Volume 5 Chapter 19 Dead End
Great Hero Lawrence and his buddies were locked in their final battle with the Demon King, Fyodor.
Lawrence and his crew, wielding extraordinary power.
They kept slamming the Demon King with attacks that split the sky and cracked the earth. ...But.
"HAHAHA! NO good! It's NOT WORKINGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!"
The Demon King laughed wildly. Even when Lawrence's slash blew off his right arm, he instantly regenerated it to show off.
Tentacles reached out to grab Lawrence. The archer Mida's precise shot destroyed the tentacles. Lawrence swung a powerful blow at the Demon King's torso.
Lawrence made his escape while the Demon King was regenerating.
But still...
"Unharmed...?"
"Some SERIOUS regenerative POWER, huh."
The spearman Ulgar and the healing mage Luna trembled. The enemy had a regeneration ability that matched Luna's rapid healing, surpassing it in brute force.
No matter how hard Lawrence and his crew attacked with inhuman strength, if the enemy just regenerated right after being destroyed, they couldn't take him down.
"Then...! We've GOTTA crush the ENEMY with one HIT! AAAUUGHH!"
Lawrence swung his greatsword with all his might. A golden slash blew the Demon King and his castle away to dust.
The magician Eli quickly cast a barrier and teleported them. Lawrence and the others arrived outside the castle.
"Did we DO it!?"
"No, NOT yet, ULGAR! The enemy's STILL alive!"
Lawrence shouted, staring at the ruins of the Demon King's castle. Through the dust, the Demon King stood up and laughed wildly.
"Useless, USELESS, useless...! You CAN'T kill ME!!!!"
Squish, countless tentacles shot out. Ulgar and Mida dealt with the oncoming flood of tentacles.
"What KIND of stupid MOVE is that! ELI!"
Eli unleashed massive magic in rapid succession. Fire and wind magic wiped out everything around them.
But the Demon King appeared through the smoke and charged at Eli.
"ELI!"
"Mr. ULGAR!?"
Ulgar shoves Eli aside. The Demon King's tentacles wrap around Ulgar, cutting off his arm.
"NUUUN!"
Lawrence swings his greatsword, blasting the Demon King away.
"Are you OKAY!? Heal NOW!"
Luna casts magic on Ulgar. But....
"!?! UGH, my ARM won't REGROW!!!"
Luna's healing is top-notch. She can fix any injury in an instant. But the severed arm just won't come back.
Eli uses appraisal magic to look at the wound.
"It's ADVANCED sorcery. There's a CURSE that breaks the ENEMY'S healing MAGIC."
"No WAY! Then..."
"We CAN'T heal until we BREAK the curse. But..."
The wave of tentacles comes crashing back in. Mida is handling it alone, but...
"ELI! Let's DO teleportation! We CAN'T hold OUT!"
Eli responds to Mida's request. They teleport to put some distance.
"While we BREAK the curse, the NEXT attack will COME..."
"No WAY..."
Ulgar tears cloth to block the wound.
"LUNA, healing can WAIT. We can DEAL with it LATER. We need to THINK of how to DEFEAT them NOW."
"But..."
"I'm FINE! This little INJURY won't slow me DOWN!"
...That can't be true. He must be feeling excruciating pain from the powerful curse. Right now, Ulgar is sweating bullets.
But. He smiles wide and glares at the enemy.
"What's the DEAL? A genius LIKE me can FIGHT with just ONE arm! In FACT, I'm lighter NOW and can move EVEN better!"
Ulgar turns into silver light and charges. While tearing through the Demon King's tentacles, he pierces the Demon King's heart.
"ULGAR! NUUUUN!"
Lawrence's strike decapitates the Demon King.
Crushed his brain and heart... But still, the tentacles keep moving, trying to kill them.
"Can we REALLY win against SOMETHING like this..."
Luna starts to feel weak. But....
"Don't GIVE up, Ms. LUNA!"
"ELI..."
Always the weak-hearted magician, Eli.
Banished by his friends, he could only lament his own powerlessness... Now, he stares forward more determined than anyone else.
"There's a REASON for his IMMORTALITY. Magic PATHWAYS are coming from his BODY."
"Magic PATHWAYS...?"
"Yes. SOMEONE is pouring POWER into him. And... it CONNECTS to the sky."
Eli points up. There, a full moon hung in the air.
"Up THERE...? But then HOW do we..."
"Don't WORRY, I can FEEL Mr. ACT'S presence from THERE too."
The presence of Act, their master. Eli pinpointed it by sensing magic.
...In other words.
"The GUILDMASTER is fighting TOO."
"Yes! So... we CAN'T give UP!"
Luna gathers her strength and stands up. Eli is right. If Act is fighting, then she can't just collapse.
"Let's DO our best, the CHANCE to win... will DEFINITELY come! For NOW, we endure!"
"You're RIGHT... that's TRUE!"
Luna invokes healing, while Eli unleashes magic. They support their exhausted comrades.
They will never give up. The Guildmaster will surely bring the chance to victory.
