Volume 1 Chapter 23 Mean Villainess, Borrowing A Book About Six Magic Knight
It was a day some time after receiving my punishment.
The moment I stepped into the classroom, I caught sight of Rudger, who was reading a book with his eyes sparkling.
Well, it's not exactly rare to see Rudger happily reading a book, but today something felt different.
As I contemplated whether to call out to him, I became very curious about the book in his hands.
The cover says Six Magic Knight...
I'm really intrigued.
"Rudger"
"Elena! Look at this!"
He came at me with such enthusiasm.
"Sounds interesting. Was it in the library?"
As I leaned in to ask, Rudger cheerfully shook his head.
"It's not from this library; it's a book you can borrow from the Royal Central Library. The teacher got it for me!"
He really seems to be having fun.
But I recall that getting a visitor pass for the Royal Central Library was supposed to be a hassle and quite a trouble.
Did the teacher go through that complicated process?
And it's first a matter of age before I can even enter that library.
That's a problem before we even get to the procedures.
In short, what I want to say is, I want to read it too.
Since it's a book I've never seen before, it's likely that it's only available at the Royal Central Library.
I want to read it.
It sounds interesting.
"Not all of them, but it has information about the Six Magic Knights' careers and so on."
It sounds too interesting.
"More details."
"Are you interested?"
"Yes."
"Okay, I borrowed two books, so I'll let Elena read the one I'm not reading now."
Yay!
I almost jumped up in joy, but held back.
Because noble daughters don't jump up and say "yes!"
"Is that okay?"
"Yeah. Elena asked me to let her read it too. But since I borrowed it, I can't let her take it home."
"Okay, thank you. I'll read it right away."
It's a bit thick, but I should be able to read most of it if I use all my break time.
"They said I could borrow it for 3 days, so I should be able to read both books in that time."
"Yeah, yeah."
Just as I was about to start reading right away, Rudger called me as if he suddenly remembered something.
"The Spell-ology teacher is wanting to meet Elena."
"Me? I actually wanted to meet them too, so if the teacher is available, could you let them know?"
"Got it."
I also wanted to meet the Spell-ology teacher.
Rudger's stories alone are quite interesting, but I also wanted to hear from the teacher, who's been involved with Spell-ology for a long time.
However, considering how often they try to pull me into Spell-ology, it seems the teacher is quite busy since we don't get to meet much.
"Hey Elena, have you ever seen the teacher?"
"From a distance, yes."
"So that means it should be fine if you meet."
"Huh?"
"No, the teacher is really big and quite intimidating for the female students."
"Is that so?"
Now that I think about it, from afar he did seem tall, and I can't help but think he looked like a gentle-looking gym teacher from my previous life.
"It seems he doesn't want to miss out on a potential catch like Elena because of their appearance."
"Haha, for now, just let him know I won't be surprised by his looks."
Somehow, I imagined he might be the type of person who's kind-hearted but also quite strong.
After exchanging such conversations, I took my seat and immediately started looking at the book I borrowed from Rudger.
The cover was a red-black leather with faded lettering that read Six MWhen I pulled away the heavy presence, it was written about what Six Magic Knights really are.
From the very first page, it already seems interesting.
The Six Magic Knights are beings that protect the king from all directions: front, back, left, right, and even above and below.
This is nothing short of fantasy.
It's astonishing that this isn't a game manual or a strategy guide, but something that actually exists in the world I live in, and it just pumps me up.
It seems that being chosen as a Six Magic Knight grants you a title.
In front is onyx, behind is ruby, to the right is sapphire, to the left is howlite, and the sky is crystal, while the earth is iolite.
It's just so cool.
Moreover, it seems that the title can be added as a middle name.
If I were chosen as the magic knight in front, I'd become Elena Onyx Alfano.
I feel like my fantasy brain is getting stimulated and my palms are starting to sweat.
Basically, those with a lot of magical power are chosen.
It is said that occasionally those with exceptionally high combat power were also selected.
It seems that it doesn't explain what they intended to protect the king from, but it does indicate they aimed to solidify the surroundings with magical power and combat capability.
However, it must have been quite difficult to find those with high magical power and combat ability blindly.
Now that the academy exists, magical power can be somewhat grouped and investigated, and combat power can easily be measured through events like the recent matches.
Isn't the academy there just for this purpose?
"Elena!"
"Oh, yes, yes."
I had been absorbed in reading a book and before I knew it, it was lunchtime.
"The teacher asked if you are free after school today. If you're free, it seems we're gathering at the library."
"I'll go. Is it okay if Rolus comes too?"
"If Rolus is fine with it."
"...Is it boring?"
"Rolus isn't interested in Spell-ology, right? Well, it's the library, so how about waiting while reading a book he like?"
"Spell-ology seems to be difficult. In any case, since he'll have to wait, I'll bake him a cake later as a reward."
"I want to try it too."
"Next time."
Rudger might have a sweet tooth.
* * *
And so the long-awaited after-school time arrived.
Once we gathered in the library, the teacher took us to a private room next to the library.
This private room was different from the private rooms given to teachers, and students could also enter.
It was a study room, perhaps.
"Um, nice to meet you, Ellie. I'm Bruno, teaching Spell-ology."
The teacher of Spell-ology was very big in stature, but he had an incredibly gentle voice and tone.
He was like a teddy bear.
"Nice to meet you, Mister Bruno. Thank you for the textbook the other day. I'm sorry for the delay in expressing my gratitude in person."
Bowing slightly, the teacher waved his large hand and said, "No need to thank me!"
"I've been really interested after hearing about Mr. Rudger and reading the textbook, so I was looking forward to talking with you like this."
"R-Really!? That's great to hear!"
The teacher said that, and truly looked genuinely happy.
"The Six Magic Knights book you lent me today is also really interesting. I've only read half of it so far."
"Isn't it!?"
"Hey, come on, don't get all excited just the two of you."
As there were many things I wanted to discuss, I was trying to move the conversation along quickly when Rudger called for me to pause.
"You're right, Rudger, I'm sorry. I got a bit too excited."
