Volume 3 Chapter 16 Attempted Murder In The Salmon Stew Case

In the white, creamy soup, there are big chunks of vegetables.

The onions are large, and the salmon is also big.

It feels like a big piece of salmon is floating on top of the soup, and when I scoop it with a spoon, the salmon falls apart easily.

The taste of butter, the fresh flavor of dill, and the soft taste of milk spread all over my mouth, and when I put a big piece of salmon in my mouth, I feel happy.

To eat together, we wiped the cooking counter clean and brought in chairs.

Next to me is Mr. Lucian and Sir Stefan.

Across from us are Sir Rail and Sir Roxas, and Sir Ciel is sitting diagonally across from Eir-Eir, who is sitting right in front of him.

Arjuna, my dad, is sleeping soundly on a round stool.

He sleeps a lot. I guess it's because he's a dog, so he gets sleepy.

"It's delicious! This might be the first time someone has cooked for me. Thank you, I'm so happy!"

I swallowed a piece of salmon and thanked them for making the meal.

"That's great! I'm glad you like it."

Mr. Lucian said with a kind smile.

 "Mr. Lucian made it, right?"

"Well, everyone was trying to cook, but first... Sir Roxas tried to cut the onions, and for some reason, the knife flew out of his hand and stuck into the wall."

 "It stuck in the wall...!"

"Don't worry, princess. I fixed the wall with my magic."

Mr. Lucian said something shocking, so I instinctively checked the wall.

There doesn't seem to be any knife marks. Sir Rail must have fixed it properly.

"I'm sorry, brother. I used up all my magic fixing the Great Temple and the town, and I caused trouble."

 Sir Roxas said apologetically.

"Don't worry about it, Roxas. At least it was the wall. If the knife had flown at someone, I would have thought you were trying to eliminate your rivals."

"I would never do something like that."

"If a Salmon Stew Murder Incident happened, I would be a detective, not a hero. The culprit would be Roxas."

"Brother, I would never do that!"

"Sir Roxas, do you have that much resentment against someone here?"

I want everyone to be friends and get along.

I stared at Sir Roxas, and he dropped his spoon.

 He looked really shaken.

Is he nervous because I figured out he might have bad feelings?.

"No, I don't have any resentment. Besides, I prefer to do things the right way."

 "Resentment in the right way..."

 "That's not what I meant."

"...Roxas, I remember you were engaged to Francois. Why are you so close to Lydia?"

"Your Highness, that's a bit wild. I guess saying you're close to her fits pretty well."

Sir Stefan's words made Sir Rail cover his mouth and giggle.

Sir Rail is on his third bowl of soup, eating it with bread.

"Sir Stefan, Sir Roxas is my friend. We just became friends recently."

 "I see, Lydia..."

When I explained, Sir Stefan changed his serious expression into a smile.

I thought he was angry, but I felt relieved when he smiled.

"Roxas was sentenced to sit in a chair for the crime of throwing a knife, but next, Your Highness..."

 "Sir Stefan...?"

"Yes. Your Highness is skilled, but when I asked him to peel the onions, the onions disappeared..."

 Sir Rail looked down sadly.

"I was peeling them, but for some reason, they vanished."

"Probably the same thing happened with bamboo shoots, cabbage, and lettuce. They probably disappeared too, Your Highness."

"No, I was just peeling them like you asked!"

"Because of the crime of making the onions disappear, Your Highness has been sentenced to only do the dishes."

"Washing dishes is fun, Lydia. I did it for the first time, and it was enjoyable."

Sir Stefan looks happy. That's good. He doesn't seem to care too much about the onions disappearing.

"I got tired trying to turn back the spoiled onions and the damaged wall to their original state. So, Ciel cut the ingredients for me."

"Yeah, I can cut them without any problem."

While Sir Ciel wipes Eir-Eir's stew-covered body with a towel, Eir-Eir had his face buried in the soup bowl.

Sir Ciel is cutting a big piece of salmon into bite-sized pieces and putting it on a plate for Eir-Eir.

"So, Lucian did all the seasoning and cooking. So, this stew feels like it was made by Lucian and Ciel."

"When we camp during expeditions, we also cook. I can make at least simple dishes. I just say I'm the best cook among us, but everyone tried hard."

Mr. Lucian said this with a wry smile after Sir Rail mentioned it.

I think it was quite a challenge with flying knives and disappearing onions.

The salmon stew is delicious, but I'm happy about the thought of them cooking for me.

"It's delicious, Mr. Lucian. Sir Ciel, you're good at cutting vegetables too. ...But I'm really happy that everyone cooked for me."

 I see.

I've been cooking with resentment all this time.

After I started to recover a bit, I wanted people to enjoy my cooking, so I made it with care.

That was fun, and it made me happy when they said it was delicious.

The opposite is true as well.

I'm happy that they made food for me.

Their kindness makes me feel good.

"Sir Stefan, ...I have made a lot of friends. So, you don't have to worry."

"I see. But, Lydia. Stop naming the sausages after everyone."

 "Um, okay, I don't really understand, but I guess that's a no."

 "That's right."

 "I'll be careful, Sir Stefan..."

Sir Stefan is strict about that.

I nodded. I need to think of a new menu.
