Volume 10 Chapter 1 Creamy Oyakodon And Everyone As Usual
Slice the onions thin and fry until soft, then add chicken pieces. Pour in sake to remove any strong smells, season with mirin, dashi broth, and soy sauce. Simmer to create a delicious, slightly stronger-flavored sauce. Add sugar if desired for a thicker sauce.
──Simmer, bubble, sizzle.
When chicken cooked, pour in a bowl of lightly whisked eggs. Cook until egg is creamy and flavorful.
The eggs start to cook, solidifying into a light yellow and white from the edges.
The sweet and savory smell of soy sauce and mirin wafts through the Lobelia shop.
"Sir Ciel, please prepare a deep plate... um, a bowl. Mr. Lucian, could you serve the rice?"
As I ask, Sir Ciel, who was boiling water to make hojicha, uses magic to gently float a bowl from the cupboard and sets it on the counter.
Mr. Lucian scoops rice from the shiny, freshly cooked rice pot into the bowl.
"Pumpkin pudding."
"It's a bowl, Eir-Eir."
"Pumpkin pudding, pumpkin pudding."
Maybe the word "bowl" was funny to Eir-Eir. She flaps her little wings happily above my head.
I cover the frying pan where the eggs are simmering.
"1, 2, 3, 4."
"Pumpkin."
"5, 6, 7, 8."
"Tarte Tatin."
"9, 10, 11, 12."
"Fried horse mackerel!"
As I start counting, Ms. Famine and Nel-Nel come over, curious about what's happening.
After counting exactly 30 seconds, I lift the lid to reveal glossy, half-set eggs.
The chicken and onions are wrapped in the shiny, fluffy eggs.
Since it's been simmered down, the liquid has reduced a bit, and the seasoning is strong because the eggs will be added and poured over the rice.
I gently pour the eggs over the rice that Mr. Lucian served, then sprinkle some mitsuba on top for color.
The heat from the rice and eggs wilts the mitsuba.
The bright yellow of the eggs and the green of the mitsuba look vibrant and delicious.
"Done! Everyone, here's the fluffy, creamy oyakodon!"
Yeah. It turned out great. The eggs are not too hard, not too runny, just perfectly creamy and shining.
"Some people prefer their eggs a bit firmer, but this is creamy. Is that okay?"
"Ah. No problem. Just Lydia's presence is already melting my heart like the eggs in this oyakodon."
"???"
With a smile on his beautiful face, Mr. Lucian took my hand and said.
Mr. Lucian always says sweet things, but I didn't quite get this one.
Like me, an oyakodon?
"Ms. Lydia. You don't have to think too deeply about it. What Lucian said is like a little chirp."
"Pumpkin pudding."
"Yeah. Just like Ms. Eiris's pumpkin pudding."
"I'm always serious, just trying to express my feelings to Lydia."
After Sir Ciel said that, Mr. Lucian crossed his arms and mumbled, "Maybe that example was a bit forced..."
"This is called oyakodon, right?"
Sir Ciel said while carrying the tray with the finished oyakodon.
"Yes. It's a bit cruel, but since the eggs come from the mother chicken, we eat both together, that's why it's called oyakodon."
"I see."
"Also, salmon and ikura rice can also be called oyakodon."
"Really? The names of dishes are quite mysterious."
Sir Ciel said, sounding impressed.
Around Sir Ciel's neck, there's a strange animal that looks like a cat, shining emerald green.
This little one brought Sir Ciel, who was on the verge of death in Edelstein, from the town to us.
At that time, it looked like a big, beautiful 'Fairy dragon' shining brightly.
But now, it has turned back into a small animal.
"Lydia, is this table okay?"
"Moving the table and eating together feels like a party, it's fun, princess."
"Do you want me to help carry it?"
"Roxas, you can just sit and relax."
"Roxas, sometimes it's more peaceful to just sit down."
Sir Stefan and Sir Rail are moving the tables at Lobelia, gathering them together in the center.
A cute little star-patterned cloth is spread over the table, with spoons and tea set out for everyone.
Sir Roxas is sitting quietly in his chair, as Sir Stefan and Sir Rail told him to.
Dad is sitting on Sir Roxas's lap, acting like a weight to keep him still.
"Thank you. Today we have oyakodon and clam miso soup, but maybe we should have something fancier since we're all together..."
"Not at all. I like Lydia's cooking."
"That's right, princess. Oyakodon and clam miso soup is the best combo."
"I'm used to fancy food at the Girard house. I prefer dishes you can only get at Lydia's restaurant."
With Sir Stefan and the others encouraging me, I smiled.
Mr. Lucian and Sir Ciel set the oyakodon and miso soup on the table.
Mr. Lucian gently placed a hand on my waist, urging me to sit down, while Sir Ciel casually patted my hair and said, "Thank you, Ms. Lydia."
"Have you both not been acting boldly lately?"
"Because we're adults now."
"We don't need to hold back anymore."
Pointed out by Sir Rail, Mr. Lucian and Sir Ciel said this casually.
I wondered what they meant as I took a seat.
Eir-Eir and Ms. Famine, Nel-Nel also perched cutely on the table.
Since Nel-Nel is a bit bigger, I lifted him up and placed him on my lap instead of the table.
Months have passed since the chaos in Edelstein.
Without even having time to talk about that moment, I had returned to my daily life.
The palace was busy preparing for Sir Stefan's coronation, and it had been a while since everyone gathered like this──not that it was unusual, but there was a reason for this meeting.
Dad said, "It's time to share my secret with everyone."
I asked Sir Ciel and Mr. Lucian to help gather everyone together. I didn't know what Dad's secret was, but I understood it must be something important.
