Volume 6 Chapter 20 Steal, Cling, And Cross-dress
It's like Mr. Lucian has the charm of a former prince.
His golden hair shines in the light from behind, and he looks really stylish in a fancy black cape and a coat with gold chains, plus sturdy leather boots.
I know it's just acting, but if this were a play like the one Sir Stefan took me to, it would be such a heart-fluttering moment right now.
It feels like we're at the climax of the show.
"Lucian, what do you want?"
Sir Marx looks like a bad guy and yells at Mr. Lucian.
But it's all part of the act, so everyone is really good at this.
I'm just standing there, hands clasped in front of my chest, feeling nervous.
"I came to get Lydia back. I can't stand the thought of her being taken by Sir Roxas. Let's run away together!"
Mr. Lucian walks straight up to me and grabs my hand.
"Mr. Lucian..."
"Lydia... it's okay. Even if the Girard family is after us, I will protect you!"
Oh. Mr. Lucian's voice is louder than usual.
His cheeks are a bit red, probably because he's embarrassed. I thought he'd be more confident, but he seems a little shy.
"I love you. Because I couldn't tell you, you left me. I won't make that mistake again."
"Uh, um..."
Hearing someone say they love me, even if it's just acting, really hits me in the feels.
My heart is racing and my face feels like it's on fire, a bright red flush spreading across my cheeks as I try to process Mr. Lucian's declaration of love.
I can't look directly at Mr. Lucian's handsome face, so I look down, feeling flustered.
(I've never been told I'm loved before...)
If it weren't for this situation, I'd be super excited.
Almost kissing Sir Roxas and then getting a love confession from Mr. Lucian (even if it's all acting) makes me wonder if I'm a little too easy to fall for this stuff.
I don't even know myself anymore.
Maybe it's because I felt rejected by Sir Stefan and ended up resenting love and guys.
That made me want love even more, I guess.
If acting can make me feel this way, maybe it's not a good thing.
Like Mx. Margaret said, maybe I should try love.
At this rate, I might become a girl who gets easily tricked by bad guys just because they whisper sweet words to me...!
While I'm worrying about all this, Mr. Lucian easily lifts me up.
"Lucian... w-what is going on...?"
Sir Roxas stumbles over his lines. He's not very good at lying, is he?
But he looks a bit shaky, like he's really nervous.
"Wait a minute!"
Sir Stefan's voice, usually calm, sounds really energetic this time as it echoes in the chapel.
He rushes in from the entrance, kicks off the floor, and does a spin before landing next to me.
What a grand entrance! I think Sir Rail might have coached him on this.
Sir Stefan blushes and hides his face with his hands, then shakes it off and looks at me.
He kneels in front of me, looking more serious than ever, while I'm being held by Mr. Lucian.
"Lydia, please wait... don't leave me...! I'm sorry for everything, so please come back to me...!"
Right now, I feel like I'm about to say, "I'm going home!" and leave, but I'm also feeling what it's like to be a wife being chased by her husband.
And we're not even married yet.
"Even Your Highness...! What is going on here?!"
Sir Marx is really angry. Lady Irfimia is covering her face with her hands and crying.
No, she's not crying. Maybe she's trying not to laugh.
Lady Irfimia said she's bad at lying, and it shows on her face. Just like Sir Roxas.
"I heard you're marrying Roxas, and I couldn't just sit still, so I came here. Lydia, I still like you...! I can't stand the thought of cute you being taken by Roxas... Come back to me. If that's not possible, at least let me escort you to your groom as your father!"
Sir Stefan seems to be getting emotional while talking, and his eyes are getting teary.
My dad, who's been holding me in his arms, said with a bit of a pout, "I'm your dad."
Eir-Eir and Ms. Famine are cheering him on, shouting, "Pumpkin!" "Tatin!"
Lately, everyone's been getting along well.
"Your Highness, calm down. You're not Lydia's father."
"I feel like a father... or a brother would be fine... Anyway, I want to watch over Lydia as she grows up... I love you, Lydia..."
"Sir Stefan..."
Is this all an act? It felt real at some point, though.
The chapel is getting more and more chaotic.
This is where it all ends, right?
According to the plan, it's supposed to happen here.
"Wait, Roxas...! Don't leave me...!"
He really showed up just as planned.
Elder Brother Chrisrain, wearing a long black wig, makeup, and a foreign-style dress, came in.
And at the entrance of the chapel, Peach Bun the Swan peeked in with a big face.
Maybe it's confused by its master's craziness.
"Am I just a game for you, Roxas...!? Who is that woman?!"
Elder Brother Chrisrain dramatically crouched at Sir Roxas's feet and started to cry.
Sure, Elder Brother Chrisrain is pretty, but he doesn't look like a woman because he's so muscular.
His arms and legs sticking out from the dress are all ripped. He has a big chest. He must be hiding something.
What's he hiding? A watermelon...?
"What's going on, Roxas! Do you have a girlfriend?!"
Father Marx is still pretending to be fooled.
Sir Roxas held his head with his hands like he has a headache.
