Volume 10 Chapter 22 The Hidden Things Of Saintwise
As they popped out from my inside, Eir-Eir and the others were gazing up at the fireworks, their eyes sparkling with excitement.
While I was feeling all fluttery in Sir Ciel's arms, Mr. Lucian and Sir Roxas were saying things like, "Why are you hugging her like it's normal?" and "Ciel, don't get too cocky just because Lydia isn't on guard." Sir Ciel didn't seem to care much and replied, "The dress looks cold, you know."
Just a moment ago──after such a passionate confession from Sir Ciel, I almost wondered if it was all just a dream.
Maybe it was just a fantasy I created because I longed for love.
But that can't be true, right?
What should I do?
The fireworks are so beautiful, but I can't focus.
Sir Ciel's words keep swirling in my head. The heat in my body won't go away, and I can't calm down.
The last firework bloomed into a big flower, covering the two moons floating in the night sky.
At the same time, Eir-Eir and the others and Ms. Famine, Nel-Nel, created by summoning magic, floated up and waved their hands happily, disappearing into the night.
"Pumpkin!"
"Tarte Tatin..."
"Fried horse mackerel!"
It's so strange that even though Eir-Eir and the others are right here, the same versions of them are being summoned.
Eir-Eir and the others waved their hands curiously, just like the ones in the sky.
As the last firework brightly lit up the world, darkness fell as if the lights were suddenly turned off.
Sir Ciel's magic orbs gently illuminated us, and Sir Rail said, "Ah, that was fun. Shall we head home now, everyone?"
"Lydia. Thank you so much for today. We all appreciate it. Please be careful on your way back."
After thanking Sir Stefan for his words, we started to head home.
We were going back to the Rest Priest Family and would be staying for a while.
I thought about going back to Lobelia, but since my father would cry, I decided to stay a little longer.
On the way back from the rooftop to the Saintwise research building, I kept glancing up at Sir Ciel, who was holding my hand.
When he noticed my gaze, he smiled gently, and my face instantly turned red.
The inside of the Saintwise research building was dark, so he probably didn't notice my flushed face.
Ah, what should I do? I feel so restless.
He said he liked me, but I haven't properly replied.
That must be a bad thing, right?
I like Sir Ciel, but is that feeling really love?
My heart races so much that it might be.
If I told Sir Ciel that I like him too, would that mean I'd marry him?
Walking hand in hand──well, we've done that before, both now and in the past.
And then, yeah.
Saying good morning and having breakfast together, then saying "thanks for today" and having dinner together.
Kissing, too.
Sleeping together in the same bed.
And then──would we have kids? I don't know how that works, but if we become a couple, we'd probably have kids, right?
"Pumpkin pudding!"
"Tarte Tatin!"
"Fried horse mackerel!"
──Even though we're not even lovers yet, I was spiraling in those thoughts when Eir-Eir and the others started making a ruckus, flapping around and shouting loudly.
"W-What's wrong, everyone? Is something happening...?"
Could it be that my embarrassing daydreams got through to them?
Are Eir-Eir and the others saying, "Calm down, Mom," and getting mad at me?
No way.
That would be super embarrassing.
"...Huh?"
Mr. Lucian, who had been looking grumpy for a while now, furrowed his brows and stopped.
"Pumpkin pudding!"
"Tarte Tatin!!"
"Fried horse mackerel!!"
This time, everyone jumped off my body and started climbing all over Mr. Lucian, making a fuss.
Mr. Lucian covered one ear with his hand and used the other hand to cover his face.
"Ugh, so loud..."
"I'm sorry, Mr. Lucian... It's noisy, isn't it? Everyone, what's going on? Calm down...!"
Mr. Lucian is usually kind to Eir-Eir and the others, but this is just too loud.
When I apologized, Mr. Lucian shook his head, looking a bit pale.
"It's not that, Lydia... Suddenly, the voices..."
"Suddenly, voices?"
I tilted my head.
"By the way, dad said Lucian has the power to hear monster voices."
"He did say that."
As if picking up on Sir Ciel's words, dad suddenly appeared above my head, where Eir-Eir and the others usually sit.
It's cute having dad there, but thinking of him as an adult man makes it a bit weird.
"I don't know why it's happening now, but suddenly I can hear the voices..."
"Maybe jealousy and anxiety activated the dormant parts of your brain? It's like a limiter release, Lucian."
"Is that really the reason...?"
Mr. Lucian shook his head in disbelief.
Then he grabbed the noisy Eir-Eir and the other in both hands and hugged them tightly, looking around at our faces.
"...Eiris and the others are saying not to leave here. They say there's a sister here."
"...Sister? Eir-Eir and the others are 4 sisters, so the 4th one, the sister..."
Is there a witch's daughter in the Saintwise research building?
But nothing strange is happening in the palace.
No one has been sad or on the verge of losing their life like before.
Sir Ciel crossed his arms and looked down.
"...A witch's daughter is here?"
"Don't you have any idea, Ciel?"
"Isn't that Fairy Dragon different?"
Sir Rail asked, pointing to the Mer-Mer on Sir Ciel's shoulder.
"If the Fairy Dragon was the witch's daughter, Ms. Eiris would have reacted much sooner."
"You often hunt monsters, right? Especially when a really strong monster appears, you've been taking them down alone and bringing them back to Saintwise when needed. For the research on the Moon's disease... Wasn't there a daughter of a witch among them?"
At Sir Stefan's words, Sir Ciel widened his eyes in surprise, "Ah," as if he was unusually shaken.
