Volume 4 Chapter 27 Different Places, Different Faiths

After finishing unloading, I relaxed my tired body in the bath.

Me, Miloslav, and the captain were climbing the stairs to the high ground of the town with Clepa, who was with his granddaughter, Llama.

The reason the captain was with us is that there is only one <Magic Stone of Cashunat> for us to talk.

Ms. Llama is a gentle beauty around 20, just like Minori.

They suggested her as my potential wife, but I politely declined.

I have a loving wife and daughters, after all.

'We've arrived, this is the first Church of Chupa.'

Clepa said this while easily swinging open the heavy door with his slender arms.

Inside, despite it being evening, many people were seen praying.

 "First? So, are there others?"

Miloslav asked this as if it were obvious, and Clepa nodded, turning to look down at the town and pointing out several places.

'There are second, third, and even 4th ones. If you go to the imperial city, there are many more Churches.'

"Really? I can't imagine that in our town."

Just as Miloslav said, even in Sartzstadt, which is a large town, there is only one Church for each sect.

Well, there are various sects, though.

"In the eastern continent, there are many different gods, like Lord Sigmund and Lord Fyrel. When there are many Churches for a specific sect, it gets complicated."

"Ah, that might be the case, yeah."

It seemed like Miloslaf understood my explanation, and he clapped his hands with a pop.

Even the Church is run by people.

Of course, there are turf wars; on the surface, it looks like they coexist, but behind the scenes, they don't recognize other gods──at least, that's how it goes.

 We can't break that balance.

But if that's the case, does that mean in the Quechua Empire, there are no gods worshiped except for Abnella?

Then, what happens to the other gods?

I thought to ask Mr. Clepa, but he had a serious look on his face.

 ...This reaction might mean──

'Karman, do you worship Sigmund and Fyrel in your country?'

Just as I expected, Mr. Clepa reacted like that.

From his expression, it seemed he didn't have a good impression of Sigmund or Fyrel.

 "Yeah, that's right. We also..."

"Captain, let me explain. Mr. Clepa, I'm sorry for interrupting, but in our country, it's normal to worship 'gods sealed away like Sigmund and others under Abnella'."

When I tried to cut in, the captain looked pale as he realized what he was about to say.

You're right; to Abnella, other gods are enemies to be hated.

'I see... I thought it was strange that the only follower of Abnella was Miloslaf. Are you people worshiping enemies of Abnella?'

 Wow, he called them enemies.

Other gods are really hated, huh?

But no point in pretending everything's fine.

I decided to keep pushing forward.

"Mr. Clepa, please listen calmly. In our country, Abnella is treated as an Evil God."

 'W-What?! Are you serious!?'

"Well, listen. I know you all serve Abnella, but we still came here. We want to know the truth."

I calmed down the angry Mr. Clepa while continuing to explain.

His loud voice was causing quite a ruckus in the back of the Church.

I wanted to wrap this up before a crowd gathered.

"In our country, we don't know the true form of Abnella. So, could you help clear up this misunderstanding?"

 '.........'

Mr. Clepa glared at me for a moment, then snorted and tapped Llama on the shoulder.

"Llama, take them to the god. I'll go get some fresh air."

With that, Mr. Clepa walked back out the door.

It seemed we managed to keep things from getting too heated.

Llama, who had been watching us without moving a brow, said, "This way~," as she led the 3 of us further into the Church.
