Volume 5 Chapter 21 Trust and Growth
Frederica showed up in my fight against Transcendent.
"You IDIOT... I asked you to DEFEND the surface, didn't I? Why are you HERE?"
The silver-haired maid smiled, looking pleased.
"I'm GLAD."
"Glad about WHAT?"
"You didn't ORDER me to go HOME, did you?"
...I realized she was right.
"MASTER. I am your LOYAL servant. Your WISHES are my wishes. If you COMMAND me to leave, I will go RIGHT now."
"...Hmph. You're so headstrong."
"You're not SAYING I'm being UNNECESSARY, huh? HEHE♡"
Seriously, this woman is a hassle.
She translates my words however she wants.
...It's not all incorrect, which makes it worse.
"Oh. FREDERICA. It's been a WHILE."
"Oh, FORMER Master."
Originally, she was a guard under Amou.
I took her in when I finished training with Amou and left.
"Going AGAINST your master's ORDERS... you've really FALLEN from grace, haven't you?"
Amou's words were infuriating.
Frederica would have definitely obeyed her master's orders back then.
She smirked, looking relaxed.
"Sadly, I'm not a GUARD anymore. I went OUTSIDE, met SIR ACT... and changed."
She smiled at me.
"The YEARS I spent with my MASTER turned me from a guard into a woman."
"I SEE... so you were a RAW talent too. He POLISHED you."
"Yes... thanks to that, I found a reason to live. Now I can ENJOY living."
"So, I'm just UNNECESSARY for you now, HUH?"
Frederica turned her gaze to Amou.
"Not at ALL. I don't think you're UNNECESSARY. If it weren't for YOU, I wouldn't have met SIR ACT and changed. So, I'm grateful."
But then she continued.
"If you plan to get in SIR ACT'S way... I will use my power and ELIMINATE you."
She unsheathes the knife from her waist and takes A'stance*.
"I'll OVERCOME this, FORMER master."
"Is that SO... well, that's QUITE something."
Amou smiles.
It's not the unreadable smile he usually wears.
It's a smile that seems to be nurturing.
Like he's feeling joy at the sight of the woman in front of him growing strong...
A smile that hints at a fatherly affection.
For just a moment, Frederica falters.
But she hasn't lost her fighting spirit.
"Are you READY to fight?"
"If you COMMAND me, even if my LIMBS are torn APART."
"I SEE... then..."
I stand next to Frederica, clenching my fist.
"Help me, FREDERICA."
"Yes, my LORD."
