Volume 3 Chapter 4 The Hero Arrives Late

Volume 3 Chapter 4 The Hero Arrives Late

The light of the holy sword Laevateinn shines brighter, piercing the sky.

It seems to reach even the white moon floating high above, and the sight of giant spiders crawling over the Great Temple should be terrifying, yet there is something sacred about it.

 (It looks like God Theobart...)

In Eir-Eir's memory, that was── the memory of the witch Sylphina.

Noble, beautiful, divine, the ancestor God Theobart.

 Sir Stefan carries that bloodline.

(Sylphina and God Theobart looked so happy...)

The witch's daughter, Famine, said she would become a saint.

Could it be── the dream of Sylphina, who continues to suffer under the red moon?

Because the goddess Alexandria appeared and took God Theobart away?

Is that why she manipulated Francois to do the same thing?

Pretending to be a saint, she took Sir Stefan from me.

For revenge for what was done to her.

To gain the heart of Sir Stefan, who carries the blood of God Theobart.

(If that's the case, it's very lonely.)

Can love gained by manipulating hearts be called real love?

I still don't really understand what love or romance is. But, rather than crying every day about hearts I can't reach and my own unhappiness,

I prefer the present where I can cook happily and hear people say it's delicious.

 I have friends, and I have Eir-Eir.

I don't know everything about everyone, and there's still so much I don't know.

Because there's so much I don't know, sometimes we misunderstand each other and feel sad.

But little by little, I'm understanding more, and I realize that I'm not the only one──

Others are living with their own burdens too.

I've started to feel that I want to help someone.

I've begun to wish for my friends to smile.

(If everyone around me is just my puppet, moving exactly how I want them to...)

If they tell me everything they want and do everything I ask,

there might be something fulfilling in a world where everything goes my way──

But in the end, isn't that the same as being the only one in the world?

 "Sir Stefan...!"

A spider's leg swings down at Sir Stefan, who stands on the back of another spider.

The shining holy sword easily cuts off that leg, then tears into the spider's back.

With a dying scream, the giant spider writhes its body.

Sir Stefan, about to be thrown into the air, jumps to another spider's leg.

A spider many times larger than Sir Stefan tries to crush him, bite him, and stab him.

Sir Stefan is knocked away by one of the spider's legs and floats in the air.

It was so quick that there wasn't even time to blink. Sir Stefan's body was thrown into the air and fell onto the ruins of the Great Temple.

 Below him was a spider.

Its dark back was torn open, revealing a large mouth lined with jagged teeth.

Sir Stefan pointed his sword straight down.

The holy sword's dazzling light pierced the spider, and it writhed in pain.

 "Your Highness...!"

 "Sir Roxas, Sir Stefan...!"

Sir Stefan's body, thrown into the air, was falling onto the rubble.

The height from the sky to the ground was considerable.

 If he fell──he wouldn't survive.

A magic bird, glowing white and created by my father and the priests, flew toward Sir Stefan.

 "It's too late...!"

Hearing my father's anxious voice, I hugged Arjuna and Eir-Eir tightly in my arms. Sir Stefan was going to die.

(If I use my power, I can save someone who's dying...!)

I could heal any injury or illness.

Just as I was about to rush toward Sir Stefan, a large magic circle appeared in front of me.

From the magic circle, a man in black clothes wearing a fox mask appeared, standing tall and shouting loudly.

"Lucian, rescue His Highness! Ciel, take down the spider. That's the hero's job!"

 "Understood."

Following the orders of the fox-masked hero, Sir Rail, Mr. Lucian quickly transformed his necklace into a black dragon-shaped flying device.

The shining birds created by the priests got caught in the spider's web and disappeared.

Mr. Lucian's Fafnir flew toward the falling Sir Stefan at an incredible speed, weaving through the spider's legs and webs.

"Princess, sorry to keep you waiting. Heroes are usually late, but I apologize for scaring you. It seems Roxas did a great job protecting you, well done."

"Yeah... I'm just glad you returned safely, brother."

Sir Roxas looked happy. I was happy too. Hearing Sir Rail's bright voice made my anxiety and chest pain fade away.

"Is that Famine? There are quite a few of them."

"Famine can control people and change their appearance into monsters. That must be──."

 "People...?"

Sir Ciel's words gave me a bad feeling, and I couldn't help but murmur.

Ahead of me, Mr. Lucian picked up the falling Sir Stefan and flew high into the sky on Fafnir.

The spider couldn't fly, so it could only stretch its legs and couldn't catch up.

"Now that we know, we have one thing to do. We'll take down the remaining spiders that His Highness left for us. We'll weaken them enough not to kill them and restrain them. Princess, please prepare a feast for the spiders."

 "Y-Yes...!"

If they ate the food I made, the spiders should return to their original forms. Nodding at Sir Rail's words, I realized that I also had something I could do.

"Is that spider connected to the Great Temple...? If so, it's likely that it's a priest possessed by Famine. There might also be others who got trapped inside the temple. We will save everyone we can."

Sir Rail easily jumped over the rubble, running towards the spider as if he were flying.

A beautiful circular magic circle appeared at the tip of Sir Ciel's palm.

 "Head Priest, create a barrier."

 "Understood, Ciel."

I could feel Sir Ciel's magic filling the magic circle.

I can't sense other people's magic, but the sheer amount of power in that circle was overwhelming.

 "Blue of the Calamity Fire."

With a short chant, the bundles of white threads scattered by the spider towards Sir Rail and Mr. Lucian suddenly ignited fiercely in blue flames.
