Volume 1 Chapter 32 Mean Villainess, Touching on Love Stories

I found out that the person who appeared in my dreams and was apologizing to me is the fifth queen, but even so, I have no way of knowing why she was apologizing.

 I'm stuck.

When I read the history book at home, it said that the fifth queen was tragically killed by a stray bullet during the war.

 It was written, but still.

She was alive about a thousand years ago, and obviously, I won't be there.

Even though I have memories of my previous life, I was Japanese in my past life, so it has nothing to do with this world.

 "Haa..."

Realizing there was nothing I could do no matter how much I thought about it, a deep sigh escaped my lips.

"Lady, there is nothing for you to worry about."

"Huh? W-what? Am I saying something to myself?"

"No, um, I thought you were feeling down because you heard some rumors...?"

 "Rumors?"

"...If I may be so bold, Lady, have you actually been asleep since you got off the carriage? While walking?"

 "No, I'm awake, okay?"

Rolus said that while walking from the carriage to the entrance of the academy, he heard several rumors about me.

Moreover, they were said in quite a loud voice.

And the rumors were that I might be a candidate to become the prince's bride after the next Marquis, that I'm on good terms with the son of the Count family, my childhood friend, and that I'm also on good terms with that handsome teacher, and so on.

The people who were mentioned in the rumor were Sir Lorentz, Sven, Leve, and Mister Eliseo, who were the targets of a wonderful otome game.

Let's get Rudger in there too.

"I didn't hear them at all"

 "...Is that so?"

"Yeah. I was thinking about something."

 "Are you thinking?"

"Yes. The cause of the death of the fifth queen, etc."

 "Cause of death"

It seems as if the face of Rolus says, "You were wrong to worry."

"Well...let those who want to say it say it."

It can't be helped, since it's true that I'm involved with those people in the first place.

I have no plans to become a bride candidate.

And it's not surprising that, as the sub-boss in this otome game, the Mean Villainess doesn't leave a good impression on others.

Rather, the mischievous little devil who flirts with various men feels more like a sub-boss than the academically outstanding Lady Elena.

What's more concerning to me are the Fifth Queen who apologized to me, the seal that was apparently placed on me, and why that seal was broken.

Speaking of which, there was one more thing that bothered me.

"That's right, Rolus, let's go buy that game after school today!"

"...Um, the new witch game, right?"

 "Exactly!"

Today, I'm going to buy that horror game where the witch jumps out, which I couldn't get on the release date because I was so shaken by the portrait of the Fifth Queen.

Although Rolus seems a bit reluctant!

As I parted ways with Rolus, who had a face that seemed to worry about me and himself, I entered the classroom, and everyone had gathered at my seat.

 "Good morning!"

 "Good morning, Lady Elena!"

Led by Ms. Natalia's cheerful voice, Ms. Parsley and Ms. Percella, who were present, greeted me back.

 "Oh, you were late, Elena!"

It was Rudger who skipped the morning greeting.

I wonder if he was that eager to see me.

"I was just listening to a wonderful story from Mr. Rudger!"

 Ms. Parsley said, looking dreamy.

 "Nice story?"

"Here, this. The prince lent it to me. It's a story about the fifth queen. It's a little embellished, but it tells the story of how the fifth king and queen met."

I was surprised that he had already brought it, and Rudger laughed and said, "He brought it first thing in the morning."

Aren't you being too quick, Prince?

 "Have you read it yet?"

"I was just telling you the plot because you asked me what the story was about."

 "I see"

While I was answering, flipping through the book and looking at the table of contents, Ms. Parsley spoke up.

 "A devoted man is wonderful..."

I guess she really liked the synopsis of this story.

 She's been entranced ever since.

"Is it really that great? A devoted man, huh?"

As Rudger tilted his head while saying that, he was met with vaguely critical looks from the girls.

"Of course. I would be so happy if you could only look at me and not be distracted by anyone else."

"But this is a story about royalty, right? If she can't have children, there would be a ruckus about the heir."

"Such realistic talk doesn't matter at all!"

As I continued reading the table of contents with the argument between Ms. Parsley and Rudger as background music, it turned out that the fifth queen had indeed given birth to the 6th king properly.

Being devoted doesn't seem to be a problem after all.

And in the end, it seems she was hit by a stray bullet after all.

When I secretly read around that page, it looks like the stray bullet struck when the queen was 27.

If the fifth king was truly a devoted man, it must have been quite shocking for him.

"So that means there were no concubines, right?"

"That's right, Lady Elena. He proposed by saying, 'I will love you alone for all my life!'"

 "That's wonderful."

When I said that and smiled, Ms. Parsley nodded, blushing.

 This girl is super cute.

As I thought that it must have been shocking since the Queen lost her loved one, a scene of a game fanatic clinging to my coffin suddenly flashed in my mind.

'Next time, I'll make sure to deliver you home safely, so come back!'

That time when that shy guy broke down crying in front of everyone.

I, my past self, and my present self, could not look directly at him, crying and regretting that it was all my fault.

If a stray bullet hit the queen, it must have been aimed at the king.

So maybe the fifth king too, I thought, but then Rudger took the book away from me.

"Don't try to read the ending, Elena"

 "...I see. Sorry."

I gently folded my fingers together, trying to hide my trembling fingers.

Ms. Parsley looks confused, so it seems Rudger didn't tell her the end of the story.

It's hard to tell a girl who is so enchanted that it was a tragic love story that ended in death.

Speaking of which, wasn't the fifth king reportedly missing?

It's not something I can just say right now.

"I've suddenly developed a preference for dedicated men, but Lady Elena, what kind of man do you like?"

When Ms. Parsley asked me that without any hesitation, I was momentarily taken aback.

What kind of guy I like, huh.

"Hmm..., someone I can laugh with, probably. Someone I can laugh so much with that my stomach hurts."

* * *

 After school that day.

I hurried over to Mister Bruno and Rolus.

Rudger, who had business with Mister Bruno, came along too.

"Hey Elena, you were trying to rush through the ending earlier, weren't you?"

"Yeah. Did you read it all the way to the end?"

"I did. The fifth king offers flowers every day at the tomb of the queen he loved, and it ends with her grave turning into a flower garden."
