Volume 1 Chapter 24 Horace VS Astral Dragon Gai Gigant I

On the rooftop of the Duke Lecoitenides mansion in the royal city.

Stones were placed on a pedestal, and when magic flowed into them, the sky around turned cloudy.

The ground started to shake and the wind began to swirl.

Suddenly, magic burst from the summoning stone, and a purple mist swallowed the people pouring magic into it, covering them in a veil and devouring them as food.

The flash from the stone pierced the cloudy sky, breaking the clouds in one small part.

 "Grrrrrrrr..."

A dragon appeared in the cleared sky... and started to descend.

Covered head to tail with purple scales, its giant body looked about 30 meters long. Its eyes opened, looking down over the royal city.

"H-Hey, what the heck is that!"

"I-It's a dragon! Run, run away!"

The city's people were thrown into total chaos.

The sudden cloudy sky, swirling winds, and shaking ground were all things no one could normally imagine happening at once.

It was clearly an emergency, and people scrambled to run away from where the dragon was.

Looking down on those people, Gai Gigant gathered purple magic inside his mouth.

"That dragon's storing something in its mouth."

"Is it gonna breathe fire or something? Hide behind something! If it targets you, it's over!"

Even some were too scared or weak to move, but shouting to run away meant there was some serious courage.

But no matter what, they couldn't stop the breath attack.

Gai Gigant mercilessly unleashed his breath.

"...Seriously, telling me to buy time until the hero's master shows up? That's gotta be a joke."

From somewhere, a crescent-shaped slash of magic sliced through the breath.

That slash hung in the air until Gai Gigant finished releasing his breath, then vanished at the same moment.

"Hah, the hero community members who were in the royal city left for Dragonstone Kingdom, and the other 'bosses' are in far countries and can't come quick. Whatever the logic. At least call for some SS or S rank people. This really ain't a job for me (A rank)."

The one grumbling was a man clad in black armor from head to toe, gripping a sharp sword.

"I didn't want to take the S-rank promotion test 'cause they call you up in emergency like this, but 'Deed the Twilight' just wants to stay a regular A-rank. Then bam, you show up outta nowhere."

Deed grumbles, staring at Gai Gigant.

"Well, the pay's good if I just hang tough, so might as well do my best."

 Deed grips the sword tighter.

Magic starts flowing out of the blade again.

"Alright... I'm dragging you down to my human stage. Come down here, damn it!"

He swings the sword, releasing a magic-charged slash.

The magic's squeezed super tight, so the hit should pack a punch.

But Gai Gigant just swishes his long tail, easily smashing it to bits.

"Sheesh, I'm not even close to my real power yet. What a joke."

Deed gets back into stance, pointing the sword forward.

Watching magic build up in Gai Gigant's mouth, Deed covers his sword in magic too.

* * *

Above the ruined buildings of the royal city, a sleek golem vehicle suddenly appears, unfolding a canopy made of special glass.

"Arrived... Huh? Looks safer than I thought. Except for one person."

It's been an hour since the fight between Gai Gigant and Deed started.

 Yeah, only an hour.

Rangella guessed they'd arrive in 3 hours, but they got here in one.

Horace sticks his head out of the cockpit, pulls out a gun-shaped golem from his jacket, and fires at Gai Gigant.

Magic bullets shoot out, aiming where the heart might be, but only scratch one scale on the back.

But just that gets Gai Gigant to turn his head toward Horace.

 "Yeah, look my way."

Horace takes off a 3-centimeter cube from the cockpit, pours magic into it to start it up, and stores the flying golem back in the item box.

Somehow, Horace's body hangs in the air without falling.

 "Alright, first..."

He touches the half-sphere on the gun's hammer and shoots at Deed.

The bullet flies insanely fast, hitting Deed's body. The cracked armor repairs itself, wounds heal, and even the missing left arm regrows.

Deed was confused that the pain in My body disappeared, but when he saw the left arm he thought was lost, he looked super shocked.

That arm probably got blown off in battle, but it's growing back with the armor still attached.

Deed looked up at the sky and spotted Horace... then let out a big sigh.

Without another word, he spun on his heel and walked away from the battlefield.

"No other wounded. If you're the 'Twilight Deed,' that makes sense. Now... come play with me, Astral Dragon Gai Gigant."

Switching to normal bullets, Horace aimed and fired one shot after another.

Gai Gigant swung its arm, smashing the bullets, then soared up toward Horace in the sky.

"I took off my limiter and am coming at full speed, but my magic's kinda outta tune too. Guess you'll warm me up with your moves."

As Horace kicked off the air to dodge the tail swinging down at him, he smirked wide.
