Volume 6 Chapter 48 Dreams And Awakening
Elder Sister Eiris, and Elder Sister Famine, I didn't know where Medusaena went.
It's not like we all came down together from the red moon.
It feels like everyone just disappeared, and maybe I was the first to go.
I stayed in the land of Gem's People. I have to protect them, since they are my mother's children.
My mother, trapped in the red moon, has been dreaming for a long time. When she's filled with hatred, anger, and sadness, she gives birth to mindless monsters.
When she thinks about the children that were taken away──filled with love and sorrow──she gives birth to Gem's People.
Elder Sister Eiris said, "Mother is crying."
Elder Sister Famine said, "Mother loves Gem's People."
Medusaena couldn't speak because she was a failure.
We each landed in different places to fulfill our mother's wishes.
I didn't know what my sisters were thinking or what they were trying to do.
I have the role of protecting Gem's People. They have suffered cruel treatment from humans.
Even though they are my mother's children, they should have a lot of magical power given by her.
But they don't fight for themselves. I don't really understand why.
When I said I would protect them, they accepted me.
Ah, but.
The very strong monster, the Fairy Dragon, who came down to destroy the world, was killed.
The failed Medusaena rampaged like a mindless monster──and was killed.
It was Gem's People who killed her.
Why would the Gem's People I'm supposed to protect side with humans?
Even though the same Gem's People are suffering, why would they help humans?
That person, it's strange that they're not on our side.
I watched that scene through countless eyes.
Those who fell to a deadly illness because of my power are mine; my eyes, and my ears.
So, let's make Ciel, the Gem's People, my ally. I can't understand why, being Gem's People, they would protect humans, but deep down, they must surely hate humans.
But──.
That was wrong.
I parasitized that body and peeked into that heart.
Ciel had been sitting on an old, musty, dusty sofa in a dim room. There was one bed in that room.
Her mother's lifeless body remained on the bed, dead. Even though she was gone, only her voice echoed.
──"I hate humans. I hate my father. He took away my precious person. I hate him."
──"Ah, but no. Safiro said not to hate anyone. So, no. I must live rightly, without hating or holding grudges."
──"I want to kill them all."
──"No. Please, I must live rightly."
Only the voice echoed in the room.
Young Ciel sat on the old sofa, hugging his knees.
If he stayed still, would his breath eventually stop? Could he stop breathing and die?
These thoughts crossed my mind.
But──that suddenly ended.
The curtains in the dim room, the door, opened. Light streamed in.
A girl with a sparkling smile stood right in front of Ciel. She tightly held young Ciel's hand.
"Sir Ciel, shall we eat? What does Sir Ciel like?"
"If Sir Ciel can't take care of themselves, I will take care of Sir Ciel."
"──Will you be my friend?"
With kindness and affection, his heart filled up.
No matter what he ate, it had no taste. He felt nothing, trying not to hold a grudge against anyone, or hate.
His heart was closed.
"...Why are you showing me this?"
I opened my eyes wide. I thought I would expose the hatred deep in my heart.
It was a gentle, bittersweet, and beloved memory.
Around the girl, even though there are sad things, smiles are everywhere.
Elder Sister Eiris is being feeding something called crab cream croquette.
Elder Sister Famine is putting small pieces of shrimp tempura into her mouth.
They are sleeping together in the same bed, snuggled up, sharing warmth.
"Good night, Lydia. I hope your happiness lasts forever."
Ciel gently stroked the girl's face and said it like a prayer. Seeing that happy, relaxed smile made my heart ache painfully.
I want it.
I also want it.
I also──want to be loved.
Mother only loves Gem's People. She doesn't see my sisters or me in her eyes.
The only words Mother whispers while dreaming are just one.
──My baby. My precious one with God Theobart.
That's not us. I knew that. I understood, but I thought it was okay.
But then, I realized.
The joy of being loved, the thirst for love.
I also, I also...!
I want to be loved like my sisters.
Why do I have to try so hard all alone? Why do I have to protect Gem's People who took away Mother's love?
Why.
Why──can't I take the outstretched hands, my sisters' hands?
"...Nel-Nel."
Suddenly, I felt like I was being hugged tightly.
Soft and warm.
"Nel-Nel, it's okay. We are together."
"Eirnelys. It's okay. We are sisters."
Elder Sister Eiris and beautiful Elder Sister Famine are hugging me.
"Nel-Nel. Let's go home together. Lobelia is big, so it's fine if one more Nel-Nel joins."
The figures of my sisters faded like a mirage, and Lydia was hugging me.
With Lydia, there's Elder Sister Eiris, who looks like a little bird, and Elder Sister Famine, who looks like a cat.
"...Thank you, Lydia. The fried mackerel and strawberry parfait were delicious."
If I could stay in this warmth forever, how wonderful would that be?
"I'm sorry, Ciel. I peeked into your memories without permission."
"...It's fine. I don't feel guilt or shame anymore."
When I apologized to Ciel, who was standing behind Lydia, Ciel shook her head.
The golden-haired guy next to him said, "You should feel something. I just saw something amazing," and he sighed, holding his forehead.
"Sylphina is still suffering, huh?"
The white dog being held by the golden-haired guy spoke.
It's a dog, yet it talks.
I thought it was strange. I closed my eyes.
Ah, it's all over; the dream is waking up. I can't hold onto my form anymore.
My body crumbled away like particles, drifting apart.
