Volume 5 Chapter 18 The Cooperation of the Hero Party
Lawrence and his friends finally reached the Evil God Dostoevsky, who became the Demon King.
Now, the final battle is about to start.
"Alright! Here we go! Ulgar!"
"Leave it to me."
Ulgar raises his spear.
First, let's see what's what.
If it was the old Lawrence, he would've charged in without a second thought.
But they've grown now.
After many adventures, they've gained bonds and friends.
Lawrence's one-hit power is unmatched, but it leaves big openings.
Meanwhile, Ulgar's single-hit strength isn't the greatest, but he's fast and has lots of attacks.
"Ulgar, I'm countin' on ya!"
Healing mage Luna casts a holy barrier on Ulgar, while mage Eli applies a buff.
"Hero Party leading the charge! Ulgar, go all out!"
Ulgar darts at the Evil God at breakneck speed.
A strike faster than light.
He slips into the enemy's back in a flash, stabbing the heart's target.
He definitely felt it.
But in that moment... an attack came from outside his vision.
"Ulgar!"
Archer Mida fires countless arrows at super speed.
The arrows precisely hit what was aiming to attack Ulgar.
Seeing an opening, Ulgar pulls back once.
He's not the old him either.
The old him cared about glory above all.
Took reckless risks, pushed too hard, and was the first to die from it.
But that's not him anymore.
Now, he understands his role... as the vanguard, the front-liner.
He acts as a decoy, to gather info from the enemy.
Uses his speed and number of attacks to confuse and disrupt.
That's Ulgar's role... or so Act told him.
Ulgar falls back once and joins Lawrence's group.
"There was definitely a sense of achievement."
"It seems the enemy... has undergone some body modifications."
Eli concentrates magic into his eyes, casting Appraisal magic.
The Evil God still has a human shape, but looks grotesque.
Three faces, 3 pairs of arms.
Plus countless tentacles growing from his back.
The tentacle tip had a blade on it, swinging like a whip and moving super fast.
"There are 3 main hearts. Three necks. We gotta destroy all of them at once."
"Dodging that tentacle whip... man, that's pretty tricky."
Eli's words make Ulgar nod, eyes sharp.
The tentacles move so fast, normal eye can't follow them.
Since Lawrence's party is the vanguard, Lawrence and Ulgar can slip past them.
But with so many tentacles and multiple weak points, destroying all at once will be pretty tough.
"And, by the way, the enemy hasn't shown all its cards yet. Be careful."
"Got it!"
Ulgar and Lawrence draw weapons and step forward.
After nodding to each other, they split and dash ahead.
Ulgar is the first to get close.
"[Flame Spear]!!!! !"
In a flash, almost countless hits are hurled.
A lightning-fast strike leaving sound behind, like a beam of light.
It knocks away countless tentacles, opening up space.
"Ughhh!"
Lawrence swings his greatsword.
It turns into a golden torrent crashing into the space Ulgar made.
It cuts off the upper body of the Evil God.
But it quickly regenerates and attacks again.
Tentacles pierce Lawrence and Ulgar's hearts.
But at that moment, Mida shoots an arrow, and Eli teleports them away from the enemy using teleportation magic.
Luna instantly heals the two with Healing Magic.
"Hmm, the regeneration is pretty fast, huh?"
"Yeah! And it's tough! Pretty tough! I was planning to finish it with one hit!"
While tentacles attack Lawrence and Ulgar, Eli uses a barrier to block the enemy's strikes.
Mida fires arrows to distract and buy time.
"First, we gotta deal with those tentacles. Mida! Luna!"
"Understood!"
Ulgar leaps out alone.
Charging straight into the rain of tentacles pounding down.
Ulgar and Mida unleash countless attacks together.
The severed tentacles don't regenerate, however.
Luna cast a spell to slow the regeneration, coating her blade.
With its tentacles chopped off, the thing that guarded the Evil God vanished.
"Sunlight Sacred Heaven──OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
A concentrated burst of solar energy, a fierce strike from above.
Lawrence's incredible slash wipes out the Evil God completely.
There's nothing left... but.
"Dodge!"
Ulgar and Lawrence immediately move to safety.
The Evil God that should've been obliterated reappeared once more.
"Seems like even a single cell fragment left behind can regenerate from it."
"What a pain in the ass!"
There's no despairing over the enemy's strength.
They've grown not just physically, but mentally too, through their hardships.
"Everyone! This is gonna be a long fight! But don't give up! Remember what we're carrying on our backs!"
The enemy's hidden, troublesome truth.
It must have played a role in sapping the Heroes' morale.
But Lawrence encouraged his comrades at the moment they felt despair.
Always there to support his allies.
That's what being a leader means, as Act taught him.
They won't give up.
With strong minds and bodies, they fight evil.
It's because they're rough gems polished by Act that they can do this.
