Volume 1 Chapter 21 ACT.19 The Heretical Cult (V)
'I'm gonna make it quick, just to let Rai have the flowers!'
Saying that, I'm readies my sword with both hands.
"What are you saying──!?"
The young man, who had been watching me change suddenly, muttered in confusion, and the moment he looked at me, his eyes opened wide in shock.
He then began to tremble violently, screaming.
"Y-youuu! What the hell did you do to meee!?"
The young man, dropping his sword and holding his temples, began to writhe in pain as if trying to endure a headache.
Watching this from the side, I said:
'Who knows?'
Of course, that was not the case.
I knew exactly the reason why.
I understood what had happened to him and what I had done.
What I did was simple and straightforward──essentially, I just used my usual cheat (special ability) to read his mind.
But why, with just that, did the young man start to suffer?
The reasoning was like this.
He used his cheat (special ability) to derive potential actions I might take in the future.
Upon seeing that, he began to think about how I would move.
Then, I read his movements through mind-reading.
What happens then?
The answer is this──the future changes.
Once I predicted the new future again, it was instantaneously read and a new prediction was established.
Yes, in this case, it was fatal that his ability was "future prediction" rather than "future foresight."
Prediction is derived from the computational processing of observed phenomena.
In other words, his ability relies on observing the present and using his own brain functions to compute and predict the future.
Therefore, the use of his ability inevitably places a burden on his brain.
If we only look at the results, it was indeed a very effective cheat (special ability) because, similar to other cheats (special abilities), it was unreasonable and excelled in cost performance due to its dependence on brain function, but he had picked the wrong opponent.
The answer he painstakingly derived using a complex formula was swiftly stolen by me, and the result was altered.
Thus, in the blink of an eye, I forced him to recalculate endlessly.
The youth who meticulously calculates to derive solutions for "future predictions," and I, who effortlessly know his carefully calculated future through "mind reading."
Looking at the game of rock-paper-scissors from the perspective of mental load, my side was clearly the better choice.
And then, his brain could no longer bear the load.
"Damn it! What's this!? The dizziness, it's so intense!?"
'Alright, I'll make it quick for you.'
With that, I slit the throat of the youth who could no longer stand up properly due to the dizziness.

'Phew, feels like one job down.'
I said that while picking up the shield that had been lying on the ground.
'Next, I'll switch with Rai again──'
In an instant, a killing intent.
'──!?'
Brandishing the shield, I turned to face the direction from which the killing intent had come.
The intense killing intent was coming from the entrance of the room.
And there, standing without a sound, was a man──or rather, a Black Knight.
'M-Master?'
Yes, the one standing there was none other than Aslan Aldabaran, Rai's master.
However, from Aslan, an unusual killing intent was directed towards me.
'──You, you're not *Rai*.'
Aslan muttered in a chillingly terrifying tone, as if he were turning cold.
I had never heard such a voice from him before.
And in that moment, my spine chilled.
This was bad, very bad.
Aslan had somehow completely seen through the fact that I was not Rai.
'Where have you taken my disciple, Rai Conwell!!'
