Volume 23 Chapter 11 Rescue Preparation Continued
With the 'Create Weapon' spell, he made 20 weapons. Al hesitated for a moment and shook his head. His neck was prickly from earlier, and he could feel his exhaustion nearing its limit.
He hadn't slept last night either, and had given everyone 'Night Sight' and fought fiercely against real enemies. If he isn't careful, his head might start to ache from spell overuse again.
"Sorry if this sounds bad, but we've collected quite a few enemy bodies, so could you take weapons from them for use? Using too many spells might give me a headache..."
"Ah, right, I was collecting bodies just now too. Sorry for the trouble. That's fine, of course."
The first group of ten Mage leaders, plus 2 guarding Cole and 2 driving, total 14 bodies. Al is putting them into his Magic Bag.
Some had both a bow and a sword, and others had different weapons. He's also probably carrying one or 2 spare daggers. It gets harder to work as they approach the cabin.
Al finds a clear spot on the ground to land, then explains how to use the button-shaped Magic Bag to Reginald, who cautiously takes out and lines up the bodies on the ground.
"Take the usable weapons and store them in the bag. After that, please also collect the bodies."
"Okay."
Reginald picks up the short spear from the body in front of him, tapping the edge of the button to store it in the Magic Bag, just as Al said. He quickly moves on to a waist sword, then a dagger.
"Can I leave other bags and such for later?"
"Yes, I've collected all suspicious stuff. I mainly planned to check belongings after rescuing Guildmaster Levy and escaping to a safe place."
As he said this, Al turns the sleeve of the Mage leader's shirt inside out.
The 'Detect Magic' spell shows no reaction, yet the faint glow of 'Magic Sense' bounces off the cuff of his sleeve, revealing the familiar button-type Magic Bag.
Glancing at Reginald and his female subordinate, they seem to have enough time to continue collecting weapons and check the contents.
I just said we'd inspect the belongings later, but this man's items might be worth a look.
Inside the man's Magic Bag, there were 2 chests, 2 carriages, and 4 dead horses. It seems the missing carriage was stored here.
The horses might have died after being stored. What a shame. No space to pull out a carriage, so let's leave that for later. Let's take out one of the chests.
Inside, there appears to be a neatly categorized scroll of parchment and a sack bulging with coins.
Unrolling one of the scrolls to read it, it looks like a letter. Addressed to Grand Mage Whitton, and the sender appears to be MageVeil.
Speaking of Veil, I distinctly remember him tracking Patricia. He claimed to be a Grand Mage then, but perhaps I was mistaken.
Whitton must be the name of the man lying dead before us.
Skimming the contents, there are a lot of 'this' and 'that', 'the plan', and it's hard to make sense of it all within his knowledge. At the end, it adds to pay close attention to the blonde brat.
It also says that if he's taken down, the operation is as good as a success.
...The blonde brat – it feels like they're talking about him. Is he considered such a threat?
For now, it's clear that this Mage might be an important person named Whitton. If he's that important, there might be plans to impersonate him and deceive others in the future.
With that in mind, he'll take some hair. No time to strip the clothes, but he should at least note what he was wearing.
"What's wrong?"
"I'm sorry. I noticed this person also has a Magic Bag, and I got curious and started investigating. I'm not sure, but this person might be a Grand Mage named Whitton."
Saying that, they show the letter they'd been reading to Reginald. He quickly reads through it, muttering "Hmm, I see," while nodding a few times and handing it back to Al.
"This seems like something Viscount Parker should take a look at. Who's the blonde kid? They seem to be treated as a really important figure..."
"It might be me. It's not like I've done anything to make them target me like this..."
Though, he can't deny that might be the case.
"Haha, I get it. Well, with all you've done, I can see why. I made sure to secure some weapons. With a dagger or something, that should be enough. There was someone with lock-picking tools, so I grabbed those too. Can I take this corpse with me?"
"Yes. Let's go."
Al takes the chest and puts it back into the Magic Bag Whitton had been carrying. Further investigation will have to wait.
Reginald, seeing Al nod, places the body that seemed to belong to Whitton into the Magic Bag Al had taken from him.
