Volume 5 Chapter 12 The Activities of The Companions
Hero Lawrence and the others are storming the Demon King's castle.
Thanks to Eli, they found the entrance to the next room.
Lawrence's group moves forward.
They reach the front of the next room.
"This should be a PIECE OF CAKE!"
Vivre says something super optimistic.
"Everyone's gotten CRAZY STRONGER! So, Demon King's traps or even the Demon King himself, we can beat 'em easy peasy!"
"I don't know about that,"
Luna, the healer, says with an annoyed tone.
The enemies have been seriously trying to kill the heroes so far.
If they get careless like Vivre, they'll trip and fall...
"O-okay, let's go into the next room~"
"Hey! WAIT UP!"
Vivre ignores Luna and steps inside.
...Right then, Vivre drops dead.
"Huh! WHAT HAPPENED?! Vivre!"
"No response... looks like just a corpse,"
Ulgar, the spear user, confirms──Vivre is totally dead.
Eli stares carefully around the whole room and spots the enemy's trap.
"The moment you step in, you get hit with an INSTANT DEATH curse."
"That's a PROBLEM! Eli! Get Vivre out of there!"
Eli, the gravity magician, carries Vivre outside the room.
"Luna, do the RESURRECTION!"
"No problem."
Luna taps Vivre's head with her staff.
"Ugh! Hah, hah... W-WHAT happened to me?"
Vivre nervously looks around.
Lawrence grins wide and answers,
"You DIED!"
"I DIED!?"
"But you came BACK TO LIFE!"
"Life's WAY TOO CHEAP!?"
For their evolved hero party, resurrection isn't that hard.
Especially for evolved Luna, if it's right after death, it's almost no-risk to bring someone back.
Of course, only if she still has magic left.
"Looks like the Demon King's room is past this cursed room."
Ulgar points deeper into the room with his spear tip.
"I'm gonna BLOW this whole room away!"
"Blowing up a WHOLE ROOM, that's crazy..."
"No," Ulgar shakes his head.
"You gotta save your strength. There is a WAY to break this curse."
Ulgar shoots a sharp look at the room.
"Curses need a CORE to activate. Instead of breaking the curse with Luna's uncurse magic, it's WAY BETTER to just smash that core."
The party members look blank, totally confused.
"W-what's that supposed to mean?"
"Ulgar... didn't you HATE studying?"
Mida points it out, and Ulgar gently runs his hand over his silver hair.
"Well, since the leader's a DUMB MUSCLEHEAD, I gotta be the brains as the sub-leader, right?"
The members looked impressed.
Ulgar used to only think about fighting and showing off.
But now he gets his role perfectly.
Fight up front, and back up the leader.
"Yeah! You're SOLID, Ulgar!"
"Mr. Ulgar, that's AMAZING growth!"
"Well, gotta thank the Guildmaster for that."
Eli compliments him, Luna gives a small laugh.
Act showed him the role he suits best, leading to this growth.
"Hey, let's give the Guildmaster a FAT BONUS after the victory party, yeah leader?"
There's no fear in his eyes.
Not a shred of doubt about winning.
Everyone believes in the future Act showed them.
"So, Mida, CRUSH the core."
"Got it."
Inside the room, an endless swamp of darkness spreads out.
Nobody knows where the core is hidden.
Still, Mida the archer doesn't panic one bit.
She's not just some helpless victim getting trampled like before.
She's one of the strong ones, sharpened by Act's talent hands.
In the darkness, following the curse's traces to shoot from afar is easy for her.
Mida draws her short bow and shoots.
Her magic arrow hits clean and soft, smashing the curse's core with just the right power.
Whoosh... the darkness pulls back.
"W-wow... finding the target in all that BLACK with no sight. No clue how far or which way!"
Vivre's wide-eyed in shock.
But Mida and everyone else?
Not surprised at all.
The party members trust each other's strengths.
If she says she can do it, then I believe her.
With Lawrence at the center, the team's circle that Act drew won't waver in the face of such a trivial challenge.
"Let's GO, everyone!"
Lawrence and his companions move forward.
Their eyes carry victory and the future.
