Volume 1 Chapter 40, Part 2 The Knight, Assigned to the Prince Was Holding His Head in the Shadows
It seems that in order to make contact with her, I need to overcome an incredibly huge wall.
As I tried to step into the Count's family mansion, a knight who introduced himself as a gardener blocked my way.
He said, "I cannot let anyone without the master's permission meet the lady."
I knew the Count adored his daughter, but I never expected it to be to this extent.
By the way, there were several knights who called themselves gardeners, as well as a girl who acted like a maid and seemed to be a stealth knight, so it was absolutely impossible for me to reach the young lady.
The Count's family is scary.
I felt a mix of the urge to do something and frustration at the reality of being unable to do anything, but it seemed like the prince and the young lady were surprisingly starting to build a good relationship.
Putting the prince aside, the young lady isn't trying to escape.
Even though she should know that he is a prince, she interacts with him without fear or hesitation, as if they are truly friends.
Moreover, that young lady was involving her commoner male friend in her interactions with the prince.
If they could really become friends without any issues, how wonderful that would be.
Of course, I know that the prince has caused problems for the young lady.
I am aware of it, and I also feel sorry about it.
Nevertheless, I understand that it's presumptuous to think they could become friends.
Still, I wanted to pray that at least one of the prince's wishes, after all he has endured, could come true.
One particular day after school.
On the way home, the prince suddenly said he wanted to stop the carriage.
When I asked what was going on, he said he saw that young lady entangled with a man.
And I felt a little uneasy when the prince said he had to help her.
It was after school, and students were overflowing everywhere.
If the prince showed up to help the young lady, it was obvious that it would create quite a commotion.
It would be best to avoid making a big fuss when it is unclear who is troubling the young lady.
As I was about to give him this advice, the prince's eyes turned to me.
"If I go to help her, things will probably get complicated. If things get complicated, Elena will be the one who will be in trouble. So, why don't you go, Paul?"
It was the moment I felt the prince's growth.
I hurried to the young lady's side, but the man saw the crest on my chest and ran away like a rabbit.
It was really good that she seemed to be grateful to me without things getting complicated.
When I told the prince that the lady wants to thank him later, he genuinely looked delighted.
Maybe this means the prince and the lady might actually become friends.
With the prince's slight growth, he surely won't cause her any trouble.
I've heard that since the prince started interacting with the lady and commoner boys, more students aren't surprised when he speaks to them in class, which is a good sign.
"Prince, where are you going?"
"To the study. I'm going to find a book that Elena would like. And I'll meet her tomorrow."
No, you're calling her first!!!
She said she wanted to thank you later, so you could have just waited a little longer!
"Elena was attacked by a thug; she might be feeling down."
She didn't look that way at all, though!
Excuse me for saying so!
So, well.
In the end, I couldn't stop the prince, but there were no issues.
When I listened carefully to their conversation, it seemed like the lady was also happy about the book the prince took.
Well, as long as everything seems to be going well, I thought half-heartedly on my way home that it was fine.
The prince was wearing a smile I had never seen on him before.
"P-Prince?"
"I was consulted by Elena."
"Ah, yes."
"Elena thought I was worth consulting!"
The prince is so positive.
"But...Elena looked very sad, and the topic of her consultation was serious."
"Yes"
"...It was the first time I'd ever been asked for advice like that, so I was desperately trying to respond. I was scared that she would think I wasn't worthy of her advice. Of course, I was worried about Elena, too."
The prince!
The prince is worried about others!
"I wonder if I said what Elena wanted...I wonder if it was okay..."
The prince!
The prince is trying to be considerate of others and not go out of control!
"As long as the prince remembers to be considerate of others, I think you'll be fine."
"Really? Good."
I don't know what the young lady is thinking, but somehow I feel like she'll be okay.
I had a hunch that she would continue to engage with the prince from now on.
After all, she didn't run away from that troublesome, rampaging prince.
...No, well, I have a strong desire for things to be okay, but still, I believe that child will be just fine.
"But wouldn't it have been better if I could have given her more thoughtful advice...?"
"I've heard that women seek empathy rather than advice. If the prince was nodding along, then that should be enough, right?"
"W-Well, I feel like I gave some advice too, though?"
"I-It's okay, Prince... Lady Elena is probably a very kind friend of yours."
"Yeah, she's kind."
Just be okay...!
