Volume 10 Chapter 4 Content Of The Inscription
"Alexandria is the youngest among the immortals, the last child born. Because of that, she hadn't experienced the conflicts that happened on the ground like the other immortals. From the moon, the earth looked so appealing, and Alexandria wished to descend to the ground, breaking the taboo."
Sir Ciel's calm and relaxed words echoed in the quiet Lobelia.
Goddess Alexandria. She is a distant ancestor of the Rest Priest Family.
My power is the power of Goddess Alexandria. That goddess appeared on the ground from the moon.
"An immortal with healing powers who came down from the moon. Alexandria was protected by the Bernard royal family and placed under the care of the divine ancestor Theobart. Alexandria fell in love and begged Theobart to love her back. Theobart had a wife named Sylphina, but Alexandria, the immortal who descended from the moon, didn't understand what it meant to take Theobart away from Sylphina."
"Pumpkin pudding!"
"Tarte Tatin!"
"Fried horse mackerel!"
In the middle of Sir Ciel's story, Eir-Eir, Ms. Famine, and Nel-Nel bumped into him, fuming with anger.
I grabbed everyone tightly and hugged them close.
I saw Sylphina's memories. It was incredibly painful and hard.
Using the excuse of not understanding the meaning was an unforgivable sin.
I don't know how God Theobart felt, but if a goddess begged to be loved, I feel like there's no human who could refuse.
"...It's a story that most people wouldn't want to hear, right? Just a little more."
Sir Ciel gently stroked Eir-Eir and the others in my arms and continued.
"Well, as everyone knows, Sylphina was deeply hurt and became a Witch. She tried to destroy the Bernard Kingdom and kill Alexandria, but Theobart and Alexandria teamed up to take her down and sealed her away under the red moon. Theobart had feelings for Sylphina and couldn't bring himself to kill her."
"...If you have feelings, you should have just killed her."
Mr. Lucian said with an exasperated tone.
"But, if you were Theobart and Ms. Lydia was Sylphina, could you kill Ms. Lydia?"
"...I wouldn't change my mind."
"It's just a hypothetical. I definitely couldn't do it. I think I understand Theobart's feelings a bit."
I looked back and forth between Sir Ciel and Mr. Lucian. Then I suddenly realized and spoke up.
"Y-Yeah, that was definitely a dangerous situation...! It's just like me, Sir Stefan, and FraFra. I'm glad I didn't become a Witch by spilling out my grudge against Sir Stefan being taken away from me."
"Lydia just made a dish filled with her grudges. It's kind of cute."
Mr. Lucian smiled and patted me as if he was trying to cheer up.
"The cursed sausage isn't cute anymore."
"Forget about it, Lydia. The sausage thing is over."
Sir Stefan said seriously. Sir Rail sighed and said, "I wish I could have seen the cute princess making dishes filled with grudges."
"But when you were kidnapped by the Girard family, it didn't feel like there was much grudge at all."
Sir Roxas tilted his head. When I was kidnapped by Sir Roxas, I was angry about the kidnapping itself, but I had pretty much stopped caring about the broken engagement.
"That's because I had started to recover a bit after being kidnapped by Sir Ciel..."
"Rather, when I first saw you cooking, you were crying, but it didn't feel like you were filled with grudges at that point."
"Sir Ciel is sweet to me after all."
In front of Mr. Lucian and Sir Ciel, I felt pretty resentful.
Eir-Eir clung to me tightly. It felt like they were telling me not to end up like Sylphina, so I hugged everyone and reassured them that it was okay, rubbing against them gently.
It was so fluffy and cozy that it made all the painful memories fade away.
"──Alexandria, after seeing Sylphina's sorrow, finally understood the weight of the sins she committed. And Alexandria left behind an inscription and returned to the moon."
To bring the conversation back, Sir Ciel continued in a calm voice.
"She returned to the moon, huh..."
So, she could go back to the moon. If she could come down, then she could go back too, I guess.
Going back and forth between the moon, high up in the sky, feels kind of unreal.
"The inscription spoke of an apology. It lamented the weight of her sins, and... wished that someday, someone who carried her blood would heal and save Sylphina's heart, trapped in the red moon. It was something she believed she couldn't do herself, being hated as she was. Entrusting all her sins to her descendants, Alexandria left this land."
I realized the meaning of those words and stared intently at Sir Ciel.
That descendant is me.
I can save Sylphina.
That's why Sir Ciel probably wanted to finish it alone first. To keep me from facing danger.
