"...Stop, no, please stop...!"
The beast jumped from the shock, its fluffy white fur singed, letting out a low growl.
I shook my head at the cruel sight.
Because of my movement, the handcuffs dug into my wrists, making my arms feel like they were pierced by many needles.
The chains clinked loudly, a harsh sound in my ears.
"Please don't do such terrible things...!"
Torturing a small animal.
I can't bear to watch.
"Sister, you were favored by the holy beast and became a saint, right? How did you receive that power? Tell me. If you tell me properly, I'll save its life."
"I... I don't know... I don't know anything."
Really, I don't know anything.
I've always thought I had no magical power, and I believed there was no such thing as a mysterious power.
This is the first time I've met the beast in the mirror, called a holy beast.
I don't know about holy beasts.
I don't know.
...Really?
"Don't play dumb. You know, don't you? Even if you cry, no one will come to help you, sister. The foolish men you proudly show off don't know this place."
"I'm not showing off... I'm not, they're important, my friends...!"
They insulted Sir Ciel and the others.
It angers me much more than being mocked myself.
I glared at Francois. That's all I could do.
"Friends. Ridiculous. Ah, I want this to end quickly. If I had the power of a saint, everything would go well. I would rewrite their memory to say you were a liar, sister, and I would become the saint."
"...Transferring magical power is usually impossible. However, just as the magic of the jewel people resides in the core of their bodies, human magic likely resides in the heart."
My father said this with a pained expression.
Francois clapped her hands together, her eyes shining with excitement.
"The heart! Yes, the heart! I shouldn't have killed you. When people eat your cooking, the magic effect appears. By eating, I can accept the magic. So, I just need to eat. Yes, eat. Just like mother, eat humans..."
"Francois...?"
"Eat, be eaten, eat, mother... I will do that to my sister and fulfill mother's wish..."
Francois looked down, muttering something in confusion, then raised her face and stared at me intently.
"Father, hold my sister down so she doesn't go wild."
"Ah, Francois. As you wish."
My father came up behind me and grabbed both of my arms.
Even though I could hardly feel my hands anymore, his grip brought a dull pain.
"Father, stop it! Let go!"
"Sister, it's useless to scream. I said I wouldn't kill you, but that's not true. You will belong to me. Offer your body to me, and let me eat your heart."
"Don't come near me! No..."
Francois was getting closer.
I didn't really understand what she was saying. I'm not food, and I can't believe Francois could eat me.
Francois stopped right in front of me and placed a finger on my chest.
A creepy feeling crawled all over my body, and I started to shake.
I'm going to be killed.
I'm going to be eaten.
Francois looks human, but she's something else. One of the witch's daughters──.
"Help me, someone..."
"Even though you're a saint, all you can do is cry and ask for help. You're really useless. A failure. You have no worth, sister."
Francois said this while mocking me in a sweet, cat-like voice.
Her gentle whisper was laced with a chilling coldness.
"Pumpkin pudding!"
Eir-Eir jumped out from between my breasts and splattered onto Francois's face.
"Eir-Eir...!"
I didn't notice when she had been hiding.
Sometimes, Eir-Eir seems to fade away, as if she's inside my body.
Maybe she really is inside me.
"Don't get in my way, bird!"
Francois grabbed Eir-Eir and threw her against the wall.
Eir-Eir hit the wall like a ball and slid down to the floor.
"Eir-Eir!"
A black hand reached out from the mirror that trapped the holy beast, grabbing Eir-Eir and pulling him into the mirror.
"...Why does everyone get in my way? I have to fulfill my mission. But now, there's no one left to bother me. Sister, give me your heart."
"No, don't come near me...!"
A bright red mouth appeared on Francois's right hand.
Inside that mouth, a slimy red tongue peeked out, lined with sharp teeth.
The wide-open mouth was about to bite into the skin over my heart.
I felt a wave of intense pain coming, and I twisted my body, screaming──.
"What...?"
Francois took a step back.
The gem Sir Ciel gave me in my pocket started to shine brightly.
It lit up the dark, prison-like room, making me forget the pain and suffering──my body felt light.
"Sir Ciel..."
When he gave me the gem, Sir Ciel said, "The magic of the gem will protect your life."
It really did protect me.
──I have to escape.
If I stay here, I will be eaten by Francois.
I have to run.
But how?
"Father, help me... Father, Father...!"
"Lydia..."
I called out for my father, who was still holding my arms.
He is──my father, right?
A father who rejoices at his daughter's death... there can't be one, no matter how much he hates me, right?
"Lydia... Lydia, I..."
"Father..."
"You are my father, Father. My father and mine alone. Wouldn't you be happy if I became a saint?"
"Francois... but, I... I, Lydia..."
"Useless. Oh, useless...!"
Father removed his hands from my arms and stepped forward to shield me.
From the hole in the palm of Francois' right hand, a white thread extended, wrapping around Father's body.
The thread tightened around his neck. A groan of pain could be heard.
"Stop, Father will die... Francois, stop..."
"Anyone who gets in the way should die. That's what Mother wishes."
"Stop!"
I dislike Father, but he tried to help me.
No matter what kind of father he is, he is my father──I don't want anyone to be hurt, suffer, or lose their life...!
"Ms. Lydia!"
A large, glowing magic circle appeared in the center of the room.
Sir Ciel, who materialized from the circle, called my name.
Upon seeing me, he widened his eyes in surprise and then directed a fiery gaze of anger towards Francois.
Sir Rail, who appeared alongside Sir Ciel, quickly cut the thread entangled with Father using a knife, while Mr. Lucian helped me by slicing through the chains binding my hands with his sword, preventing me from collapsing.
"Curse of Black."
With a short incantation, several thin chains emerged from Sir Ciel's feet, entwining Francois' body.
Sir Roxas took Father from Sir Rail and, saying, "I'm sorry, but I can't trust you," bound his body with ropes.
"Lydia, are you okay, Lydia...!"
I heard Mr. Lucian's concerned voice.
Looking up at his face, which seemed on the verge of tears, I smiled.
"I'm fine... Eir-Eir is more..."
Eir-Eir and the holy beast are still trapped in the mirror.
I could see the holy beast lying motionless and Eir-Eir rolling over inside the mirror.
"Francois. Return the holy sword. Otherwise, I will take your life."
Sir Stefan calmly pointed his sword at the restrained Francois.
