Volume 6 Chapter 57 Side Braver Xiv (Part I)

Some time had passed since departing from Arcus.

Now, their journey is a journey to strengthen ties between nations in preparation for the Demon King's revival while thwarting the schemes of demons operating in secrecy.

During visits to several countries, there had already been a few encounters with demons.

 And then──.

"As expected of the party famed as Brave. Not an easy group to take down, are you?"

"Ha! Taking you on while I'm still recovering might've been a bit much for me!"

The speaker was a man equipped with long, sharp claws capable of easily slicing through stone walls.

Beside him stood a man with an arm of steel and another wrapped in armor.

Both bore 2 horns atop their heads──a clear testament to their demon heritage.

Facing them was, of course, the Brave party led by Relix.

At the forefront, Brave Relix stood.

Everyone bore wounds and panted heavily.

Though their determination hadn't wavered, the strain was obvious at a glance.

"They are as tough as expected. They're strong..."

Clad in white flames around the Holy Sword Leiva, Relix muttered in frustration.

Though they had fought demons several times before, in terms of raw combat ability, the demons still surpassed humans.

Even with their group of 4 working in unison, they couldn't overpower the smaller group of demons.

Rather, it felt like their side was being drained faster.

"There's no doubt. This matches the description of the demons involved in that corrupt merchant's scheme back in Eubarest."

While administering healing magic to the injured Gabert, Shion explained.

"Oh, so word about us has already spread? We've become quite famous, haven't we, Bael?"

"Weiss, in this case, 'infamous' might be the more appropriate term. From Brave's perspective, we're undoubtedly villains."

 "Ha! No doubt about it!"

The calm-speaking demon with claws, Bael, and the jovial, laughing demon with the iron arm, Weiss, were far from unscathed.

Several of Bael's claws were broken, and Weiss's steel arm was cracked.

Both bore injury, and the marks of burns from white flames were still raw.

But for some reason, they felt somewhat relaxed compared to Relix and the others.

 "Mayuri, are you okay?"

"I'm still a part of the court magician. I'm fine."

Mayuri answered Relix with vigor, but the sweat streaming down her cheeks proved her bravado.

The role of a magician is not just to use magic.

It involves grasping the whole battlefield and using magic with precise judgment.

In the battle against the two demons, her judgment was fully displayed in both offense and defense.

However, when Gabert was injured, she unleashed powerful magic to pull Weiss off for the finishing blow.

Having used many magic spells in the fierce back-and-forth, her magical power was nearing its limit.

"Damn it, if only I could have done better..."

The white flame itself, the sword strikes wrapped in it, could incinerate or cut through anything in a deadly blow.

But it meant nothing if it didn't hit.

Though it grazed, it did not reach, and Relix could not suppress his frustration.

"It was just right to check the condition of my new right arm. It was too easy against ordinary opponents, but against Brave, it might be too much."

"If I could take out even one of their group... that would be too greedy."

While under the harsh gaze of Relix and the others, the demons still had a bright atmosphere.

They were definitely not being careless.

As proof, the two had stopped attacking Relix and the others.

With Gabert, who was serving as the vanguard, temporarily stepping back, it was a time to attack.

Knowing this well, Relix prepared his white flame while Mayuri readied her great magic.

If they stepped in carelessly, they would surely face a painful counterattack.

Calmly assessing the situation, it was still not just that.

"But you know, the previous one are indeed strong..."

"I understand what you mean. Compared to the other day, they seem a bit lighter."

The words of the demons were almost a whisper.

Yet strangely, they slipped into Relix's ears.

As he clenched his teeth, they naturally relaxed, and driven by the impulse rising from his restless heart, Relix suddenly spoke.

"......Who exactly are we talking about?"

At Relix's unexpected question, the demons looked puzzled.

 "Oh? You heard that?"

"It seems the talk with Eubarest reached you, but... the details didn't get through."

"...Ah damn, just remembering it makes my *roots* ache."

Saying that, Weiss pressed the shoulder of his armored arm.

The blazing emotions that he never showed while fighting Relix and the others were clearly rising.

However, it was Relix who was swaying with even more emotion.

His stance with the sword held firm, yet Bael did not miss the shadow within that calm.
