Volume 1 Chapter 23 Let's Use Earth Magic IV
When Cain woke up, it was the time when the sunset light sneaked in through the window cracks.
"Mmm, slept good. I feel more 'Mana' than usual, right?"
He felt so much 'Mana' it seemed like it could leak out from him.
Checking his MP on the status board showed 2100/(∞).
"Alright, totally healed. I wasn't used to only having 1/100 MP before. But this is the usual deal, right? If I just use 'magic' without thinking, it might blow up? Gotta control it right."
It was getting dark, but he went out to the yard to try the 'magic'.
"Huh? That 'Hole' from before is still here. Even with time, it doesn't go back. So 'Hole' is a permanent effect kind of 'magic'. Gotta be careful or someone could fall and get hurt."
While thinking if there's a way to erase it, the word 'Delete' popped into Cain's head.
'What's this? Should I try it? Delete.'
One breath after thinking 'Delete', the 'Hole' vanished and the ground went back to normal.
But he used up twice the MP compared to when he made the 'Hole'.
"So deleting a 'magic' effect costs double MP. Definitely something only a magic user with lots of MP can use."
After that, Cain kept doing 'Hole' and 'Delete' until it got too dark to see.
Along the way, he learned a bunch of stuff.
Assuming he uses 'Circulation' first:
- If you just say the spell without thinking much, it makes a hole about 10 cm deep like a manhole cover.
- If you imagine a depth, the hole opens at that depth, but the wider it is, the smaller it gets.
- Seems like the hole always has the same volume no matter what.
- After making a hole, if you imagine the bottom of the hole and start from there, the hole digs even deeper.
=> The hole gets deeper.
- Using 'Circulation' with double the amount makes the hole twice as big.
- Using 'Circulation' triple the amount makes the hole 3 times bigger.
- The hole walls feel a bit solid, but if you hit them hard with a rock, they crumble.
'If I use this "Hole" with infinite Mana, I could make a "basement" really easy. Even easier to dig a well or something. Earth magic really is kinda broken, huh?'
The next day, he tried "'Stone.'".
"By my will, obey the stone──'Stone.'"
Boom, a block of stone, 10 cm on each side, appeared.
He tried lots of stuff with "'Stone,'" too:
- Changing the side length by imagining it works, but the volume stays the same.
- He tried imagining shapes besides a square, but it only stays square.
- Using "Circulation" made the sides 15 cm long.
- Doing "Circulation" twice as much made it 19 cm per side.
- Doing "Circulation" 3 times as much made it 21 cm per side.
- To make more stones, clearly imagine the number and say it in the spell, like "2" or "3," and they appear. Saying it while flowing "Mana" into the earth uses less MP.
- Turning "soil" into stone uses less "Mana" than turning "Mana" itself into stone.
"'Stone' spell makes me feel like being a human stone-making machine. Since it makes stones the same size, you can make a bunch and build stone paths easily."
After that, Cain spent 6 months training "Circulation" every morning and using [Earth magic] every afternoon.
