Volume 3 Chapter 34 Memory Of Famine, Tale Of The Immortal

Volume 3 Chapter 34 Memory Of Famine, Tale Of The Immortal

I got a warm shawl from Sir Ciel and a small Eir-Eir shawl from Mr. Leavis.

Eir-Eir is sleeping soundly right now, so I plan to show it to him later.

I sip my coffee with lots of milk and take a bite of the egg tart.

The sweet, creamy filling spreads in my mouth, and I can't help but smile.

"It's delicious, Sir Ciel! It's sweet and tasty!"

"Is it? I'm glad to hear that."

"Please eat some too, Sir Ciel. I know it sounds weird to say that about something I got, but..."

 "Thank you, I will."

Sir Ciel picks up a small egg tart with his long fingers and puts it in his mouth.

I can see a little red gem on his tongue through his thin lips.

There are also red gems scattered around the collar of Sir Ciel's long-sleeved outfit after he takes off his robe.

I've never touched them, but I wonder if they feel hard.

Since they're gems, they must be hard and cold.

 It's a bit mysterious.

 "It's sweet, for sure."

"It's sweet and has a vanilla smell. There must be vanilla beans in it; it's really good. The whipped cream is tasty, but the custard is good too. The other day, Sir Stefan told me it wasn't good, so I was thinking of changing the restaurant menu."

 "Oh, really?"

Sir Ciel smiled a little awkwardly.

"But the menu named after you guys was popular because it was easy to understand. So, I was thinking of adding fish, sweets, and cute dishes. Sir Ciel, you like spicy food, but I feel like you also enjoy sweet treats."

"Is that so? ...Is that a compliment?"

"Yes! You seem kind and fluffy, but maybe spicy food is better, like your super spicy hot pot..."

"I don't really love spicy food that much..."

 "Really?"

"My taste buds are a bit dull because of the gems on my tongue. Your cooking is very delicious, but I feel like stronger flavors help me taste things better."

"Sir Ciel... is that why you only eat solid food?"

"Not exactly, but I'm not very interested in eating."

"But you buy me egg tarts. You tell me to take a good rest."

I felt a bit sad and then a little angry, puffing out my cheeks.

"...You should also sleep in like me, build snowmen, and munch on cookies while daydreaming."

"Being with you makes me feel relaxed. I'm getting enough rest."

 "Ugh..."

He patted me like a little kid, so I glared up at Sir Ciel with my cheeks still puffed out.

I really wanted to talk to him about some things and ask for advice.

But I hesitated because I thought it might make him rest even less.

"Ms. Margaret told me to come to you. Is there something you want to talk about? Something about the witch's daughter or Sylphina?"

"...That was the plan, but I decided not to."

 "Why not?"

"Because I feel like if you get busier, you'll take even less care of yourself."

"Ms. Lydia... Thank you. But I think it's very important to investigate the witch's daughter and Sylphina. It connects to protecting this country and your peace."

 "But..."

"I'm strong, so I'll be fine. And... well, if I get tired, can I come to you to rest? Ms. Lydia can keep running the restaurant as usual... If I can come there to rest, I would feel very happy."

"Is it about coming to the restaurant to eat?"

"Yeah. You cook for me. You care about me. You worry and get mad, and sometimes you look like you might cry. Then, you smile at me. ...Just that makes me really happy."

"I'm worried. I'm really worried. Because we're friends..."

"Yeah. As a friend, ...I want to help you. I want to keep you safe. So, can you talk to me?"

Sir Ciel's serious eyes look straight into mine.

In his beautiful red eyes, I can see my worried face reflected.

I feel bad for always relying on Sir Ciel.

But still, it makes me feel safe.

"From Ms. Famine's memories, it seems like Sylphina was married to God Theobart. ...Then, Goddess Alexandria showed up, and since she's a goddess, God Theobart took care of her for the country..."

I remember the memories Ms. Famine showed me and tell Sir Ciel in bits and pieces.

"That sounds like the story the people of Kirschtein believe. They say Sylphina was from Kirschtein, and Kirschtein was ruled by a king. She was with Theobart, but he betrayed her──Alexandria and Theobart took her land."

"Sylphina was really from Kirschtein... but she loved God Theobart a lot, and she seemed very sad when he changed his heart for Goddess Alexandria."

"Then, something happened, and Sylphina became a witch and was trapped in the red moon."

"Yeah. ...I don't know what happened next. She was sad and suffering from being betrayed. That's where Ms. Famine's memories ended."

"...Maybe the memories after that are with the two other witch daughters."

"Eir-Eir and Ms. Famine told me, so maybe that's true."

Sir Ciel crosses his long arms and looks down.

"Finding the witch daughters is the most important thing, I guess."

 "Um... and then..."

 "And then?"

"Um, my dad... Arjuna is an immortal... Sir Ciel, do you know what an immortal is?"

"Immortal. ...It means someone who doesn't die, literally."

"I wish my dad would tell me, but it's a secret... it seems like he doesn't want to share what he knows. My dad is immortal, so even when Ms. Famine was rough with him, he was okay."

"...An immortal, huh. ...About holy beasts, it's said they only appear before those with the bloodline of the Rest priest family who have Alexandria's power. I asked the Head Priest to show me the records left by the priest family, but there isn't much detailed information."

"I think my dad just didn't write anything because he was just there..."

"He's not just there. If he's here, it's cute. He has a healing effect."

Suddenly, my dad sits up and says that.

"Dad, have you always been a dog?"

"There are times when I'm not a dog. I take the form that the saint desires. I'm a holy beast. Also, it was a secret that I could talk. I ended up talking because Lydia looked so pitiful."

 "...I see."

After saying that, my dad buries his face in his fluffy hands.

I can't tell if he's pretending to sleep or really sleeping, but if there was a quiet animal nearby, it would just be recorded as a holy beast being close by.

"An immortal... since my dad is hiding it, it must be something important."

"...If there's anything I can do..."

"Ms. Lydia, just live your normal life. If rumors spread, many people will want to visit you here, but if you have any trouble, I think it's a good idea to go back to the Rest priest family for a while."

"Yeah. If things get really tough, I might try that."

"I'm going to look for the witch's daughter while also checking out the undead."

"I'm worried... Sir Ciel, I think you might not be sleeping."

"...I'm not very good at sleeping, that's true."

I had a good idea, so I looked up at Sir Ciel and smiled.

 Then, I patted my knees.

 "Huh?"

"...Sir Ciel, today is a day to rest, so please take a break. When I was younger, I wanted my mom to let me rest my head on her lap. I wanted her to sing me a lullaby. I felt jealous when I saw FraFra getting that."

"...Resting your head on someone's lap, huh?"

"You haven't done that either, right, Sir Ciel?"

 "Yeah, that's right."

"If you want, go ahead. You might be able to sleep a little."

 "...No, um, that's a bit..."

Sir Ciel covered his mouth with one hand and looked away.

His usually pale cheeks were slightly flushed.

 Maybe he was feeling shy.

Sir Ciel, who usually shows little emotion, was blushing.

"Uh, um, I'm sorry... I just..."

"...Thank you, Ms. Lydia. This is my first time, and I'm a bit flustered... and also, I have some expectations."

I was surprised and then realized that my suggestion was really embarrassing, so I looked down, my face turning red.

Sir Ciel mumbled something quietly, then took a deep breath to calm himself.
