Volume 2 Chapter 17 [Alliance SIDE] The Blind Spot of Being Able to 'Effectively' Exercise the Strongest Power

"Damn it! There's no way I'll forgive those bastards! I'm a head honcho here! A man with countless achievements! And they dared to defy me!"

 Cedal Alliance Headquarters.

Inside the top executive office, Pastor was raging uncontrollably.

After all, everything they had worked toward to govern the world through Adventurers had gone up in smoke.

Given Pastor's short fuse, this fury was only natural.

"S-Sir Pastor, what should I do..."

"Tch. You, who were banished from the Worldsworn, are worthless. But unloading that scene in the middle of a rally? I can't rely on anyone else in this damn town anymore. For now, I'm letting you keep your head... but screw up again, and you'll see what happens. Got it?"

 "Y-Yes! I'm truly sorry!"

 Cedal bowed his head low.

"It's probably impossible now to get the Court Adventurers recognized... no, there's still a chance. Some of the Adventurers I'm involved with in the Diamante Kingdom should be pushing the Court Adventurers agenda. We're moving to the kingdom."

 "Y-Yes, sir!"

"I won't forgive a single one who insulted me. I'm an administrator. I'm on the side that controls things. And yet, some unworthy managed men on the controlled side got cocky?"

 Anger began to boil up.

 Its source: Ivan and Ellie.

"I'm a capable man! I'm a damn capable man! Damn it! That hero's got way too big a head. I'll make them regret it. No matter what!"

Just as he screamed that out, the door burst open with force.

"Sir Pastor! A document from the Association headquarters!"

"What?! How far do you think this place is? ...A magic tool for communication, huh."

There is a magic tool capable of teleporting people.

With enough effort, sending written documents became possible with decent frequency.

Pastor took the paper and read its contents...

"Huh? W-what? I'm... being transferred? And to... menial work at the Gendel Kingdom branch..."

 "No way..."

 Even Cedal looked surprised.

"Gendel Kingdom... a country on the brink of the Demon Lord's invasion. They're just a farming nation, barely self-sufficient. Population? Maybe a hundred thousand."

"And they're transferring *me* there?! What the hell is the reason...?!"

As if things couldn't get worse, the Pastor's face twisted in horror.

"If I refuse the transfer... the Luster Report says I 'quit being an Adventurer'... No way. That's impossible! Quit being an Adventurer?! I... I can't!"

This was a shocking bargaining chip for the Pastor.

But... in a way, it made perfect sense.

Rangella got her citizenship and nationality to get into the 'Great Mine of Gold World (Kinsekai)'.

It didn't matter if she was an Adventurer or not.

With 'nationality' and 'citizenship', she could do whatever she wanted, even if she was a former Adventurer.

They had plenty of money, and could buy 'any old item' from merchants.

They only became Adventurers to make it easier to defeat the Demon Lord.

They had no reason to cling to the Adventurer title.

That's why even 'abandoning the Adventurer title' was easy for them.

"So they're just throwing me away for this?! Don't screw with me! I won't accept this!"

The Pastor had said many times that he was on the 'management side'.

For him, being told to 'do chores in a small country' was the ultimate humiliation.

Ellie knew that, which was why it was a 'transfer', not a 'dismissal'.

"I'll go into hiding for now. I'll never obey those words! I'm on the management side!"

 The Pastor was smart.

And because of that, he understood something.

"Damn it, that Hero... so they've even seized the Adventurers Association's 'personnel power'. Such a powerful bargaining chip... Why didn't they use it until now? Why now?! Dammit!"

...Power was a sharp, cutting word.

The real power lies in 'who decides to grant that authority.' The one who controls personnel decisions holds, in effect, the strongest power of all.

 And the Adventurers' Association?

They simply can't afford to let the Hero go.

They've been boasting all along that with the Demon Lord defeated by Adventurers, now is the Adventurers' era.

So if the Hero turns away now, who knows what kind of backlash they'd face?

That's exactly why they can't let the Hero slip through their fingers.

"This insult... I'll make sure you pay back tenfold. Just you wait!"

 Pastor seethed with rage.

"Now, now, let's all calm down, shall we?"

A voice reached out to him.
