Volume 3 Chapter 7 The Villainous Guildmaster, Recruiting Thugs (Physically)
In the slum town, I took in Trish, an orphan, as my companion.
After that, she guided me deeper into the slums.
"Are you really going to recruit those street thugs?"
"Yes. I need more hands now. Take me to their hideout, where bored kids like you hang out."
"Fine... but honestly, they're all pretty dangerous."
"I don't care about their personalities. All that matters is if they're useful."
After a while...
We reached a dirty back alley in front of a shady bar.
"In this place, bad kids like me with nothing to do are wasting the day, drinking loud and crazy."
"I see. Thanks for the guide. I'll talk about the job contract later. You can step back now."
Trish gave me a sharp look.
"What's up?"
"No, seriously, you should stop. The people inside are the kind who throw punches fast. I don't think they'll listen to you."
"Don't worry about it."
"Wha...?! I'm not worried! Hmph! Do whatever you want!"
Trish turned bright red and stormed off.
"Thanks for leading the way."
"Hmph! I'll come pick you up later! You'll probably be hurt and can't move!"
She's a caring girl.
She might make a good leader.
"Alright, let's go in."
I opened the wooden door and stepped inside.
The strong smell of alcohol hit my nose.
Inside the dirty room, red-faced men drank in every corner.
When I appeared, everyone watched me.
The quiet bar held its breath as I walked straight to the counter.
I ordered a drink and took a sip.
It was cheap alcohol.
It was strong but rough.
I was drinking alone for a while when suddenly...
"Hey, you! You're a new face around here."
A muscular big guy spoke to me.
The mohawk man looked down on me.
"I just moved here from Royal Capital recently."
"Oh, I see... Hey, bro. This is our territory, you know? Don't just walk in here!"
I hold the glass and take a big sip.
"Got it. Sorry about that."
Suddenly, the guy raises the bottle he was holding and swings it down hard.
Crash...!
"You're the one to blame here, you know. Acting all high and mighty... just because you're in front of the great Sir [Donovan]!"
"Oh, so that's your name. Donovan."
"Wha!? You... when did you!?"
I could see Donovan's attack coming before it happened.
I just moved the moment he swung that bottle down.
"Using a weapon against bare hands? Not very impressive."
"Ugh...! Y-you...!"
Donovan throws a punch at me.
Smash...!
"Wha!? You... you actually took my punch!?"
I catch his punch directly with just my right hand.
"Wow... What the hell is that black-haired guy...?"
The other thugs around us start to murmur.
"Nice punch. Speed and power are top-notch. It's a waste to let a talent like this rot away here."
"Hey, don't act all high and mighty!"
I jump away to dodge Donovan's low kick.
"What the hell are you!?"
"I'm Act Age. I'm the Guildmaster of the Adventurers Guild, [TGem of Heavenly Gift]."
"Wha!? Y-you're Act Age!?"
Donovan's eyes widen in shock.
Looks like my reputation has even reached this rundown part of the Royal Capital.
"Act..."
With that, Donovan steps closer to me.
The other thugs also start moving in my direction.
Well, well, being an outsider here seems to be a problem for them.
If a fight is what they want, fine by me.
I'll just make them listen──everyone.
"Whoa...! It's the real deal...!"
The thugs are staring at me with shining eyes.
"That's the infamous Act!""No way! I can't believe it's really him!""Um, can I get an autograph?! I'm a big fan!""Hey, no fair! I want one too!"
...What is this reaction?
"Mr. Act! I'm sorry! I had no idea you were the famous Villainous Guildmaster! What an impertinence!"
Donovan completely changes his attitude from before and awkwardly approaches.
"What the hell are you doing, you bastards!"
BAM!
And Trish bursts through the door and enters.
"Why are you here?"
"Huh!? It's not like I came to check on you because I was worried or anything!"
"I see."
Then what could she have done?
Well, whatever.
"Trish. Did you bring Mr. Act all the way here? Wow, you sure are full of yourself!"
Donovan pats Trish on the shoulder with a smile.
"Hey, why are you all so happy?"
"Well... Mr. Act is our idol in the underworld! There's no one who doesn't know Mr. Act's name there!"
It seems that without my knowledge, my reputation has been walking on its own.
"Uh, uh... I didn't know that?"
Haa... the delinquents sigh.
