Volume 6 Chapter 50 There Are Times We Can't Understand Each Other

From the airship of Wisteria, a large iron tube is sticking out.

 "Fire!"

Sir Galeon raised one hand and pointed it at us, giving orders. A few mages gathered their magic into the tube. A ball of heat collected at the tip, swelling up and shining like the sun.

 "That's the Magic Stone cannon..."

I was about to rush over to Rosamia, who was being held by the soldiers, but I suddenly stopped in my tracks. It felt like there was another sun above me. It was terrifying, and my legs went weak.

"Ah. The cannon is loaded with a huge Magic Stone. A few mages amplify the magic and fire it. It's several times more powerful than just using magic. It should have been forbidden to create or use something so dangerous."

Sir Stefan stepped forward to protect me and the Gem's People, summoning his holy sword in one hand. Seeing Sir Stefan, the soldiers hesitated and took a step back.

"...It's ironic. Wisteria is a place where the Magic Stones from the Gem's People, obtained from Edelstein, are easy to come by. The Magic Stones mined from the earth don't have this much sensitivity to magic. Using the remains of the Gem's People to destroy their own town is..."

 Sir Ciel raised one hand.

 "White great spear, blue waterfall."

With a short chant, several giant spears of light appeared, surrounding the airship.

The spears pierced the airship all at once, destroying the magic cannon in one go.

A waterfall of water appeared, covering the town, deflecting and absorbing the cannon fire.

The town shook with a low rumble.

There was a shock, but the town was safe.

"...Ciel, you failure of Wisteria protecting the Gem's People! Do you dare to oppose me, a mere monster?!"

From the airship, which was billowing white smoke due to Sir Ciel's magic, Sir Galeon shouted.

Mages abandoned the airship, forming a floating magic circle with Sir Galeon and descending from the ship.

The remaining soldiers also climbed down the ladder one after another, landing on the streets of Edelstein.

The airship, losing its steering, tilted and fell toward the plains beyond the town, flames bursting out with a whoosh.

"I'm Ciel Vermilion. I'm not connected to Wisteria... But, Lord Galeon. What have the Gem's People done to you, just by living here?"

"They spread the curse of the White Moon disease in my territory. I let them live in Wisteria, but they are like termites rotting homes and parasites harming people."

"Mr. Galeon. I heard your story from my father. Your only daughter, Lady Bianca, was taken by the Gem's People──."

At Sir Stefan's words, Sir Galeon scowled, clicking his tongue in annoyance.

"She was a foolish traitor. Can you believe she mated with those monsters, the Gem's People, and bore a child? Disgusting."

The mages and soldiers lined up protectively around Sir Galeon.

Rosamia, who was bound, trembled and tears streamed down her face. The tears turned into small jewels, plopping onto the ground.

 "Please let that child go...!"

"...Please, return Rosamia, that child to me... I don't mind if I get crushed..."

"Please, just that child. I'm begging you...!"

After my voice, a voice rose from behind. A woman and a man from the Gem's People stepped forward unsteadily.

 "Mom, Dad..."

"I told you to kill them. What are you doing? Kill, all of you. Kill every last one. Foolish Your Highness Stefan thinks he's protecting Gem's People more than the Bernard people. Seems the rumors about being controlled by a monster are true. Instead of useless Your Highness, we will protect our Kingdom!"

"Sir Galeon, if you won't listen to Your Majesty's orders, then you will become our enemy in Leonsroar."

Mr. Lucian drew his sword and pointed it at Sir Galeon.

"Lucian, you're here too. What a foolish thing to do, all of you. But I guess that makes sense, you're a Kirschtein, right? The Wilshark servant told me about you."

"Right now, race doesn't matter. I stand with Your Majesty and the sword of Saint Lydia. Your Majesty's words are the will of the Kingdom, and you, who go against that, are nothing but a traitor."

"Ah, I see. Saint, huh? Just like a witch that confuses people's hearts. Lucian, Your Highness. And you, Ciel. The failures of the Girard family. So even the neighboring Chrisrain stirring up, huh?"

 Sir Galeon said mockingly.

He knows nothing. Nothing about Sir Ciel. Nothing about what happened to Mr. Lucian.

He doesn't understand how Sir Stefan feels, standing tall now. Or the struggles that Sir Roxas and Sir Rail faced.

 Or Elder Brother Chrisrain's kindness.

He knows nothing, nothing at all.

I was once like that too. Knowing nothing. Not even trying to understand the other's situation.

Just rejecting. Disliking Sir Ciel for wanting help. Crying, getting angry.

Complaining that I'm useless and can't do anything, just sulking.

"Sir Galeon didn't try to understand the other person, just like I used to. Scared, angry, upset, crying and screaming. Didn't anyone teach Sir Galeon that you shouldn't do to others what you hate being done to you? That you shouldn't say terrible things? If that's the case, then I'll teach you...!"

 "Shut up."

"The White Moon disease will be cured if you eat my cooking. The truth is, I should have cured it myself. So, everyone suffering is my fault. I'll do my best, so before we fight, let's treat the disease. Attacking Gem's People won't cure it."

"I don't care about that anymore. My wish is to wipe out Gem's People. Kill!"

Prompted by Sir Galeon, the soldier holding Rosamia flinched.

He looked back and forth between me and Sir Galeon, then threw Rosamia to the ground and raised his sword towards her heart.

 "No...!"

A loud scream came from Rosamia.

 "Stop!"

I ran towards Rosamia. I have to help her. Rosamia──.

I desperately clung to her body. The sword came down.

But it didn't pierce my body; it bounced off with a hard sound.

Mr. Lucian was right in front of me.

Sir Ciel's magic formed a barrier to protect me and Rosamia.

Sir Stefan was pointing his sword at Sir Galeon.

"──I understand now. What I need to do."

"Filouz, stop. The fighting is over!"

That's Sir Filouz's words. Ignoring Sir Ciel's voice telling him to stop, Sir Filouz clasped his hands in front of his chest.

The jewels scattered throughout the town began to shine beautifully.
